I shudder to think about where all the money is actually going - every time you buy something that is made in China...

Don't know how long it's going to take before people realize that they are literally buying the machines that will destroy them

Meh. If everyone fretted about where every product they bought came from, no one would ever buy anything.
A lot of those fruits and vegetables at your grocery store probably come from South America. All of those spices in your spice cabinet.

Hell even finished products that claim to be made in the USA only need to be made of about half US products to make that claim.

Visual Howlaround Title Sequence: Every time I buy gasoline I am finding Middle eastern Dictators.

Every time I buy from Amazon I am lining Bezos's pockets.

So what.

/ I don't buy gasoline

Not directly, but if you ever pay for a bus ticket, you are doing that by proxy.

My mom's cousins opened up their own oil and vinegar shop some years back. Actually I don't think I've ever tried any. Maybe I'll order some.

If you really want to get pedantic about it....That's true of pretty much every product, really. If it needs to be shipped, those costs, which include fuel, are passed on.

Mister Buttons: Olive oil has always been sketchy, Italian mafia has had that locked down for a while now.

Was going to say. Apparently olive oil brings in a huge amount for them, almost if not as much as all their other illicit activities combined. And wasn't there a mafioso nicknamed the Olive Oil King or something? I think I read that somewhere.

And yet ANOTHER Daily Beast "members only" article.

Fark used to not allow shiat like this. Now, they've removed that policy and we get shiat like this. Fark you, subby.

Lots of olive oil in california. A lot of wineries are pressing olives and infusing them with all kinds of stuff.

Eh, you're just supporting child/slave labor in Africa if you're using/driving any sort of electric vehicle.

I'm buying mine from the Middle East - Palestinian Territories, etc. By the 3.5l jug.

Why pay insane premium prices for a tiny bit of oil in the stupermarkets?

halifaxdatageek: One thing I've learned is that it's actually impossible to verify whether you're spending ethically or not.

Even if you donate all your money to charity, what if that charity asked its employees to stay late one time? What if they have a boss that made a callous comment about an employee's weight at the holiday party? You're enabling that now.

Do your best, and don't worry about things you can't possibly know.

Wasn't that a plot device in "the Good Place?"
