What's with the cheesy poses for the player photos before switching to a normal pose when they announce the teams?

So, Blades and Hammers....

At least all the remaining matches are on Sky today, no more trying to bounce around to find things.  It's still too early to be channel surfing

(gets up, checks the Fulham-Everton score) Ok, I predicted an Everton win, but I was thinking 1-2, not 2-3. Sounds like I missed quite the fun game. But at least I have only failed to predict one winner so far this weekend (dammit, Villa!).

Are the Blades and the Hammers trying to put us all to sleep?

Yeah. Was a bit of a gamble to put this one on not long after Sunday lunch

The bottom 4 teams are sitting on 1, 2, 3, 4 points.

Probably a first.

They should have put Leeds-Arsenal in this spot, and moved this one into that spot (no way were they gonna put the Liverpool-Leicester match on any earlier than where it is).

The wild thing for me is how much Sheffield's and Aston Villa's fortunes have changed since the Blades were robbed of a win against Villa last season. Sheffield collapsed and missed out on European qualification while Villa survived because of that result.

Now Villa is a point away from the European places while the Blades are dead last.

I think even the ref in the Blades-Hammers match has been lulled to sleep.

At least this season there is an actual battle for the top of the table, and it does not involve either team from Manchester (and, somehow, Southampton is figuring into the mix, of all teams)..

Hams of the West take the lead.
0-1

It'd be a stunning feat if Southampton won it all. It'd be their first top division title ever.

Considering they used to be Liverpool's "junior team" (with all the players we've gotten from them), I wouldn't be against that insanity happening if we can't get the title again.

Given the way this insane year has played out, a Southampton Premiership isn't out of the bounds of reality (but I still want my Spurs to pull it off, just so they can laugh at a certain other team).

The only reason I can't be on board with a Spurs title is Jose. If anyone other than him was the gaffer, I'd be fine with it.

I was holding my nose when I posted that, because yeah, JoMo, but if it means my Spurs get the Premiership, I'll hold my nose and deal with it, while waiting for his inevitable ego-inspired ranting that causes him to quit/be fired when he doesn't get his way.

Same. I would okay with Spurs not being Spursy if it didn't mean more trophies for JoMo

I kind of warmed a bit to Moanino after the All Or Nothing docco.
But I suspect Levy had that made as he knew it was an unpopular appointment & wanted to get the fans onside & behind him.
Generally I thought he came across as an alright bloke. Bit of a knob at times, but that happens to the best of us I'm sure.
What really stood out for me was the persona he had when the press weren't all over hime vs the one where they were.

I think Sheffield United are doomed to be relegated. Nothing about them impresses me this season.

I'm actually annoyed that the sportsbook I play on doesn't have relegation odds because I'd like to see the odds on them getting dropped.

I would have as well. It seems they are cursed to be good enough to get promoted out of the League Championship, but forever doomed to get themselves dumped back down the next season.

He's been more bearable since he was hit with back-to-back sackings. He hasn't really tried to be a locker room cancer since Chelsea sacked him, while United showed him that he's not infallible.

Peak toxic Jose is thankfully off in the distance.

/if you think he's bad now, he was *much* worse in Spain

Speaking of managers, I wonder if the Ancelotti Effect is wearing off at Everton. I forget which analyst said it, but they're pretty much right: Ancelotti's best quality is smoothing over a fractious locker room and getting them to be harmonious again. Then he starts to wane, partly because of his aversity to using substitutions.

There's a reason why he's not managed a team for longer than 2 seasons since he left AC Milan.

The ownership seems content to keep collecting those parachute payments when they drop back down while selling off players who get them promoted or loaning them out, all while not spending any money to keep themselves up in the EPL and spending just enough to get players who can get them promoted long enough to sell off/loan out said players.
