That was my thought, she actually watched someone close to her die of the disease and yet with the incidence of community spread being about 300% of what it was in the Spring she invited a non family member into her home without either of them wearing a mask. Some people only learn the REALLY hard way.

She previously had COVID too, and recovered. Since the latest research is that antibodies for COVID actually last a long time, she can't get it from him, and he can't get it from her.

Being that I missed this story when it happened, I guess instead of worrying about the lack of masks and social distancing, I"m going to focus on the awesomeness of what brought these folks together.

My guess is they all got tested in order to do the story and she already had it.  Heck he is young and could have had it also and didn't know about it.

Brief post-Thanksgiving turkey story. My co-worker/friend, Lance, gave me a turkey a couple of days after Thanksgiving. I invited a few friends over to eat it with my husband and me. We made the turkey, they brought the sides. I texted Lance to stop by if he was interested. I knew he was always busy, but to maybe stop by for a few minutes. ... The bell rung. I opened the door, and I immediately realized I invited the wrong Lance. The wrong Lance was also a vegetarian. In my text, all I did was talk about the turkey. He just went along with it. None of my guests knew I invited the wrong Lance until he left and I told them and we all went into hysterics. He was actually the nicer of the two Lances. We've called the dinner the Wrong Lance, though it was really the Right Lance.

AIUI, there was testing & quarantining so they could still have this dinner; having lost her husband, I'm sure she appreciated all the effort expended by her family & friends to keep her form being alone this year. The young man & his SO have been a part of the extended family for a few years now, according to in-laws of Grandma.
Men & women can be platonic friends. Black men can spend time w/ white women w/o lusting after them. Older women can spend time w/ much younger men w/o lusting after them. I know stereotypes are a heckuva timesaver, but some of these comments are staggering in their ugliness. Grow the fark up & stop trying to prove your coolness to people on the internet.

It's the holiday miracle of the human immune system!COVID mutates very slowly.  Once you've fought it off once, your immune system remembers how to make those antibodies again.

He died in April.  It's quite possible, given how contagious it is, that she might well have had it too.  If she didn't, anybody who didn't have it for that matter, should be avoiding it like everyone else, but actually people who have had it are much, much less likely to get it again, and therefore much less likely to spread it.  I've got a home health aid who got it.  I ended up having to quarantine (but didn't get it).  She is probably much less likely to get it again.
