Considering Walking Dead has been on for a century, it has 2 spin offs and who knows how many other spin offs planned, is anyone at all surprised HBO is cashing in on the zombie/apocalyptic/survivalists wet dream genre? No GOT so they need a new a cow, cuz those repeat of 1990 movies not gonna cut it.

At first I thought that said an "Among Us" adaptation.

Great idea. Let's distill 40+ hours of 2 of the most cinematic games in history, into a show that loses all sense of player agency, all while trying to match the superb art/sound/voice acting.

But hey we can relive all the JoEl DiD tHe RiGhT tHiNg and AbBy SuCks posts again.

The stupid tag? Really? For one of the best video game stories of all time being adapted by the writer of "Chernobyl"? On a network that frequently gives us some of the best shows on television? Ok, subby...

This will be awesome.

I think that's a worse idea, to be honest. ME being an RPG, means that even if you stayed true to the original plot a good chunk of the fanbase wouldn't be able to handle that 'their' version of events wasn't the one to get adapted.

So you don't stick to the plot, and make a new story set in the same universe.

Easy.

No, we ended up with Mass Effect Andromeda because the B-Team dicked around for 3 years then rushed the game together in 2.

All I read makes me think it will probably be a great mini/one-off series.

I gave that game a shot when i got it free from Epic. I failed terribly and felt terrible. What a mess. Does that make the game bad? No. But in 2020 that was the last thing I need. It's a very good game ... but ... wow, I just need to wake up every day to such misery in reality.

/ I do not need a reality simulator ( note: make a game called "Reality Simulator", make tens of dollars. )

You're talking to a guy who has voluntarily watched Coyote Ugly more than once, who has Gemma Arterton in his top three, likes zombie movies, and still turned that thing off.

I know, asking for tactical realism in a zombie movie is being slightly anal retentive so I was largely able to put that aside. Some of the stuff though? It is like they popped into a random Call of Duty game and asked for advisors on how weapons are used and how to move. I can't abide some things, they take me right out of what I'm watching.

Only way to do it is a new story, set in a different time.

I was thinking about what period would be interesting for a TV series, and I keep coming back to 'Be better as an RPG'.

I talk shiat, but ME2 is pretty close to my favorite game ever. Hence why I was a bit pissed at Andromeda, and why I don't really want a TV series or movie.

I got it free with my PS4.......the game just felt like watching a movie, but you had to press a button to make the characters walk forward. And it was just so uninteresting to me. Maybe I had just played a bunch of other similar games that either featured zombies, or were just "awesome visuals but you're just going to walk forward and we'll call it a game" AAA things.......I just couldn't get into it.

God knows there are enough zombie movies out there where it turns out that humans were the real monsters.

Or violent stories where the moral of the story is that violence is bad.

Or character studies of single parents with a child growing up or some variation of that.

Do skyrim. Just 400 hours of some guy crouching around in a fur loincloth stabbing people in the back with a knife and shooting them with arrows. He never sleeps or eats, carries 2500 arrows in the biggest quiver ever, and is 8 ft tall and invisible to everyone.

Dolph Lundgren can play lead.

Admittedly it does hit on a lot of cliches and tropes (character sacrifices themselves for others, apocalyptic logs detailing someone's last days, the group that seems welcoming but ends up being cannibals, etc), but it does them well. To me the main appeal of the game/storyline has always been the characters and their relationships with each other, which is what the game really excels at IMO.

I would say it is comparing apples to oranges.

I played the first Last of Us, made it about halfway through and got bored with it. After watching videos on the ending, I'm glad I didn't bother finishing.

Heard the hubbub over Part 2, watched some videos, and yeah, I'm glad I didn't pick it up. I play games to have fun, not become even more depressed than usual. If I want that suckerpunch, I'll go to a more effective game like Spec Ops: The Line.

This, that, and the other.

At this point, zombies are like Nazis: nameless/faceless cannon fodder for the characters to kill their way through while arguing with each other about the dynamics of the group. Add in a dash of Lone Wolf And Cub to up the emotional danger and you've got yourself a by-the-numbers zombie story.

Yeah, adapting an RPG would be problematic. Sure there are some things you can adapt, but for ones where even the gender of the main protagonist is a choice, you'd lose a bunch of people complaining just for that. Unending complaints about SJWism/anti-whateverism.

If the show screwed over Wrex I'd just stop watching

That would just make the Virmire choice that much easier for the writers.

Okay, I was blown away by the game four years ago when I played it, mostly because of the writing, which was an improvement on 90% of the films and shows of the time. I wasn't aware of the (obvious) similarities to M R Carey's books at the time, and Fungal zombies were a fresh take.
Loved the gameplay and the graphics, and it is still my favourite from the period along with Alien Isolation. If done right it could be a masterpiece.
The Girl with all The Gifts was a very good film btw.

I think people would just love to see that universe, think of how out of left field almost every comic adaptation is, game of thrones had to make choices,

The origin stories of Shepard and the crew would make for a good first season itself, I would rather be disappointed with a story that has some sort of conclusion

I could just do without another dark bleak plodding death March of a show.

The cinematic beauty of the expanse the variety of farscape and a bablon five with Stargate, and a story that is already well outlined
