g.fro: You think the guys making IEDs in Iraq were geniuses?

Compared to Trumpers, yes.  However, it is a dumb comparison for many reasons.  Look at the profiles of right-wing nut jobs who have went on a shooting sprees.  Using a firearm was an enabling factor.

Do you think Gabby Gifford's shooter had that capacity to build an IED and effectively had used it in an attack?  He probably would have been arrested for public masturbation had he been delayed one more day from purchasing a firearm.

Because we're talking about the guys who actually made them, we're only talking about the survivors.

What's your point? That having a weapon is an enabling factor to conducting an attack? That's the whole point of a weapon. If one were to somehow eliminate one kind of weapon, that doesn't mean anyone who has the motivation to attack someone is going to drop their plans and learn to play the guitar; they will find a different weapon. The only reason IEDs came up is because people seem to think they are super-hard to make and require advanced engineering degrees. I can tell you from personal experience that the people making and using IEDs in Iraq were not any smarter than your average Trump voter.

Parroting that dumbass argument only proves a lack of thinking abilities. It's pathetic that dimwits accept it as received truth.

/ I guess if they could do better, they wouldn't be dimwits

The one saying a bunch of words with no meaning accusing someone of "parroting"? That's funny.

Putting forth the argument that inanimate objects are the source of violent motivation proves a pretty marked lack of thinking abilities.
-
That some people have motivations to attack others and find the most relevant tools at hand to do so is pretty well accepted.
The idea that the mere existence of a type of weapon is the causal origin of those violent urges, and a lack of that specific tool would eliminate that violent urge from occurring is a pretty novel reading of reality that would require some pretty extraordinary evidence. Which you don't have. So who is the Derper?

How did attributing the properties of the Loc-Nar to every weapon get to be a thing in the first place?

I'm saying the weapon ownership/possession itself is a motivating factor.  Inanimate targets get boring after a while.

If one were to somehow eliminate one kind of weapon, that doesn't mean anyone who has the motivation to attack someone is going to drop their plans and learn to play the guitar;

They cure polio but people kept on dying of cancer and heart disease, so why did they bother?

You mean to say the average Trump supporter who is motivated to violence over insane crazy conspiracy theories.  These are stupid dumbf$cks of the highest order.  They would get caught looking up instructions on how to do it.  That's how the FBI caught those chuklef$cks planning to abduct the Michigan Governor.  Anyways these f$ckers wanted to use their toys (the toys they had), that was part of their soldier role-playing, cosplay fantasy.  They were not fantasizing about kablowee they wanted the PEW PEW PEW.

If you really think that owning a weapon causes violence or violent tendencies because "inanimate targets get boring", you are either an insane person or fantastically stupid. Either way there is no point continuing to talk with you. But, because I am a masochist (or very bored), I will take the time to point out that inanimate targets do not, in fact, get boring. If they do, you are either shooting targets that are too big, or too close. You may not know this, but there are actually several Olympic sports which involve shooting, and those Olympians spend quite a bit of time practicing. As far as I know, none of them has ever murdered anyone out of boredom.

The rest of your ramblings are hardly worth noticing. You seem to be one of the people I mentioned earlier who think improvised weapons, including IEDs, are somehow really hard to make and use. I have said they are not and that even someone as stupid as the average Trump voter can do so. You have said nothing to prove otherwise. I am speaking from personal experience. You are just saying words.

That's not what I said.  I'm saying if you are violent person with violent tendencies, soldier cosplay could eventually provide the motivation your need to take things further.  Literacy is fundamental.

Either way there is no point continuing to talk with you.

And yet here we are.  However, I will abide and give you the last word if you want it.

But, because I am a masochist (or very bored), I will take the time to point out that inanimate targets do not, in fact, get boring. If you are the type of person inclined to perform a violent act, the fantasy of being a militia soldier can lead you in that direction.  I'm not saying you are one of these nuts.   However, just because a person is sane most of their lives, is not a lifetime guarantee.

The rest of your ramblings are hardly worth noticing. You seem to be one of the people I mentioned earlier who think improvised weapons, including IEDs, are somehow really hard to make and use.

They are somewhat more challenging than a gun for incredibly stupid/insane people like the ones that go on shooting sprees.  For the typical person unlikely to ever want to make one, they are not that complicated to make.  As I said, the pathology of these killers are different.  Some of these nut jobs fantasize about burning stuff down, others want to blow shiat up and then there are ones who want to use the toys they already own and/or are use to playing with.

I have said they are not and that even someone as stupid as the average Trump voter can do so. You have said nothing to prove otherwise. I am speaking from personal experience. You are just saying words.

Typing them actually - kind of the point of Fark.

I have him pegged as one of those intolerant pseudo-liberals that treats anyone who disagrees with them as subhuman, but also takes great  offense when anyone calls out their intolerance. Likely by calling them intolerant.
Hell, he uses unintelligent arguments to call people unintelligent, and ignorant positions to call people ignorant, so they are definitely consistent at least.
