Not an entry, just a question.

What is that external red board?  The PC's motherboard (green) is clearly visible.

How would it even mount in that chasis?  It's far too wide to mount sideways.  It looks like it is connected with a 34 pin ribbon cable as was used for legacy floppy disk drives.

Is it some staged shot where they connected two motherboards using a ribbon cable just for effect?

That appears to be another motherboard, just facing down. You can see the soldered connections for the DIMM slots on the left, the two PCI slots on the right and parallel to them and just above is the PCIe.

Color isn't important - many retail motherboard manufacturers use different colors to make them stand out, since most "performance" PCs have windows and lights inside.

I'm guessing this is a stock image and someone just threw a bunch of PC components in the shot and told the guy to look nerdy. I would never keep a motherboard in my way like that when working on a computer.

I agree, just wanted confirmation that it was not some interesting thing that I had never seen before.

Thanks!

I agree, I just wanted confirmation that it was not some ... Dual Board-ATX thing that I had never seen before.

Thanks!

So nerdy they gave him frames with no lenses.

As someone who has worked on several of those models, this is by far the most true-to-life. The only thing wrong is the dust bunny is at least half scale.

I've seen a few dual-mobo cases. They are very expensive and rare, but they did exist before Ryzen made them pretty much obsolete.

But yea, it's just a stock image. The IDE cable is probably plugged in to the right socket just as well as the correct procedure for installing a 5V rail to a floppy drive uses a screwdriver. Which is to say "nobody does that because it's dumb"

I used to clean out my neighbor's computer once a year after it stopped working from dog hair.....yikes!
