Stay the fark home and make Gorillaz videos. Don't be an asshole!

Artists hellbent on reopening during the pandemic don't deserve copyright protections.

you're free to perform, you just can't have an in-person audience

Ironic that the dude known for playing in a virtual band is complaining about not playing live.

At least it's not yet another article about a Gallagher having an opinion.

Is this one of those "rock stars" who needs to hear the screams of his fans in order to feel validated?

But hold on..

I went to a winery last night. It's open at 50% capacity. But a guy with a guitar can't sit on the stage and play.

But they had the radio on...

Same with wineries with outdoor tasting rooms. They can have a speaker with music, but a band can't play.

I'm not taking about 40,000 people concerts. I'm talking about local musicians earning a living providing ambience.

Seems to me if creative people have a need to perform they should apply some of their vaunted creativity to finding a way to do it safely.

Or are they just not that creative after all?

Artists need their audiences.  Like street mimes.  Won't someone think of the street mimes?!  I think they should be allowed to gather crowds around them while they work. so everyone in the audience can cough on them.

His comments are actually reasonable. If measures can be taken to prevent disease spread such as virtual performances, sanitized spaces with stringent social distancing and masking enforced Andy an outside venue, and/or some combination of all, some live events might be possible. I didn't take it as holding Coachella or Bonaroo, but giving up and coming musicians to ply their art.

Also, Damon Albarn is best known as the front man for Gorillaz? What the...?

Yeah it doesn't seem like too many Farkers actually read TFA.

It's the same message as this ad for a guy who is taking COVID seriously....

He's half right.  The live music industry is currently farked. The cure for that is not to have more packed theaters. That only gives you dead audience members. The cure is to find the farking cure for COVID as fast as farking possible.

Sure. But the real truth is, 99% of working musicians don't play packed theaters. They are buskers or they play weekend gigs at bars, restaurants, wineries, casinos, etc and earn a hundred or so a night.

These are regular people trying to make ends meet.

Albarn is also concerned about techs and road personnel and venue owners.

I get it.

Agreed. Public health must be first, but it's really, really shiatty of us to make some people pay for that and not others.

Not any more than they gather around a guy with an acoustic guitar on a stool.
