He would only be 70?  It's sad to think of what he could have done in the past couple of decades.  I imagine he could have moved on to some great dramatic work, too.

Why can't the "I Am ..." documentary folks do one on John?

I would say Plants Trains was a dark comic drama.

We were watching Uncle Buck with my kids earlier this week and I was shocked to realize that Candy at the time was only 39 years old. I am older than that now!

One of the best films, and his best performance. The man had tremendous heart and soul.

He deserved an Academy Award for that scene.

CSB time...
I grew up in the Eglinton-Lawrence part of Toronto in the 70s. Martin Short and Eugene Levy rented a house across the street. It was ground central for all of the Godspell cast that later became the core cast of SCTV. John Candy was a fixture and would
spend time entertaining the kids in the neighbourhood. He was such a kind person.

Not a fully dramatic role, but his one scene in JFK as crooked Southern beatnik lawyer Dean Andrews is mesmerizing and I would've loved to see his character get a full movie.

I grew up about 10 blocks from where John grew up.  I went to the public high school, East York (Go Goliaths!!) while he went to the Catholic Neil McNeil.....John and I never were friends but we 'knew each other to nod to' at various teen house parties in the '60's.  Even at 15, 16 John would have a roomful of us falling on the floor laughing as he did schtick....  Always a smile and a nod.  A truly nice guy.  Deserves the honour completely....
