I've been a Tigers fan for 40+ years (since I started paying attention to baseball).  I'm heavily wavering in my fandom today.

I'm not surprised he got hired again, but I'm disappointed it was this soon

If Hinch isn't banned, they might as well to let Pete Rose back in.

It's been just over 40 years for me too.  I'm sure I'll remain a fan but this is disappointing to say the least.  Can anyone imagine Sparky Anderson participating in something like that?  Or a single member of the team he took to the Series?

There were all these respected coaches out there, some of whom they interviewed, who come without baggage and ought to have a chance at the head job somewhere.  Some of them with long ties to the organization.  The LaRussa hiring actually makes more sense.

I'm fine with Hinch getting back into the game.  But after a year?  Go be a bench coach somewhere and show some contrition.

Don't worry.  All the cheating in the world won't drag these Tigers out of last place for at least a few years.

Yeah, I'd be surprised to find any Tigers fans that are happy about this - but I understand the logic - cheating aside, getting the Astros deep into the playoffs is still a big deal. If he crashes and burns, they can kick him to the curb in the next year and nobody in the MLB will touch him as a manager ever again.

The bigger question is who else was available? It's been a while since the Tigers had a manager who could get the job done. The MLB Front Office made Hinch available, it could be the Tigers organization just made the choice while holding their noses; if he can do his job without the cheating...

From what I read they conducted 12 interviews, including Hinch.  He was apparently the only one who's managed at the major league level.  They might loosen the purse strings next year but it'll be a couple years before they contend again.

Don Kelly, Will Venable, and Sal Fasano were all interviewed.  All respected names, all baggage free.

I was likely conceived when the tigers were 35-5 in 84. Tigers are by far my favorite sports team even though I watch more Lions. I will let Hinch have it for the game I go to in the spring if they allow fans.

Aside from the Red Sox, Cubs and Yankees, the Tigers are one of the most historically recognizable franchises in the MLB. I am seriously conflicted on the hire.

Here's the thing.  It's a catch-22...   If we continue to suck, "he couldn't manage without cheating."  If we improve, "what's he doing to cheat this time?"

I bet Kirk Gibson would have.   I remember during a broadcast years ago he repeated the popular phrase "If you ain't cheating you ain't trying".

Tigers appear to be loaded with young pitching and have a couple potential stars with the bats in the minors.  They are probably a year away from starting to sign big-name free agents to make them serious contenders.  I'd think they should be in the upper half of the division by 2022.
