This pisses me off because Giancarlo Esposito needs to be finishing Better Call Saul instead of playing some lightsabre wielding dweeb.

I guess we're doing two threads for Mando, so I'll just post what I did in the other since I guess this one is supposed to be the discussion thread:
I liked it.  The callback to A New Hope by having the Krayt Dragon was neat.

My only complaint is that I always liked that Boba Fett died in the Sarlaac.  The greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy and the most popular character for fans and he went out like a complete chump.  I always enjoyed that.

How on earth did they convince Ahmed Best to return as Jar Jar?

Love it., loved it, loved it! Not posting any details, I'll wait until everyone catches up. The final scene was fun, and expected. I've always been a Trek girl, but this show has me hooked.

When he turned around and it looked like Boba was standing there I flipped.

Then I felt a bit let down that it wasn't Boba, but I rationalized it since "Hey, he WAS eaten..."

Then killing the dragon was cool.

Then seeing Boba at the end I flipped out again!

What a roller coaster!

I know, and it's a trend I really dislike in modern Star Wars.  It's like they've been trying to erase any stakes of the previous movies over the course of the last 20 years.

Or more likely it is no-talent hacks being in charge of the storylines.

Why spend time developing new villains when you can just put somebody in a costume.

Not sure how much it counts (I don't know if Disney handles these pages personally or if a rando threw it in there), but it is listed as an "official appearance" on the wiki page for Anakin's pod racer

If it's a Wiki, I doubt it's Disney doing it directly.  As far as "official", it's possible, but I'd need some confirmation beyond a user-edited Wiki.

Either way, it's a nice easter egg and shoutout.

Pretty good episode.  I didn't like the very end.  Boba Fett was a punk, and should have stayed dead.

I find the character represents everything that has gone wrong with the series and star wars fandom in general over the last 30 years...

I'm kinda excited for it. Fett was essentially a heretic, never an actual Mandalorian. They could develop him into a good antagonist, seeking to destroy the society that never accepted him. Most people have accepted he survived the Sarlacc (and the show gives a good reason if the Krayt dragon killed the Sarlacc and provided a way for Boba to escape). Tales From the Bounty Hunters was my favorite SW novel so I've always accepted his surivval.

Is that actually true in the current canon though?  I can never remember what old-canon stuff got reintroduced later on into active canon.

Yes, Clone Wars TV show confirmed (which was one of the few, if not only, shows to be kept in canon).

While Jango and Boba wore Mandalorian armor, they were not actual Mandalorians.

Okay, good to know.  I could never keep track.

I am curious if they address in The Mandalorian why the rule about never removing helmets seemed to be completely ignored in the animated series.

Apparently Katee Sackhoff will be playing the live action version of Bo-Katan Kryze, a Mandalorian character she voiced in Rebels. Could just be a flashback to her death or something, as she was the last known person to have the darksaber that Gideon is using. If she's alive, though, that'd be a good opportunity to address the issue.

There's also speculation about Sabine Wren showing up. She'd be more likely to be alive in the present, but her showing up is just rumor and guessing at this point.

That really is kind of the show in a nutshell? It is really pretty simple, like an 80s action show, just with an enormous budget.

Fett was brought back in Tales of the Bounty Hunter (1996)
The clone(s) Emperor were in Dark Empire (1991)

These are not new ideas. Dark Empire handled the clone thing way better, also a world destroying fleet better. So cool idea. The RoS, handled it all poorly, so stupid idea. I havent seen the season opener of Mando, so opinion is still out on Fett.

Temuera Morrison is apparently a top-notch guy, too. I've heard stories from LucasArts alums that he was always super excited to come in and do voice work for the games at the time, and that he has always had a lot of fun being associated with the part.

I never considered the novels to be particularly high quality. As they went on, it just became more and more fan service. It was like every farking story in the galaxy centered around half a dozen people.

Tales of the Bounty Hunters was a decent read, but the bulk of the old canon was pretty bad.
