Today's fun fact:  John Carradine played Herman Munster's boss, Mr. Gateman form the Funeral Parlour in several episodes of the Munsters (which I have rewatched for the first time in many years). He was perfect for this comico-serious role. He aced it. "Dramatic" actors, I always say, make the best comic actors because they have the high seriousness needed to sell absurdity and comic schtick. Witness Leslie Nielsen, brother of Canada's former Speaker of the House of Parliament, Eric Nielsen,

/ The name of the firm was Gateman, Goodbury, and Graves Funeral Home. John Carradine was Mr. Gateman.

// What a guy! Apart from firing Herman several times, of course. But he always relented because of Lily's advocacy or a sense of humour and fair play. Classic TV boss. Also, he like Lily's cooking despite knowing what he is eating (in one example, he praises her Iguana). Mr. Gateman fun fact:  he is an old-fashioned man who loves the same corny music as the Munsters, but hates jazz and other modern music (from about 1890).

/// Mind you, there are lots of people who think iguana is good eating so it is plausible. Tastes like chicken. Or maybe frog's legs. About the only thing that doesn't taste like chicken is lamb, duck, goose and beef. The dark red meats.

It's a crapshoot at one and two for Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee, with Max Schreck and Klaus Kinski rounding out 3 and 4. An actually solid list.

List fails without Vlad The Impaler.

#1 is correct.

I won't argue with the top few spots, but they ranked Oldman's Dracula far too low on that list. And the person that wrote the list LIKED Keanu's Jonathan Harker? Yeah, someone is smoking crack.

Love at First Bite is a better movie than it deserves to be, and George Hamilton deserves to be higher on this list.

wiseolddude: #1 is correct.

It's hard to argue with Christopher Lee. Gary Oldman should have been one of the top five. The list sounds to me like the author was having a hard time trying to balance out different genres of Dracula portrayal in order to appear Fair. As much as I love Tricia Helfer, she should not have been a half a dozen spaces above the Gary Oldman portrayal of Dracula.

Yeah Gary Oldman carried that movie and is largely why I love it so much.

Vlad, Vlad, Vlad the impaler
Vlad, Vlad, He could have been a sailor but he's
Vlad, Vlad, Vlad the impaler
Vlad, Vlad, He could have been a
Whaler could have been a Tailor,
He turned out to be Norman Mailer
Whoaaoo
He stepped back and he smoked a joint
Twenty thousand peasants had to get the point
Mommy was a hamster,
Daddy was a jailer
Real tough childhood for such a farking failure
[chorus]
He's so glad he's Vlad
When he was a boy, they sent him to the Turks
But you know they didn't like him because all the Turks were jerks
When Vlad returned home his wrath for his ancient foe had spurned
But the ancient art of impalement was something that the boy had learned
Oh, how he learned
He learned, they burned and burned and burned
Rotisseries of corpses turned
He's so glad, oh he's so glad he's Vlad

I'll add Buffy in pink leather pants as a bonus. Yowzah

I love the show to death, it's still top 5 for me all time, and yeah this was not the strongest opening. But it did give us good foreshadowing. I maintain that season 5 is peak Buffy.

Fun fact: the actor was in a Dracula origin story (Vlad the Impaler, etc.) not long after this episode aired.

I had no idea there were so many. Glad to see Frank Langella ranked high. I loved his version. Not so much for Frank but for the look of the movie.

While I wouldn't exactly call Gary Oldman's Dracula the best Dracula (my favourite Dracula movie, though), he is certainly better than half those listed higher than him.

Claes Bang's Dracula, for instance, was what made me stop watching the 2020 series. He's awful. Who thought it would be scary, entertaining or interesting to make Dracula act like James Bond?

/the baby was pretty stupid, too

I've always found it odd how it seems like British actors have no problem with American accents but American actors struggle with British accents. Keanu Reeves' accent was horrible.

Just watched the Francis Ford Coppola version last night. Beautifully shot and operatically over the top, and Oldman was excellent. Not everyone's cup of blood...but quite good.

The Spanish Dracula is excellent, though Carlos Villarías is rather weak. The rest is far superior to the Lugosi version...and far sexier. .

Chris Lee is wildly over rated (even he knew that) and he could  have been replaced by a cardboard cutout most of the time. Dracula is a character...Lee plays him as a mute boogeyman. Hammers BRIDES OF DRACULA is a better film anyway.

Saw the 1959 Mummy last nite with Christopher Lee. Can't say that I liked it that much. The pacing was off because of a bunch of flashbacks. A couple were needed for the story. But there were a couple extra ones that just didn't work.

Gary Oldman should be ranked much, much higher, even with the butt/buns hairdo.

That was a fun list, just to see how many actors have played the character.

Dominic Percel !!! Hahahahaha, sometimes I forget he can do more than grunt and ask for more beer.

Lee is the scariest in my book because the man could actually have killed people easily.
