That's some crap reporting.  Nothing from the Secretary of State of Iowa on how they are going to handle it?

Just anti Covid measures, nothing to see here.

Let me guess... Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Ames, Iowa City, Dubuque, right? All the bluest of blue precincts?

That's the Trump plan.  Ignore the virus & people might not vote.

The only way Republicans can win is by suppressing the vote.  Their ideas are hugely unpopular.

They can only win by cheating.

Closing polling places due to a virus the president refuses to take action against is a vote for both the president and the virus.

2020-10-30 1:20:19 PM
Fortunately for Republicans, they were smart and waited to vote in person while those idiot libs have been out voting for weeks. Ha!

I don't think Iowa has been allowing significant early voting.

Yes. of course.

Not only will Trump not accept the result of the election I'm pretty sure the UN is going to reject the result too.

2020-10-30 1:31:15 PM
"NPR further notes that since 2016, Iowa has lost 261 polling places, which affect roughly 30 percent of the state's voters, many of whom reside in urban areas."

Fascinating but predictable.

2020-10-30 1:31:52 PM
more than 121,000 people in Iowa tested positive for the coronavirus.

Christ, they're infecting people just passing through the state at that point.

Has there been a thread on that Songbird movie, yet? I really wanna lay into it.

"anti Covid measures"

Here are some quotation marks you missed for the obvious sarcasm.

Iowa has had great response with the absentee ballots and crazy response to in person absentee voting - the first couple weeks when the weather was warm, my county auditor had hundreds and hundreds of people there. I waited a bit, it got quite cold, I went down there first thing in the morning and was still in a line. I think this will only help Democrats as a lot of Rs on local news sites etc have stated "The ONLY way I'm voting is in person on election day".

The early voting has come from 50% registered democrats and 30% registered republicans. Making it harder to vote now only suppresses the republicans who on Hair Fuhrers are waiting until November 3rd.

Just be glad the simulation is Sim Earth and not The Sims. When you start staying awake until you pee yourself, and ladders start disappearing from your pool, then you need to be concerned.

Iowa early voting began on 5 Oct.  You could either vote in person or request an absentee ballot.  Absentee ballot requests had to be submitted by 24 Oct. to ensure voters received their ballot and had time to return it.  Doesn't sound too terrible.

No matter the problem, the solution is either cutting taxes or closing polling locations in urban areas. It's mysterious.

Not if they close polling locations only in heavily Democratic precincts.

Who could have known COVID would have been a factor in this year's election.  Such a surprise.

You mess with the tradition of the first primary of closed caucuses, you don't get the Styrofoam skimmers and party horns.

2020-10-30 1:42:21 PM
How about we just let Iowa and New Hampshire keep their first in the nation place by closing the voting now and whoever is ahead wins?

2020-10-30 1:43:33 PM
Are any stores or businesses being shut down or just polling areas ?? Bet this is GOP voter suppression at work again ..

In Iowa urban areas is a seven square block area near Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines

So they think the best way to mitigate risk is to have more people gathering at fewer polling locations.

fta: "I'm certain that it's going to make it harder for people to vote. But I am seeing a resolve right now, where people are determined," Vikki Brown, the chair of the Black Hawk County Democrats, told reporters. "Whatever you do, we're going to counteract it."

Brave words but the GOP are successfully suppressing the vote here.

They're not thinking. They're panicking and blindly lashing out at Democrats any way they can. They'll throw their own to the lions to stigginit to the libs. And all of their messages are colliding and becoming confused because they're flailing around trying to justify their decisions with anything they can, even things they previously declared were nothing.

It's not likely to happen in MD, but if the Republicans tried this shiat here, I would be willing to get in line and camp in the snow for a week to have my vote counted.

This ain't someplace like Georgia or Texas where such shinnanigans can disproportionately target POC voters.

Instead, this is Iowa.  Make it harder for voters, and the "I got mine so fark you" crowd is more likely to give up voting, while the "fark the orange menace" crowd is more likely to wait around.

Conservatives *really* need to stop drinking their own koolaid.  Dem voters aren't lazy.  They are motivated.

'Rona is surging in rural areas, too. Where'd you think all those people that protested mass lockdowns came from? They came from rural communities that thought that they wouldn't get hit like cities would.

yes, because packing more people into fewer places for longer periods of time is definitely the way to do that, especially after those people have had to travel longer distances to do so.

Iowan here. I voted (and my wife voted, and everybody I know in Iowa voted) a straight Democratic ticket by absentee ballot the first week of October. We also dropped our ballots off, in person, in the drop off box in front of the county administration building. I don't know anybody who plans on voting on Tuesday.

Oh, the trumpers that are planning on voting in person on Tuesday?
