(Reuters)   Fancy Bear loves swiping pic-a-nic baskets from those rascally California and Indiana Democrats. Indiana? Really? You guys know a Democrat is not competitive there, right?   (reuters.com) divider line

"Sorry about that, they heard I was from Indiana and were trying to help me"

News of the Russian hacking activity follows last month's announcement here by Microsoft that Fancy Bear had attempted to hack more than 200 organizations, many of which the software company said were tied to the 2020 election. Microsoft was able to link this year's cyber espionage campaign to the Russian hackers through an apparent programming error that allowed the company to identify a pattern of attack unique to Fancy Bear, according to a Microsoft assessment reviewed by Reuters.

Sounds like the bear took a shiat in the root.

There were lots of irregularities in 2018.  I don't think for one second the GOP won the senate fairly.    You rarely see individual districts get rid of their GOP representative, but then vote for the GOP senator.  That's farking weird, but the result insures maximum dysfunction.

So what I'm saying is, expect a tie in the Electoral College.

Democrats are only slightly less likely to win Indiana now, than Trump was likely to win nationally in 2016.  A stretch, but not impossible.

It can happen, but it takes a huge effort to overcome the roadblocks the Republicans have put into place...

In case anyone was wondering if "hammer & sickle" was included as a subset within the GOP's "by hook or by crook" election strategy?

It is.

Fancy Bear arose out of the same place as Trump - - they're both victims and no one likes them.

To be fair, Indiana is an easy target.  I am sure that the I.T. they could afford to hire had the web site running on IIS.

Indiana will not do the right thing and vote out a criminal.  The people here, overall, are awful and people like Trump appeal to them.

So the Russians attacked California, which is strongly blue (538: Biden by 28.4%)  and Indiana, which is strongly red (538: Trump by 8.8%).  I can't think of a more useless action.

Obama did win Indiana one time.  However it would indicate a massive problem with polling practices if he did win here.

So mot out of the question but not likely, either.

Just more fuel for cries of "rigged". The election framework needs a complete rebuild.

I know MS bashing is still the ib-thing among certain circles of the IT family, but most security issues come from bad programming practices. If we want to dicksize IIS

Whatever.  You don't secure web sites on MS servers.  You just don't.

Sure, but we still need to be sure people get to vote and their vote will count. Every step will need examination.

They were probably searching for ways to hurt Pete Buttigieg by getting into the Indiana Democratic files. I heard from a friend in cyber security that the city he mayored was getting probed and attacked like crazy in the first half of the year.

Well, it can't be vote fraud because everyone knows that doesn't exist.

Whatever. I've secured plenty of high-traffic websites on MS platforms. Perhaps you should be better at your job instead of taking the lazy way out. "Waaah. M$ and the evil empire!"

I've had to deal with various Bear and Panda groups. Neither of them choose their targets lightly nor do they do anything strictly for the lulz. Everything is done with purpose.

Omg, you guys are never going to believe this, but Tucker Carlson got secret files from Rudy who got them from Ukraine so you know they're true, and guess what? Mayor Pete is GAY!

Boy, it sure is strange that Russian hackers are always targeting Democrats instead of Republicans, he said sarcastically.

Maybe Indiana is not competitive because of a long game of outside interference? The CIA funded grad schools in Creative Writing out in the middle of nowhere, just for the ideological value of the USA funding free speech in contrast to the Russians. There is an ideological psyops that has been waged in flyover country, and the Cold War didn't end for the KGB/GRU.

Or they've tried hacking most other states too, and just haven't been noticed yet.

No.  The Indiana Democratic Party is amateur hour. The candidate for governor has 0% name ID. Most of the state legislative candidates they recruit are done so to force the GOP to spend money protecting incumbents so they can't use that money to go after endangered Democratic legislators. Most of the state party staffers can't find a rural county seat without GPS. They have no agenda, no plan for rebuilding the party in rural areas, and no interest in doing either.

And in turn the DNC has no interest in rebuilding the Indiana Democratic Party, so we're farked.
