Wait... what? I missed something... "opening up 5000 square miles of Ocean to Maine" What?

Don't they have ranked choice voting? Lisa Savage's votes will go to Gideon.

Obama made it a National Monument or something. And Trump reversed it, saying he was re-opening it to lobster fishers. Unfortunately, the waters are way too deep to really fish for lobstah. AND the largest importer of Maine Lobstahs is China....and China ain't buying nothing for the last few months. The virus shut down everything. And tariffs don't encourage trade.

This is true. Trump farks over the northeastern lobster states, and old fool Collins asks for more.

A further 5 percent of voters said they would back third-party candidates Lisa Savage and Max Linn.

People who vote for turd-party candidates in a close race are pieces of sh*t.

Maine has a tradition of being insane. I think they fixed that with, what is it.. ranked voting?

We have ranked choice voting in Maine, so you are welcome to vote third and fourth party to your content. So long as you rank Gideon above Collins, Gideon will get your vote when it actually counts.

More states should look into other voting options both to give other candidates exposure and to eliminate the tyranny of the minority most places have today.

It isn't ranked voting for all elections though? Aren't some still winner takes all. Is this one of those

Yes, the Senate race is ranked choice.

Federal offices only because the courts ruled we need to amend the state constitution to use it for state offices. That is funny in a sad way because we enacted ranked choice because of our previous governor and his "independent" partner that helped him into office twice.

Every election in Maine will be conducted via ranked choice voting this year, including the presidential election.

Third party in our system is simply to alter the policy of one party or the other.   It's difficult to do that when the two parties have unswerving and unshakeable goals:

Democrat: "Stay alive despite the GOP and Police thugs trying to kill us with Covid and bullets."
GOP: "Grab as much cash as we can stuff into our pants and stick it to the Libs when possible. As a parting gift, we do whatever harm we can on the way out."

I mean, who could argue with that?

I hope Mainers don't get duped by the right winger in centrist clothing. She has sided with republicans every time they needed her for something shifty or crooked.

They absolutely should.

But then the major parties wouldn't be able to blame third party voters for their own failures when they run unpopular candidates or refuse to implement policies the voters actually want.

RTFA, it covers this.  Gideon's lead goes from 1 point to 2.  This race is close.  I hate to be negative but combined with Dems not getting their asses to the polls in Florida, well, be prepared for disappointment.

You get the government you deserve.  If people are too stupid to see the Collins "no" vote was a totally orchestrated dog-and-pony show then they deserve her for a Senator.  You can fool some of the people all of the time.

Don't get in the way of his rage. He just needs pre-made up excuses when his party's bad candidates lose. Can't blame the candidate, it's gotta  be the voters' fault

Well, if your state doesn't have RCV and someone votes for a party that can't get it's shiat together and only runs a vanity candidate for President every four years?  Then yes, that's the voter's fault.

Only if you are assuming that if they didn't vote third party, they would have voted for you.

There is no difference between a voter who voted for a third party and a voter who stayed home. If percentage of votes cast mattered, they would make a difference. But it doesn't, so they don't. It doesn't matter how many people don't vote for you, only how many do. If you can't get enough people to vote for you, that's your fault.

The single most powerful thing that came out of electing Republicans to the Senate majority is putting Mitch McConnell in charge of the Senate because the person running the Senate has basically unlimited power to control the chamber's agenda. It stands to reason that virtually no decision an individual Senator makes is more consequential than the very act of them getting elected to the Senate.

450,000 Mainers have already voted, 2/3 of their 2016 total. That vote, like Collins career, is another day late and dollar short moment.
