This is great news. The last thing Trump wants is the cameras on as he loses and he now knows he's going to lose.

This asshole would not cancel his kids execution if he thought it would get him good exposure and adulation. He knows it's going to be a shiatstorm and he can't do anything about it.

This will be most enjoyable to watch unfold. I can't wait to see the non-concession tweet.

It's like when you play Risk and you know you're about to lose so you hunker down in Australia and just wait for the end.

It's his party and he will pout if he wants to.
Pout if he wants to.
Pout if he wants to.

shastacola: This is great news. The last thing Trump wants is the cameras on as he loses and he now knows he's going to lose.

That's exactly what this is.  If it's held in the hotel, there's going to be several cell phone cameras recording him at any given moment as returns come in.  In the White House, they can prevent that.

It's good that his handlers have finally gotten through. Now if they'd just leave a pistol on the nightstand we could all get back to trying to dig ourselves out of this mess.

FTA:

"Mr. Trump's approach to politics has always been to treat it as something of a mystical proposition, governed by otherworldly forces in a world in which things generally work out in his favor. The voting results after a campaign in which Mr. Trump has been judged harshly by voters for his performance during the coronavirus pandemic could tell him a very different story."

I was gonna say Let's get Will Wheaton to narrate that audiobook, but even better -- get Barack Obama to do it.

Wasn't the gathering illegally large anyway? If he does it in the WH, then DC govt can't shut it down.

2020-10-30 9:10:10 AM
So his ego is of greater need than the cash he would have made from the rubes that night

2020-10-30 9:10:28 AM
It was unclear why the plans had changed. But the prospect of the president appearing on the night of the election at the hotel was certain to reinforce concerns about Mr. Trump mingling the office with his business.

It would also reinforce questions about whether the hotel would be in violation of Washington coronavirus restrictions limiting gatherings to 50 people. And a party would have to be paid for by the campaign, which is facing a cash crunch in the final weeks of the race.

So what's the real reason? These are all too sensible and exactly what a responsible person would do, so we know they aren't what is guiding Trump's decision.

He believes he's going to lose and as humiliating as that would be, the only way to make it worse is to plan a big party for himself where nobody will bother showing up.

There isn't going to be a large gathering at the WHite House though.

The reason why Presidents have used off-site venues is because, until Trump, they did not use the White House as a political prop.

It's a residence and an office, not a stage for campaigning.

There are 2 reasons for this, contained in the same paragraph.

" It would also reinforce questions about whether the hotel would be in violation of Washington coronavirus restrictions limiting gatherings to 50 people. And a party would have to be paid for by the campaign, which is facing a cash crunch in the final weeks of the race. "

Trump has probably been given the message that if he wants to contest the election results, it's on his dime.  The way Barrett got rammed through pre-election was Moscow Mitch's way of saying Trump is done.  And I think the people who really pay to elect a President are fine with Biden and do not want the absolute chaos necessary to overturn the election and hand it over to Trump.

2020-10-30 9:14:30 AM
Or it's to be in the WH so he can call the military against the "insurrection" of someone beating him.

2020-10-30 9:14:36 AM
This is actually REALLY big news, assuming it's really true.

Because it means he knows he is going to lose in such a fashion that a "ra ra" show at the White House would prove to be embarrassing.

This is the best sign we've seen so far that he might not be able to pull off a steal.

as someone posted after me - the DC restrictions are to 50 people. I'm assuming the White House holds more than 50 people.

no doubt that will be one of the few bills the campaign will still pay

2020-10-30 9:17:02 AM
This could be a good sign or it could be Trump treating the White House like it's his anyway and simply moving the party there.

Good luck with that.

Hahahaha.

He had been fundraising from big donors on the idea that one name would be drawn and they and a guest would be flown to DC, put up at no cost at the hotel, and given VIP access for the night.

Yeah, that ain't gonna happen. So, he grifted all you stupid mothefarkers one last time before he leaves office.

Fuggin' morans.

Also if DC decided to yank the hotel's liquor license (which they could), it'd be a death knell for the bar and high priced sushi restaurant there.  Especially since bookings at the hotel are already down.  If you don't have a liquor license in this town you can't just print money.

I remember that very scenario 58 years ago when my big Brother had conquered the entire globe except for my 5 little blue blocks on Australia or Indonesia or Papua New Guinea. We would roll and roll the dice and my 7 year old self would keep coming up winning to live and fight one more day. Losing was inevitable, but I still remember the joy of watching my despotic brother meltdown as the dice clearly favored me.

Even my brothers friends started viewing me as some kind of hero.

The illegal nature is not an issue.  Full stop

The cash crunch is a good reason, but if he were winning and knew he was, he would find no shortage of people willing to foot this bill

It is interesting to say the least

I've gotten about 50 of those emails in just the last few days. "Emergency fundraising opportunity" and such.
Haven't had the heart to tell them that if they're relying on funds to win the election after half the votes are in, they're shiat outta luck.
And if they're counting on me to bail them out, they've a better shot at getting paid by sending an invoice to the Trump Organization.

You think, despite all creditable and reasonable evidence to the contrary, that Trump thinks he's going to win the election?  Do you think he's also detached from reality enough to think he's going to win the popular vote, too?

I was going to disagree with you, but you've convinced me: he really is that delusional.

This is hilarious. He played YOU. we never believed trump. Trump supporters believed Trumps lies is them being an idiot not everyone  else who didn't buy his BS.

I have seem people do this often "haha libs trump lies what are you going to do about it?"

He is lying to YOU. Not us.  We know he is a crook and liar. So you supporting him is him conning you. Not us.
