just waiting until it comes around to buttered toast, AND I can do cinnamon sugar toast but, then I guess another 15 plus years of random crap I don't have at 6:45am.

make me some tea: That looks really good. I'd eat that.

You should try my crabapple jam on sourdough cinnamon swirl bread.  My own crabapples, a gold rush sourdough starter and all the spices fresh ground from whole.  That's what I've been taking in to work for tea breaks this week.

Figs on toast have always been a thing. Usually in the form of preserves or jam.

Figs are amazing, and they're often forgotten about. Figs, some mascarpone, a drizzle reduced balsamic on toasted bread, maybe with some sliced strawberries to go with the figs, and you've got happiness. And there are several great fig spreads out on the market as well. Picture making your own Fig Newtons, only with decent bread. Or a flatbread, with fig spread, caramelized onion, proscuitto and chevre.

Heck, sliced figs on thick crouton, with a dollop of honeyed mascarpone, a slice of strawberry, and a chunk of pistachio or hazelnut toffee.

Figs have long been undervalued in the US, and they're amazing. Always have been.

I'm a shiatty millennial. If I'm busting out avocados in the morning, I'm doing breakfast tacos.

Sorry to burst your fig wasp bubble, but the fig produces an enzyme that dissolves the wasps. If you have an extra-juicy and moist fig, however, it's the liquified wasp remains that are giving it the unctuous texture.

Fig wasps find them to be the best f*cking fruit ever.

Fresh figs and goat cheese.

Warm brie or camembert with hot fig jam.

And if this bullshiat makes it harder for me to get fresh figs every season, I am gonna cull the herd a bit.

I'm waiting for the Japanese persimmons to arrive at the Asian supermarkets I visit. They're normally in by now, but I haven't seen them yet.

FrancoFile: Warm brie or camembert with hot fig jam.

I had some leftover dried fruit (cherries, cranberries, and figs) along with some candied lemon and orange peel. I cooked it with some orange juice and some spices. Went really well with warm brie.

If you're not having Vegemite with it, you're doing toast wrong.

Ripe figs are impossible to buy, because they only last a few hours after picking and they don't ripen if picked early.  We sprouted trees from our previous home (2 out of 3 grew) and will plant them in the Spring.  There's enough fig jam and canned figs to see us through until the new trees start bearing.

I'll stick with Vegemite and creamy peanut butter on an everything bagel.

We had a fig tree when I lived down south. The farking ants would always get to them before I could. I became obsessed with trying to get a ripe one, trying all sorts of shiat but they always won. I should have said fark it and went scorched earth on it.

Pro tip. Fig Newtons are not a great munchie snack after spending all day drinking tequila.

wait wait wait, you can't just mix hymenoptera insects like that!! it's against nature!

/I was today years old when I learned I've been eating wasps when I eat figs
//at least they're wasp larvae imported from Turkey?

Okay, did some research, and not all Fig varietals are pollinated by Fig wasps.

so you're only rarely eating something that has a wasp ghost (because the dead female wasp is absorbed for nutrients by the fig flower).

/I'm actually a bit disappointed, I was hoping this was going to be the new Crunchy Frog

I mean figs are great (even bought a pack last week) but to say avocado toast is over but to say avocado toast is over seems weird to me, I mean the whole trend was abit weird to me since I have been eating avocado on bread/toast since I was young and never thought it was weird at least here in California.

Now I want breakfast tacos. Or a good breakfast burrito. A diner I used to frequent in Boulder made awesome breakfast burritos. Hashbrowns, refried beans, roasted green chilis, eggs, and cheese wrapped up in a tortilla, covered in more cheese, broiled, then smothered in green chili. Best hangover food. Even if you don't have a hangover.

That diner is long gone unfortunately, but when I was in college it was one of my favorites.

I would imagine relying on wasps for pollination is inefficient and unreliable for larger scale producers. I figured they just spray ethylene on the trees or something.

Fresh figs are a delight. And hubiestubert's descriptions are making me crave fatty cheese spreads and balsamic. Reheated leftovers for dinner tonight is not the same.

That's obscene!

The only bread figs should be eaten on are fresh biscuits - after the figs have been lightly stewed, of course.

Figs on sourdough seem like it would be great with some marinated sweet peppers.
