The drilled mufflers that they enjoy revving very loud at 2am in the morning as they race down the streets probably alert the cops to put down their phone and pick up their radar gun.

I only see 2 kinds of Ram 2500s, and it doesn't surprise me that either type racks up tickets. They're either jacked up coal rollers with a big trump/blue lives matter/snek flag in the back, or they're commercial haulers usually with a boat or some fancy cars on a trailer. So either they're driven by idiots or workers trying to make it somewhere on schedule.

"15.09% of Challenger drivers have a speeding violation"
1) A speeding violation.
List sucks.
Should have gone with quantity of violations, not one single violation.
2) What the HELL are the other 85% owners of Dodge Challengers doing without a single speeding violation?! Why get a muscle car (don't laugh), if you aren't going at least sometimes, push it a little bit? (And get caught once or twice of those sometimes).

Don't get me wrong, I have a powerful car and unless you are on the autobahn or some similar road think it stupid to reach high speeds. However, I accelerate... a lot. I try to maintain speed limits, but every once in a while I do go over. Usually when overtaking.
But 85% of Dodge Challenger owners?
That just feels absurd to me.

/also, buy a red Mustang and see cops tail you waiting for you to speed, whether it's quota or they want to see the car closer, I don't know.
//apparently cars that attract attention, attract attention, wouldn't you know
///this includes super cars

The film we're going to review today is 1977's "Smokey and the Bandit", starring Burt Reynold's mustache, Jackie Gleason's beer gut, and Sally Fields legs.

This is the best signals intelligence film ever made.   It's got frequency hopping, funkspiels, deceptive callsigns, spoofing, this film has *EVERYTHING*.

I would think that the rabid mustangs that show up to cars and coffee events and take a chunk of curb should be on this list. Also who even has a Dodge Dart anymore? They magically disappeared from my area.

Waze has reduced my speeding tickets to zilch.  As a result, only have one speeding ticket (pre-waze) in my 09 G8 GT.

I do have a leadfoot, but tend to be fairly careful anyhow--most of the time.  Unless we're talking about the speeding ticket I got in my wife's Venture about a decade ago.  I actually laughed when the cop told me I was doing 71 in a 55.  Told him that a) was passing someone b) always was taught to pass as quickly as possible and c) do you even see what I'm driving?  71?  Your gun needs calibration. and d) you only tagged me because I used my blinker, and if I stop using my blinkers I'd have one less ticket.

He was not amused.  My kids were, tho, especially seeing their dad getting a ticket in person, which they had to then tell everyone they saw for the next few years.

I realize the blinker point doesn't make any sense until I mention this happened in the dark and this cop was about a half mile behind me at the start.

Was kind of surprised by some of the cars on the list until I realized that we are looking a very interesting window.  They have to be vehicles that are both performance oriented, and thus will encourage their owners to push them, and have to be relatively cheap and easily replaceable so owners are more willing to trash them and then move on to the next toy.

I've been driving for, oh, 36 years now.

I got 2 speeding tickets when I was 19 years old.   One because I was being "smart-stupid", in that I knew where the police were so I slowed down before I got to where he was, and sped back up around the corner.  He decided to follow me.   The second was because I was being chased by Guido the Killer Pimp in Wahiawa, because of my passenger's big mouth.

I got one just a few years ago for keeping up with traffic.  South of Exit 8 on the Northway speed goes from 65 MPH to 55 MPH, but most people just keep doing 70 to 75 MPH.  I happen to be the fish that was caught that day, but because of my excellent driving record I was able to plead down to a lesser violation.

So now I stay in the right hand lane and do the speed limit.

Oh, the Northway, I feel for you.  Used to do that commute, but have been doing the Thruway for the last oh, 20 years or so.  That drop you mention I'm quite familiar with, but generally I'm pretty god at making sure there's at least one other driver going much faster than me to act as my foil there, or anywhere else.  Young men in Mustangs or WRXes are often very obliging with only a bit of encouragement, like zooming past them right before the speed limit changes and downshifting shortly thereafter.

Yeah...I'm a jerk, too. :D

LOL, my grandfather in his old caddy got nailed so much I'm pretty sure he lost his license a few times.  Pretty sure it matters little once you're north of 80 mph, especially back when limits where 55 all over.

I worked with a guy who owned a hoped up ricer-mobile a few years ago. I had a sleeper Mustang. Sleeper meaning it had a built 5.4l engine in it and a blower but based on looks and sound you would think it was a stock GT.
The guy keeps needling me so one Saturday we had to work and at the end of the day he starts his mess as we are pulling out of the plant onto the mile long drive. He pulls beside me and starts jumping his car like its the start of a race grinning at me. As I boil the tires he takes off and beat me for about 500-600 feet. I was still venting tire smoke as I passed him. I waited at the end of the road and it was almost 45 sec before he got there.
I looked at him and told him there was no replacement for displacement.
Funny thing is he never tried to race me again.
I got older and wiser and sold the beast. Also surprisingly I haven't had a ticket since. Funny that. I am considering buying one of the electric Stangs though.

Proof the list is pure bullshiat. Hell forget the GM/Fords, Euro cars in general will blow 99.9% of that list off the road so unless their owners are just smarter, which is entirely possible based on the listed vehicles, it just smacks of BS.

I built the engine in the green car. On Nitrous the best run was 10.62 sec This is the naturally aspirated best run of the day. Both of those were before we put in the subframe connectors and stiffened up the body. After it would pull both front wheels off the ground about a foot and a half. Yeah that's a full drag racing prepped V6.

I don't have an Economist subscription anymore so don't have access to their archives.

It was in the 90's probably around '97.  They would regularly pick a particular subject to focus on in one issue (they called them Surveys).  This one was on the US auto industry.
