Well, there was that whole thing with the Cole 20 years ago. Maybe it was payback for that.

Of course, that assumes Donald Trump even knows what the Cole was or what happened to it. Which is highly unlikely. But maybe someone told him.

That was as much Yemen's fault as 9/11 was the people of Afghanistan's fault. Taliban? sure... Yemen has no government right now. The Cole was an AQ mission through and through. Some Yemeni government help? Most likely, yeah. But that government has been dead for a while now. They are a lawless hellscape with no potable water.

Trump doesn't know dick, as you point out. This is clearly Jared helping out his buddy MBS along with the anti-Iran folks.

Same can be said for Iraq 2003... Vietnam... Afghanistan after we overthrew the Taliban and the Northern Alliance rolled into Kabul.

We either enjoy transferring all of our money to the arms makers and killing our kids or we're incredibly f*cking stupid.

Sorry... Yemen is getting obliterated and those innocent people stuck in the middle (non combatants) are probably just going to be wiped off the map.

It does show how much the Saudi's would like to follow us, though. They have spent hundreds of billions on equipment and can't beat one of the poorest countries in the entire world.

At least we have something in common.

This is a selling point for his most genocidal followers. I'd just as well talk about this Jan. 21 of next year, thanks.

We've horribly underestimated Quds force for decades.

It's not that we underestimate them, it's that they can operate better in their neighborhood than we can. Which is pretty much to be expected. I understand that Iran has used them to operate all kinds of nefarious sh*t in that region for decades. I wasn't angry that we killed Soleimani, just how brazenly and stupidly we did it. We got lucky that the response wasn't worse so it worked out.

Yemen is just a proxy war for Saudi and Iran... I just wish we could figure out how to support the overthrow of Iran's leadership without having our fingerprints all over it. The people of Iran want it, but they don't have enough power.

Just very frustrating.

We did it for the Saudis, our buddies, the same as we looked the other way when they attacked us on 9/11 and instead we hit Iraq for them, too.

Came here for this, leaving happily. If Trump's last act is to start a shooting war with Iran, the GOP will regard this disaster of a presidency as a win.

I was absolutely mad that they killed him. He was coordinating the Shia militias and was instrumental to defeating ISIS.  The US trained and backed Sunni military defected or just fled the field giving ISIS the weapons and arms that were instrumental to taking over the area. We also murdered Iraqis in the convoy.

You're right, it is. But the Houthis have the backing of the people while the Yemeni government just represents the wealthy.

As long as the US puts financial and political pressure on the Iranians, there will be no regime change. Giving a theocratic regime a mortal enemy allows them to retain power.

I honestly had no idea we were bombing Yemen. I thought that we were just selling SA the bombs (and jets and tanks and ......) and they were bombing Yemen in their proxy war with Iran.

It's cool that Trump is running the country like a business and making sure the department of defense gets out there and improves it's profit margins by contracting itself out to the Saudis.

15 Saudis died in the US on 9/11. The US had to retaliate against the nation where they died. That explains so much.

Fun story. Soleimani and the Quds special forces he commanded helped US special forces lay the ground work for the invasion of Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks. There was a significant period of really close cooperation between the American and Iranian militaries. It was to the point where Soleimani, who was like effectively like #3 in the Iranian government, was strongly considering pushing his government to open peaceful relations with the US.

And then Bush gave his 2002 State of the Union, listing Iran, Iraq and North Korea as an Axis of Evil. The three countries were not only not working together, but in the case of Iran and Iraq, they absolutely despised each other. This diplomatic blunder and a new round of sanctions wiped-out the goodwill the US had built with Soleimani and he dropped any attempts at stabilizing relations with the west.

dsmith42: Walker: They pissed off his buddies one of his bosses the Saudis.

MBS bragged to the Emirati crown prince and others that Kushner was "in his pocket," the source told The Intercept.

Can't be overstated. For everything that MBS actually is, he's first and foremost extremely politically-savvy and ruthless. He seized control of a cutthroat, Old-World, absolute monarchy by force and viciousness. He held dozens of the most wealthy and powerful men on earth hostage in a hotel for months (and it looks like he assassinated more than one of them), until they kissed the ring and paid him billions of dollars, effectively as ransom. He 'respects' Jared's political skills the same way you respect your boss's kid's crayon art.

His buddy-buddy, pillow-party relationship with Jared is one of the most obvious, one-sided political cons we've seen in recent memory.

I really wonder if MbS, MbZ, Putin, and Xi ever have meetings debating who gets to force Trump to do what this month. Just the idea of some of the worst despots having a Zoom meeting where they tell stories about what they got Trump/Kushner to do or believe this time is both hilarious, sad, and so depressing because it almost seems believeable. Not that they couldn't do it, but that they wouldn't. Their interests only align in the sense that they all want the USA brought down a peg.

Just look at Donnie looking on as the two cool kids share a happy greeting
