Black Friday was basically done in 2018.  They've been spreading it out over the whole week before for at least a few years.

F*ck that noise. I already got all my Christmas shopping done for this year.

Didn't even have to leave the house or put on pants.

FTH:experts predicting Americans will spend $3 billion every single day the week of Thanksgiving

Sorry kids, because of the pandemic, I can only afford to spend 1 billion every single day the week of Thanksgiving.

Calling this "growth" is foolish. Calling this a transfer, possibly lasting, of consumer purchasing from brick and mortar to online is a better description.

"experts predicting Americans will spend $3 billion every single day the week of Thanksgiving"

This American is spending exactly the same amount he did last year, which is "jack shiat".

Backed hard. Black Friday feels like something a foreign movie with only a cursory understanding of American culture (Walmart, guns, jesus, violence) would make up as a joke.

At $7.25/hour it's not much money.

Shame, though. The only thing funnier than watching middle-aged women nearly get into a fistfight over a piece of crap DVD player is telling someone there's no physical way to fit a 50" TV into a Civic.

Try being salaried and having to work that day.

So $8.01, still not much.

Companies persist in doing this even though marketing research has shown that people spend what they are going to spend for the holidays regardless of the number of shopping days or how early they put up the xmas decorations.

Like "The House of Want" in the Savagelands theme park in the most recent TV incarnation of Orwell's "Brave New World."
