Isn't this more obvious than asinine based on the effects of a pandemic on the entertainment industry?

The entire cast and crew of "Festival of the Lion King" and "Finding Nemo - The Musical" at Disney's Animal Kingdom has been laid off.

While that is depressing, I wouldn't say that's "nearly all" of its "cast members".

Okay, I read some more of the article.  It does look like a bloodbath.

If we all followed scientists and medical professionals advice, we would probably almost be over the pandemic by now.

But you'll still be able to buy a remote-controlled baby Yoda to keep Disney afloat.

All of these require people to be in close contact on stage and in the audience. Bigger picture this is a good thing.

Many people are not inspired by Ron DeSantis' strong leadership and scientifically informed analysis, so attendance is down.

If only we had just opened that state a little sooner, then maybe this travesty could have been averted.

When are you going to apologize to DeSantis? When will he get his apology?

*checks numbers* Oh, more than 10,000 dead in Florida this year...probably higher since they hid numbers in pneumonia?

I'm sorry, Ron-your stupidity should never have been underestimated.

Unfortunately not surprising.  Nearly all lucrative avenues in the entertainment industry are screwed unless you can make online content.

Those people died of broken hearts because they couldn't see the Country Bear Jamboree thanks to the media hoax about the China virus. The hospitals just marked it down as Covid just because they drowned in their own lungs.  Hospitals and doctors get tons of money that way.

There's a variance. Odds are many countries will still do better than the US because right-wingers here are complete idiots.

We've had an uninterrupted rising wave in the US since the beginning of this pandemic. Many thanks to the Trump crime family and the Rethuglican Party (federal, state, and local) politicians that kept denying science and math. I hope all you science denying arseholes end up poor and suffer.

We did follow their advice.  Remember, back when this first loomed the idea was to mask up and social distance for a relatively limited amount of time in order to "flatten the curve", to prevent the health care system from being overwhelmed.

ArkAngel: Kinda hard to keep people employed at theme parks when they are closed and/or empty because of the pandemic.

It's not a "capacity issue", however:

Their "maximum capacity" pre-Covid actually FAR exceeded actual visitors.  On an average non-pandemic day, they would struggle to exceed 50% of max capacity.  It makes the whole "50%-75% phased capacity" trope nothing more than a song and dance to make people feel better.

It's actually not much different than when they were working to get people flying again after 9/11; very few actual security increases occurred, most of what was done was a dog and pony show to make the sheeple feel secure.  Phased capacity openings are no different.

So if the capacity is there, one would ask why all the shows were still cancelled.  My first thought would be because of the close proximity the performers would be in to a large number of castmates, often working in shared costumes that would be prohibitively expensive or unwieldy to constantly disinfect.  In a better-safe-than-sorry scenario, it looks more like this is being done out of an abundance of caution so they don't have to close back up altogether.

With no national mask mandate and few states actually taking that step, they left it to local leaders.

It failed miserably as a strategy to the point the local hospital system took out a half page ad begging people to wear masks and socially distance yesterday.

Six months of quarantine could have done it. The right wing idiots didn't even last a month because of invisible freedumbs they needed desperately.

Yes it is my dear, sweet, naïve little one. I was shocked as shiat last nigh a Sinclair owned station had the balls to actually say that state Republicans in Wisconsin had offered no plans on how to mitigate the Coronavirus. They can only file (or back) lawsuits, screaming "MUH FREEDUMBS!" at everyone, while never offering up anything. Then, with a straight face, they claim to be fighting against the pandemic in their campaign ads.

Yeah, Glenn Grothman (R-Coronavirus Caucus) you're really fighting that Covid-19 by doing absolutely nothing but screaming at Evers violating your FREEDUMBS! Oh, and like Eric Wimburger, I guess they do say it's not a big deal on a regular basis. Well they did, until the numbers started turning ugly.

I hope every Rethuglican gets their arses kicked out of office.

My glue joke appears to be close to reality. WTF are you talking about? Please discuss all the flu viruses we've successfully defeated in the past. Please then discuss how, if we had a magical "lockdown" for 6 months, we would maintain isolation from the rest of the world past that point.

Of course you won't. The entire premise of your side's claims is pure fantasy bullshiat, and you know it.

It's not the flu and scientists know it.
It's a neurological pathogen.

Amusement parks are going to have to find a new business model.
Herding people in in hordes and having them stand in line for hours to enter indoor spaces that are poorly ventilated or outdoor spaces with no social distancing  and scream a lot is not going to fly in the New Normal.
I hope they can do it - they supply jobs and amusement for a lot of people - but hey are going to have to accept the reality and move forward, instead of simply trying to retrench and survive.
