I was watching the Archive.org 4 hour bloc recordings of Mtv last night for kicks and giggles and I was amazed at how much odd crap and obscure good stuff got crammed in to the average day. The first 4 hours of Mtv were tragically awful, but the 1984 bloc was amazingly representative of just how far things came in a mere 3 years (truly glorious!) and despite what year 1984 was I did not see one single Police song, but I *did* see Echo & the Bunnymen's "Seven Seas"!

I was nice to visit, but after 8 hours of FFWding through the usual stuff to watch the 'over the top' ads for local clothing stores and "FDS", I decided not to live there.

(I'd rather live here with the better alt 80s with y'all.)

Heh. Last month I picked up the definitive expanded edition of the Arcadia remaster on mp3 (CD is damn near unobtanium at a decent price) and there's like 8 versions of "Election Day", "Goodbye Is Forever", and "Say The Word".

Totally worth it! I can't remember if I heard it said here or somewhere else, but that was the best Duran Duran album that was never made.

Also: Next month the re-release of "Duran Duran" eponymous on LP hits the shelves. Just putting that out there.

/7 & the Ragged Tiger was an awful album.

yes, so red the rose was a phenomenal album. as was notorious (from roughly the same period). their early stuff was amazing, although i generally agree 7ATRT is not quite up to par with their other output.

their early singles were all incredible, including (especially) some of the b-sides.
