The dow is going down because republicans have announced they will not even vote on Covid relief.

I love the people who try to tell you why the market moved right after it moved.  You mark those people down as utterly useless sources of really bad information.

No, I'm pretty sure it is because of oil prices and somebody's dog wanting steak again. I wish someone would make me a steak, dammit.

Why vote on relief when you're not even going to fight the disease?

I would imagine that waving the white flag and letting god sort it out, might have been just enough to spook the DOW a bit this morning.

Even if that was the plan all along (narrator: it was) saying it aloud wasn't the brightest thought.

They've gotten really good at saying the quiet part out loud this last year.

How do they know that? Sounds like wild speculation. Can't wait until Nov 4th when this all ends

This is a BRAND NEW LOW for Biden.

Sell, rubes, sell! Let the rich buy a few points down and they'll sell back to you when the price jumps next week.

It's back up to being down 702

Trump is going to outlaw the stock market during the start of his lame duck session?

Why vote on relief when you're not even going to fight the disease?

Why vote on relief when you can just blame the Democrats for not fixing the economy faster.

Expect a farkton of Presidential orders to raid the treasury before Biden is sworn in.

This guy gets it! When you elect people whose only purpose is to oppose Democrats you can't really expect them to actually help people

The Dow should be realistically going down every day, but is very artificially inflated.

/I bet it will be up 800 points tomorrow for no rhyme or reason.

2020-10-26 11:51:03 AM
Whar "jump you f*ckers, JUMP" sign?

Oh, and still too damn high as it stands, anyway.

Wait, why do we care about how rich feel about themselves today?

I dunno, the GOP seems determined to break everything before they're (probably) kicked out

This is not the corner for turning, but it is the corner we are standing on watching all the Covid go by.

Destroying the ACA and not passing more relief is an attempt to intentionally destroy the US economy and then hand it to Biden.

McConnell is making the exact same play he did with Obama and is, as usual, getting a pass on it in the media.

On November 4th, we get to see the first day of ten weeks of lame duck president who just loss. Nothing ends on November 4th. That's when it starts to get real and Dear Leader sees how much he can burn down on the way out. With republicans in charge, nothing ends.

Volatility index is still not even back up to where it was for the start of the September selloff. If this drop wants to get serious, it's still got plenty of room to do so.

Overly inflated market waiting for Powell's printer.

So back in Feb at the highs, we were over 29K on the DOW. Then it all crashed. Then the Fed/Gov stepped in, dropped rates to 0, and inflated this thing back to over 28K (as of yesterday). When this crashes again, how much work will they need to do to re-inflate this thing? 10T?

The markets are going to be so volatile this winter. As infection rates and deaths rise, markets will go down. Every time there is good news related to the vaccine, they will spike. And then they'll rise and fall based on the status of relief bills discussed in Congress.

You know, the hilarious part of trying to crash the economy now... is that Biden will get all the credit for the recovery and new highs.

Just like with Obama and McConnell's attempted crash back then.

I love brilliant strategies.  No one tell McConnell whilst it lasts.

I really wish we had a market that was actually not farked with. One that was based on, oh idk, fundamentals and rationality, instead of nothing but promises of helicopter money.

Except McConnell's strategy worked since Republicans overtook Congress, and then the White House. Assuming Biden wins it's almost certain Republicans will retake the House in 2022. And at least part of the reason will be because the economy will be so much worse than it was under Trump pre-covid.  The voting public by-and-large a) has the attention span of a goldfish, and b) tends to think everything that's happening at the moment is because of the President

This will especially be true if Biden wins, but the GOP retains control of the Senate since literally nothing will get done for 4 years

Not only that, but Trump isn't just gonna say "Well, guess I lost. Good luck Joe" on Nov 5th. He's going to fight with everything at his disposal for as long as he can. That's not going to sit very well with the markets
