The Church moves these guys around so it's possible to be an African-American prelate outside of America.

Right.  A lot of Americans seem to forget that there's a whole lot of world out there that isn't US.

People always seem to mix up African-American (which is a historical group with shared history akin to Italian-American or Chinese-American) with race. Using the term "African-American" to refer to someone outside of the United States is ridiculous. I'm not sure "black" is the preferred nomenclature (probably best to ask someone what they prefer) but I think it's the best we have outside of the geographically correct but misleading "African" or the neutrally charged but so out of fashion to be considered offensive "coloured."
