This is real life scary.  If I accidentally get pregnant, I'd need an abortion.  Pregnancy would kill or maim me, and the resulting child would be severely disabled.  I'm honestly frightened, for myself and all women.

Ovulation doesn't come with a flashing neon warning sign your cooch.
Nor is it as regular for many women as high school health classes imply.
And birth control can and does fail.

THIS right here is further proof of how farking broken our system is.  No matter who is on which side, if a slim margin of a minority is willing to fight THIS hard to show their opposition - and the majority is willing to WIN at all costs...  That is not Democracy in action.

There is nothing democratic about this.  That would imply compromise.  There is no compromise here.  This is the GOP winning because they can and "F U, if you don't like it."

Don't be ugly, dude - people can see you.

You know very well that is not the only reason women pursue therapeutic abortion services. Either way, its between her and her doctor. It's not used as casual birth control, and you know it - but you want to feel like it's your place to decide, to judge. But it is literally none of your business. You don't like abortion? Don't get one!

I hate this timeline so f*cking much.

We are one vote away from changing from a representative republic to russia oligarchy II and I don't understand the hard to the right shift by the GOP. EVERY VOTE MATTERS more than it ever has in our lifetimes.

The GOP knows this isn't a winning strategy and yet are willing to risk their entire party and political lives for ACB and Trump. I get it as far as wanting right extremism for SCOTUS, but committing political suicide for the foreseeable future seems idiotic.

They have to know that when Biden wins, and the trump admin investigations start, the shenanigans surrounding Justice Kennedy's resignation is going to come out, and when that happens Beer Bro is going to get impeached.

I know Biden isn't committing to expanding the court, and for good reason, I mean shiat, don't give the MAGAts extra enthusiasm to GOTV, but I think Biden knows he must do it or let america suffer their fate, and knowing him like I do, I do not see him f*cking us all over in regards to it.

IMO the most important things, that most be done immediately, are a public health mandate with economic relief for all americans, prosecuting trump and GOP crimes, a voting rights mandate, and fixing the lifetime appointment messes for the federal benches and SCOTUS. These should include prerequisite requirements for every judgeship in the country. Same with every cabinet post. No one should be appointed to any federal bench or be able to be a department leader without having verifiable specifics in each department's field. Want to be on a federal bench? You must be a law graduate and have been on a lower court bench for 8+ years. Head of FDA? You must be a peer reviewed medical professional. Etc etc etc.

Until we fix very basic parts of what have been easily exploitable holes in the way our government works when the GOP are in charge, we're going to have more and more Kushner types every time any republican gets into a position of power. I realize this is the end goal for the GOP and we must do everything within our power to stop them.

Please everyone, PLEASE, get out the vote. It's within our grasp and we're still teetering on the precipice and our country won't survive if trump and the GOP are allowed to steal a third election.

Abortion rights were on a state by state basis prior to Roe v. Wade, so we'll go back to that standard.  Middle class and rich white women from good families in Alabama will be able to take a quick jaunt to California or one of the other states where it is legal, get an abortion and fly back home.  Poor women will die.  As god intended.

No doubt if the national level abortion protections are gone, they'll start lobbying for federal laws against it, but that's going to be a hard slog and likely will take quite a while to produce results, if ever.

This. I got pregnant, not 6 mos. after having my son, while on bc. I was married at the time and my husband (ex 20+ years now) and I discussed at length what we should do and it was decided it was way too soon, so we terminated the pregnancy. Even now, so many years later, it was the right decision. For my stepdaughter to not be allowed to choose for herself is unconscionable in 2020.

What will republican single issue voters do if roe v wade is overturned? Will they feel they no longer need to support republicans if this issue is off the table? How would the GOP hold onto these voters?

Here's what the Memory Hole costs us: The conservatives in this country HAVE ALWAYS BEEN LIKE THIS.

They kept slaves.
They left the country and fought a war to keep their slaves.
They have fought federal power at every step.
They keep all the money.
They gave us the GIlded Age, and the Great Depression, and now another of both.
They want all the power and privilege, and they want everyone else to suffer for it. Because what good is power if you can't use it to hurt someone else, and maintain the hierarchy?
They were Democrats once. Now they are Republicans. But they have always been who they are now. They're just louder with Trump shouting everything from the rooftops.
They want a government that ALWAYS says No to you, and NEVER says No to them. Because that's what control and privilege are, to them - action without consequence. Being ON the Right makes them IN the Right, so everything they think or do is morally correct, no matter how actually reprehensible it is to everyone at large.

The GOP knows this isn't a winning strategy and yet are willing to risk their entire party and political lives for ACB and Trump. I get it as far as wanting right extremism for SCOTUS, but committing political suicide for the foreseeable future seems idiotic.

As long as the Court can stop everyone Not-Them from voting, and keep the masses from making their lives better (and not dependent on Those With Power), that's their win. That's their hold on power.

Something will happen with the Court. I don't know if it will be enough. We'll get more seats, but not the six we need to rebalance the Court properly. Biden needs a reason, not a theoretical. Once Barrett blows up something - and she will, that's why she's there - Biden will have the visible leverage he and the Democrats need to unpack the Supreme Court.

No one should be appointed to any federal bench or be able to be a department leader wit ...

How do you get the whole post to quote? My post-quoting always gets cut off.

Sen Hirono is quite correct.

This is real life scary.  If I accidentally get pregnant, I'd need an abortion.  Pregnancy would kill or maim me, and the resulting child would be severely disabled.  I'm honestly frightened, for myself and all women.

It wouldn't make abortion illegal.  It would allow states to regulate abortion.  Don't live in a shiathole state and you're fine.

And no, they're going to recriminilize it.  Why wouldn't they?  It was illegal before RvW.  It will be illegal when it's repealed.

They've already eaten away at Roe.  Death by a thousand paper cuts.  The regulations are so onerous that in some states there's only one clinic.  It would be very easy to kill that one clinic.

I'm not sure why people think the whole thing won't come crashing down when Roe goes away.

And after Roe they'll go after Brown v Board of Education.

You think this is over? You think they'll stop there? The rules of slavery are still in the Bible. They didn't get rid of them. They didn't edit them out or rule of them as heresy or even adiaphora. Nothing has been updated or changed. They still believe those things.

Religion plays the long game. It's been around for thousands of years and it has no problem waiting until it gets the chance to enforce Biblical certainty again. Just as it once had.

But that is perfect for the GOP. A lot of people have been saying that when they overturn Roe v Wade that the evangelicals will not have a reason to be allied with the GOP anymore because abortion is their hotbutton issue. But that is not true. For one thing, a lot of the Christian Right in this country have other issues the GOP supports (taking care of "those people" or placing Jesus in the schools). But banning abortion nationwide would be an ongoing crusade that they could really sink their teeth into. They would be stopping all those "murders" and they would be using the federal government to tell those godless blue states what to do, just as the Founders and God intended. This is an issue the GOP could flog for decades, just like they did with Roe v Wade to get the Christian Right and moderately conservative people who don't really pay attention to politics but know they don't like abortion to vote for them. It doesn't matter if they don't achieve it for a long time to their base. They just need to say they want to.

I hate this timeline so f*cking much.

We are one vote away from changing from a representative republic to russia oligarchy II and I don't understand the hard to the right shift by the GOP conservatives. EVERY VOTE MATTERS more than it ever has in our lifetimes.
