Considering most productions have already moved their release date to next year or sold the rights to streaming services, it doesn't make much sense to keep them open.

Anybody remember way back when Craig Kilborn was hosting The Daily Show and they used to do the Italian box office numbers?

Ah, here we go (looks like they continued it when Stewart took over)

BIGLIETTERIA INCASSO

I just remember one of them where all three synopses ended with "Tom Hanks dies".

I haven't been to a movie theater since 2005. I had to look up the movie to figure that out.

Hard to believe Jon Stewart looked that young.

Between the pandemic and me getting a decent home theater, it will be a cold day in hell before I see a movie in public again.

They did a lot more than close theaters. In campania/ Naples, they've closed school again for 6 + weeks, enforcing more lockdowns, offering no economic help.
Riots and violence erupted on Friday

Last time I was in a theater was during the first showing of 'Star Wars'. I took my little brother to see it.

In the 90's as a courier, I delivered reels of film occasionally to the new multiplex's and was stunned to see how they ran. (I used to be a projectionist in the 80's.) Then I got a look at the prices for the popcorn and snacks and almost had a heart attack. When I was a kid $0.25 bought me a huge box of deliciously buttered pop corn that I could barely finish. The same price today would buy two kernels.

It's almost like even in countries with strict lockdowns and the virus seemingly under control, the slightest thing will cause it come roaring back.
/"fark it, I guess" might just catch on world wide, baby!

We live in a small and crowded world, and there will be more diseases.
People who wish to live healthy lives are going to have to change their habits profoundly and permanently.
We ain't going back to the "old normal".
Deal with it, and kindly don't shoot the messenger.

Good that somebody is taking this seriously.

I'm right there with you

Not long ago I saw a Vankyo V620 1080p projector on clearance at my local Walmart ($139, some places it had dropped to $58, didn't think it'd hold long enough to get marked down again). I generally pass on Walmart tech and wasn't familiar with the brand but figured why not. If I don't like it I can just take it back. So far I've been thoroughly impressed with the clarity at ~10-12ft across on one of my walls. Still debating on 2 different rooms for a stationary display. It's been a long time since I've really looked at projectors because of their cost and short bulb life.

Also a few hours ago home theater speakers dropped in price on Best Buy and Amazon. Polk, Klipsch and Sony have see some items 50% off, not sure what else is in the mix. I know it's not the best stuff out there but it's better than say something like budget home theater in a box sets and I was looking to upgrade my speakers.
