This must be a confusing time for Catholics with all this pushing for inclusivity and humanity. I'm sure they'll get back to their roots after this Pope is gone, though.

If I weren't so triggered by the Old Testament, I might consider going and finding a Jesuit-led church to attend.

Of course my parish is full of redneck assholes who hate the Pope, so...I'll just stick with my Satanism. Maybe I'll pop over with five bucks to the local church and tell the priest it's financial support for Pope Francis' message...

Conservative prelates in the United States have openly lambasted Francis for his more liberal stands, including his support for same-sex civil unions that came out in a new documentary this week.

Wait until they read about the liberal guy called "Jesus Christ"!!

It has been a very long time since a pope has spoken "infallibly." It was 1950 and before that 1854.

Heck, if he does go infallible and the rest of the church objects, I'm sure that he will become an anti-pope. But I very much doubt it will happen.

By "back to their roots" you mean ignore the teachings of Jesus Christ?

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

---

My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, "You sit here in a good place," while you say to the poor man, "You stand over there," or, "Sit down at my feet," have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

---

I really don't get how you can call yourself "Christian" and say you support people like Trump.

I had one Trump supporter "Christian" give me the excuse "Well I am not christian in that part of my life" - Like you get to pick and choose when to be Christian.

To be ever so slightly fair (and, just to be clear, fark literally all conservative Catholic assholes), Church teaching isn't that the Pope is literally incapable of mistakes 100% of the time.  The Pope can issue statements that are considered infallible teachings, and this is called speaking ex cathedra.  The extremely vast majority of what popes do and say is not considered as such, though.  There have been issued only seven ex cathedra documents, and all of them were to codify or clarify Church doctrine.

This is why Southern Baptists stopped being Catholic.

Also why they are late to their MAGA rallies, keep buying blue lives matter flags and attend the weekly Klansmen meetings.

FTA: "In a surprise announcement from his studio window to faithful standing below in St. Peter's Square, Francis said the churchmen would be elevated to a cardinal's rank in a ceremony on Nov. 28. "

I'm not familiar with the nuts and bolts of the administration of the Catholic Church (meaning the practical side of it as an organization apart from what it is they represent).  When they say 'surprise announcement', is it that the announcement was itself a surprise or just the content (not the fact that he would be announcing 'something').  Because, I am picturing Francis having an 'ah-ha' moment out of the blue, and running to the window and shouting his news to whatever tourists and random priests/nuns/students happened to be below.

Civil unions aren't good enough. No second-class marriages.

Also, the Catholic Church can bless same-marriages without going against a single word Jesus said. And we don't have a problem multiplying; hell, Phillip Rivers and Mrs, Rivers alone are working hard to ensure the population increases.

I'm just poking fun at the conservative Catholics who suddenly have a problem with the Pope now that he's taking more liberal stances on things.

A Hollywood star-f*cker can't come close to the institutional knowledge of RealPolitik inside the Vatican.

No other organization on earth has that number of continuous years of maneuvering and backstabbing.  The Chinese pre-revolution government and Greek Orthodox church are close, but had interruptions in service.

Bannon will end up sucking the hind-tit he richly deserves.

Actually, conservative Catholics weren't exactly respectful of the infallibility of previous Popes.

If you're going Catholic, the underlying texts don't matter as much as current practice.

Not all catholic doctrine is based in scripture though. Quite a lot of it was borrowed from the corporate charter of the United Fruit Company.

He was made Archbishop of Washington (DC) by Pope Francis last year.

That basically means he'd decided to make him cardinal back then. No Archbishop of Washington has not been a cardinal except the very first guy.
