It won't be soon and when it comes out it will be phased in depending on risk factors. Let's hope that by that time, saner and smarter people are in charge.

When we eventually have a vaccine, the govt should offer a free lapel pin for going to the health dept and getting the vaccine. Then in the coinciding PR campaign, businesses who want to can make special offers to people wearing the pin. Then anti-vaxxers can sue, saying they are being discriminated against, and call everyone who gets the vaccine a "pinhead." Then people who get the vaccine can refuse to work beside or go to school with people who don't get the vaccine. Then gun play. I have to lie down.

Umm, our great president has the military ready to go.  It'll be everywhere on day one.  They'll just hold it in their hands and rub it on you or something.  There's a plan.  A very bigly one.

It was a bag of coins, for parking meters back when that was a thing. Nearly $10 I lost. Don't expect me to get over it in only 15 years.

Walmart. Make it free with the purchase of Little Debbie snack cakes or Twinkies. Then declare a national emergency that there aren't enough Little Debbies for everyone to get one. They'll be lining up out the door, just like toilet paper when it was "scarce" at the beginning of this stupid year.

Yeah, no one should be wasting time talking about "potential" future problems until they actually happen.  A few years ago people were like "What if another SARS happens?" and I was like "Whatever, man, we'll worry about it when it does!".  Bunch of worry warts.  Now people are complaining about the sea level rising and stuff but I don't see anyone's house underwater yet so who cares?

Pharmacies, hospitals, urgent care facilities and pop-up locations.

Half of us already get the influenza vaccine, doubling that doesn't sound like a major issue unless you want everyone to get the prospective vaccine at once.

Wait, is that what they expect to happen?

The idea of holding it back until we have a dose for every American is probably the most stupid thing I've heard. When approved you ship what you have, deal with massive lines and make more.

But then, people will notice that people are dropping dead and sprouting unwanted limbs from it, and quit taking it. Better to dose everybody and let God sort it out.
I mean, as long as we are proceeding on a basis of social Darwinism anyway.

This is stupid.

I'm sure we'll have something liquid and injectable in a syringe before then, and that it will be *labelled* a vaccine.  And if we're fairly lucky, it won't actually harm you if you shoot it into a vein.

As to whether it actually works as a vaccine, that's a different matter.

Release it to MAGATs first. They don't have any sense of self preservation, full disregard for their own safety and others, and love being in high exposure environments.

Large sample sizes, no ethical complications if they die and high exposure rates.

They can go from plague rats to lab rats.

Given the mobs of old people flooding Walgreens whenever we get the high dose flu shot, a high-capacity dart gun would be a Godsend.

We received around 1,200 syringes this week for... some reason. All our vaccines are in prefilled syringes and just need the needle. My boss says if the shipment was for a coronavirus vaccine and they have to be reconstituted, she's quitting.  Of course, the powers that be also decided we needed thousands of tablets of hydroxychloroquine...

If the hypothetical issue is that realities of production mean that the entire nation cannot be vaccinated within the same week, priorities will have to be set. Assuming one month to complete each phase, I'd suggest something like this:

1. All medical doctors
2. All nurses
3. All hospital staff, regardless of position
4. All hospital patients with no contraindications
5. All nursing home staff
6. All nursing home patients with no contraindications
7.All EMT's not previously vaccinated
8. All firefighters.
9. Everyone over the age of 70.
10. Everyone over the age of 60.
11. POTUS, VP, all members of Congress, all state governors, state legislators, Mayors, and city councilmen unless already vaccinated.
12. All daycare staff.
13. All PreK through 12th grade  school teachers and staff.
14. All college professors and staff.
15. Everyone over the age of 50.
16. Everyone between 40 and 50; 30 and 40; 20 and 30..
17. Assuming safety data has been continuously reevaluated over the previous 16 months and their are no contraindications, everyone age 12 to 19.
18. Assuming safety data has been continuously reevaluated over the previous 17 months and their are no contraindications, everyone age 6 to 12.
19. Assuming safety data has been continuously reevaluated over the previous 17 months and their are no contraindications, everyone age 2 to 6.

Apparently CVS and Walgreens have some deal with the gov't to do on-site clinics for high risk populations. I'll end up parked at The Manor copying down people's Medicare info for days, while my coworkers in the pharmacy keep telling people "no, not for you".

You left out the military.  Active duty armed forces always go first, for every vaccine.  Even above medical professionals & first responders.  You never know when something is going to mutate and become much more debilitating, thereby impacting national security.  IDK if the Reserves and National Guard count as part of that.

I've long since lost the source (but it was here on Fark, somewhere), but the Control groups from the vaccine tests also get a high priority.  IIRC it was right after medical personnel & first responders, but before high-risk elderly.  They stuck their necks out and didn't get a real vaccine, so they're owed, or so the explanation went.  Of course, they're not a very large group of people compared to the rest of the country, either.

2020-10-25 10:13:59 AM
Since it won't a A vaccine, but many, things will get complicated.  Some of the vaccines require extreme refrigeration, much lower temperatures than any current vaccine.  And then there's the nasal vaccine, I'm guessing they'll have to put it in poppers.

Good catch. I had forgotten our massive pool of lab rats. Obviously, the military would have to go first. Provided the side effects observed were nominal, we could then proceed with the rest of the list.

Nothing matters after that.

Germany is already organizing the distribution centers.  We have 60 of them nation-wide identified and the logistics are being set-up.

All the talk in the US this year has been about *when* a vaccine would be available ans who would get it.  I was talking with the bafflerette yesterday and we couldn't recall a single time the US news or web sites had spoken about the *how* of distribution.  All of the discussion or arguments seem to be about *who first* (I mean after the rich people).
