No subby, they're not. Even if they're not as good as chocolate chips, they're still an upgrade. I suppose you're going to talk trash about apple pie next.

The apples you see in the grocery store are made to look nice, transport well, and keep a long time. You'll have to look for them, but there are other apples that are grown specifically for eating, cooking, or cider that are worlds apart from these. Those are the apples you need.
Also, saying that you can ruin anything fall related with apples is like saying you'll ruin Halloween with pumpkins.

My grandmother is why I have trust issues.  She'd toss raisins into random recipes, where raisins had no place.  So, a chocolate chip cookie with raisins as well, expecting a rich chocolate chip, and bite into a fleshy bag of moist instead.  Maybe she'd just replace the chocolate chips with raisins.  A nice apple pie, nice, but no, third bite in, surprise raisin!

Over half a century later, I can finally enjoy an oatmeal cookie with raisins, but only if I bake them myself.  I associate raisins with random contamination items slipped into my food otherwise.

/Fark, it's cheaper than therapy.

Its the height of apple season here, every yard has a tree or two and most folks dont care if you pick a bag. My lady makes a teriffic apple pie with a crumb topping, really the hardest part is peeling and coring and slicing the apples so t he pie turns out right.

Apples are great.
Now cranberries on the other hand- well, there are people that mistake them for food.

Eh, I like raisins so I don't mind a surprise raisin in baked goods.

But they have no place in other foods. What's that awful "salad" of shredded carrots, raisins and mayonnaise? Barf. The school lunch at work sometimes serves a cucumber, carrot, ham, raisin and mandarin oranges in a sweet vinegar dressing. Sometimes with seaweed. Disgusting. I have to encourage the kids to eat it even though I would never put it near my own mouth.

I hate oatmeal raisin cookies. They were my Dad's favorite so I made them occasionally while growing up. I also made cinnamon bread, one loaf with raisins for Dad and one without for the rest of us. I would occasionally substitute diced apples for the raisins. That bread was really, really good. Never thought to add apples to the oatmeal cookies. Might have made them palatable. Oh well, Dad has been gone for 25 years now so the time for experimentation for him is long gone.

Apples go in cakes and pies, not cookies.

If you dump the raisins and use dried cherries soaked in rum instead, they're actually very tasty.

When apples are cheap I usually make some Worcestershire sauce.
Yes - apples. And other things, but apples mostly.

I've had a variety of home grown apples, and honey crisp are still the best apples I've ever had.

To be honest, the texture of the oatmeal in a cookie is almost as bad as the raisins so I really should change that to read "I hate oatmeal cookies". I have made some with oat flour instead of meal that were tasty.

No recipe but the trick is to grate the apple before its all cooked together - the apple cooks at the same time as the oats :) touch of cinnamon and you're all set

There is nothing bad about oatmeal cookies.

They are simply worse than most other cookies. And they are still horrible for you.

I pass up most donuts and other snacks for the same reason. Getting fat isn't great, but getting fat off of mediocre food? Hard pass. You can keep your soda pop, your shiatty workplace sheetcakes, and your oatmeal cookies.

:)

Your post reminds me of the supposed trend to add raisins to potato salad. I first found out about this culinary atrocity in an SNL sketch and I assumed it was a joke about the reputation white people have for bland cooking but it's apparently a real thing. Who is the sick bastard is behind this idea?
