From DesertGeek.
just got the answer to this: they're using the Universal Coordinated Time clock to run the race, which never shifts an hour. So it is a 24 hour race.

This is a cool race!

Spa is such a cool track. I'd love to catch a race, any race, there some day.

Fun fact: Renger van der Zande  in the #29 Acura NSX is a friend of this farker.

Yeah, they said that on TV. My guess is that a few teams raised a fuss about doing an extra hour and the organizers gave in.

I'm back watching after running some errands and watching some Premier League. Is it me or does the track seem darker? Like without having any fans there, they decided to keep the lights for the stands off.

The lights that normally light up the grandstands aren't lit, so that makes a big difference. Also, interesting is that the race has almost 2 more night time hours than daylight hours. That could affect driver fatigue.

That is interesting. Keep in mind that in a normal year, this race is in late July so there would be something like 15-16 hours of daylight. Instead, they'll have something like 11 hours.

For comparison, the Daytona 24 hours is roughly a 50/50 split

I have to say that was an amazing pass for the win in the Xfinity race.  Don't know how Burton made up that much ground in the final corner to snatch it away from Gragson.

And just a FYI, both the F1 and Indycar threads are in the queue for tomorrow. Indycar faces the tough hurdle of NFL competition.

I'm a fan of these GT races, but I am kind of bummed to see no Corvette C8s in the race.

I'm really looking forward to the F1 race tomorrow. They're saying it's 50/50 on rain for the GP.

Good day for sports tomorrow for me. The morning will be heavy with the F1 race happening during the Vuelta a España and the last stage of the Giro d'Italia. The Indycar race is a big must over any football with me. Go Dixon!

I assume the teams knew about the lights being off but would that impact race strategy or how good the view is on the track itself? Also, when did they make the switch to 24 hours from 25 after the articles on it?

I am always happy to see a new circuit on the schedule and it would be glorious if it was a wet race.  Teams not having a notebook to work off of and having to figure it out can make for unpredictable results.

I haven't heard if the gt3 spec c8 has been made yet. It really should be in that grid.

I can't think of when I've seen a Corvette in the GT3 race, but I am pretty new to watching GT3 racing.

I think it may actually be better for the drivers. The lights in the grandstands, concessions, camp fires, and other peripheral lights may be distracting/disorienting to tired drivers.

I'm kinda looking forward to Cup next year.  Two new actual road courses (COTA and Road America?) and two less boring 1.5s.

I don't knw what you're talking about. Should be sunny and 50°F in Aragon, Spain tomorrow for the Grand Prix.

Oh... 4 wheels.

He announced that he's got Carvana has his sponsor next year. Sounds like he really will just run road and street circuits in 2021.

Back at the race, the car in P9 lost his front right wheel. At least he made it back to the pits.

Correction, he was P4 (car #88) when the wheel blew at it looks like the top of the Kemmel Straight

Just past half way and it's starting to bucket down

Yea, it is very wet and you aren't going to last long on slicks

So much for the 5% chance of rain as per weather.com. I love it!

2020-10-24 10:43:12 PM
This might be among the most difficult conditions anyone could race in: pitch black darkness, raining, spray adding to the visibility issues

And things are getting a touch feisty in the Bus Stop

2020-10-24 10:47:49 PM
Oh, if you knew when the race was supposed to start and are wondering why, at 10:45 PM EDT; there's still 11:15 left to race, that's because the start was delayed after an incident in a support race damaged a barrier. The repair pushed the start back 30 minutes.

2020-10-24 11:02:54 PM
The pit lane has a blockage and they've thrown a full course caution to clear it

Sounds like a car couldn't make the pit lane turn on the inside of the La Source and is blocking the lane

I like that no one knows who caused it

The video of the restart is amazing! Too bad I'm fading and won't make it too much longer.

We have reached the "announcers getting stupid" stage of the race.

8 hours, 20 minutes to go and it's still pitch black out there

2020-10-25 1:56:37 AM
Light starting to come up, #35 has had a big crash. Bumper and one tire off on one side of the track, rest of the car off on the opposite side (8:05 left, just before 2am EDT)

2020-10-25 2:21:33 AM
"you could have confused a stupid man with that"

I think that's a good bed line. I made it to daylight again. Enjoy the end of the race if I'm not up in time

2020-10-25 2:22:26 AM
Oh man, and the leader crashes RIGHT as I am going to close the thing
