Oh, and should have stayed at the scene.
That can really count against him.

Usually. But we don't know what he altercation was about. I assume they knew each other. The shooter might have had reason to think others would be coming there for him, in which case it was safer for everyone that he not be there if and when they show up.

I wonder about his mother calling the police and not him. Maybe she did the right thing, maybe he wanted her to. Lawyers, by having the mother call as his proxy, might he have avoided a potential admission of guilt claim by not speaking himself? He at least had a little more time to get his head together--call a lawyer or whomever--before speaking on the record.

To those of you who said he should have never left the scene, ask yourself why.

He didn't need to stay and personally, with the way cops are handling shooting scenes these days, knowing you that you were only defending yourself, I would have left too.

(Especially if I thought maybe the attacker had friends that might be right around the corner.)

Calling by proxy made it so that the cops could still do their job and the arrest could be made civilly, without any of the chaos, without incident.

Everyone stays alive, no one else gets shot.

This is a stupidly written article surpassed only by the risible comments of some in this thread.
From what was written  this shooting was justified and his decision to not wait around for his assailants friends to show up isn't a bad one. It's not like this is a vehicular hit and run, farkers.

Dryad: Dork Gently: "murder scene"?  Bad subby, no cookie.

This is Fark. Subby only needs to know that one of the people was a gun owner, and therefore a murderous inhuman monster.
Since he now knows who the bad guy is, the other one therefore must be the good guy, sadly murdered while minding his own business of innocently engaging people in unprovoked attacks.

Subby here.

First of all, I am a woman. It's intriguing how often I have to say this on Fark. Apparently, I post like a man or....something  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

Secondly, I concede that "murder" was inaccurate. I wasn't trying to prove some anti-gun owner, lib, lib, liberal point by saying murder. I was just in a hurry when I wrote the headline and I didn't proof it as thoroughly as I should. If I had, I probably would have replaced the word "murder" with "crime".

Finally, I was born in Pontiac and I know where this liquor store is, which was my primary motivation for submitting the article in the first place.

Surely at carry class they work in a mention about sticking around if you have to shoot someone?

Billy Liar: I'm still not sure whose items were paid for; the murderer or the murderee.

Okay, this kind of clarifies it.
Police say surveillance footage shows the suspect, a 26-year-old man, paying for his items when the victim came in and started punching him.

Protip for budding journalists...Don't rely on pronouns when there are more than one person of the same sex in your story.

You are suposed to stick around.
They send people in with more guns, and they take your gun away. Then you have to defend yourself against them. They can rough you up. Even shoot you dead, if they even say that they thought you might have a gun. License notwithstanding. Then they keep your gun.
The gun you have a permit for.
That you had to prove that you kinda had a need for.
And, from the recent environment, probably still do.
You can buy another one. But that will take 3 business days.
In the meantime, who ever wanted you dead, all they had to do was send a stooge in to get shot.
Once that pawn is in play, you are disarmed. Now stooge #2 knows you cannot legally carry, and you are less likely to have a gun.
So if the cops don't get you, the better paid stooge will.
There are 5 stooges.
They are not all related.
