At least it's a start.

OK, 'Murica, let's make this a contest.

The "demographics are changing," is a nice way of saying, "the old people are dying."

If the GOP ceased existed on a worldwide basis thatd be swell. They need to go back to their roots, in rural Pakistan where the talibans also are.

If the religious nutters on the different teams were ever able to band together the rest of us would be doomed.

They have so much in common but since they don't use the same word for god and have a different skin tone they want to kill each other instead.

There really is not much of a republican party in a few other states either... I would say about 44 to go.

Alert me when 75% of marriages in Alabama are interracial.

Then I'll have hope.

Hope so.

I'll believe it when I see it.  Even then, they're not getting more than probationary inclusion in the Republic Of California And The Cascades.  If that.

Republican party disintegrates.
Sane Republicans join the Democratic Party. Democratic Party shifts to the right.
Progressives split off the Democratic Party to form their own party.
The US can go back to having a reasonable right wing and an actual left wing.

There it is. Your roadmap. Now go forth and wipe out the Republicans, America. That is your first step.

Are there a statistically significant number of sane Republicans?

I said this before in another thread.

Democrats should embrace bipartisanship on one condition. The Republicans who wish to cooperate and stand on that record have to stop calling themselves Republicans.

I think this is a sufficient symbol of conciliation for the people who are likely to be conciliatory. And for all those others who insist on being Trumpians, they would never go for it and they would become the new GOP.

So eventually you end up with Democrats, some moderate party in the middle, and the whacko GOP. This would suck a lot of energy from the Trump faction and it would establish a new basis for reconstruction of American politics.

SMART OR FUNNY THIS IDEA everybody.

He's right about things frequently, but his interpretation as to why and what to do to fix it is frequently wrong.  That said, his conclusion is pretty accurate(if not blindingly obvious to anyone since the party shut down Bush's amnesty plan)

The corporate wing of the Democratic Party won't need too much of a push to turn them into Rockefeller Republican clones. So you'll be alright.

Having at one point been a Republican, I, personally, would hope they go back to being something more along the lines of loyal opposition asking not if something could be done but should it be done. Theres something to be said for politely requesting someone think through what they're doing in a constructive way and be open to potentially less drastic or less intrusive alternatives.

I'm not going back. There's been too much damage wrought by their greed, intransigence, and wholesale rejection of objective reality. Less intrusive options have all become half measures now that will only prolong and generate their own distinctive malingering harms instead of the short sharp shocks that must precede our restoration. Government must now step in and begin a process that will likely take an entire generation to reforming and rebuilding our economy and society.

I would hope however, in some form, that a coalition can be created outside of the Democratic one, hopefully free of the bigots and religious zealots that now infest the carcass of a once respectable institution.  An institution that hopefully, can serve well to give caution to such metamorphosis and prompt us all to take care we do not fall into a trap of our own good intentions.

You know, Trump happened because the Tea Party took over the whole GOP like Frankensteins monster. The Tea party were always candidates who could never actually do anything. They were easy marks for all kinds of shenanigans. I know of some GOP people who have been ousted, primaried, forced out of positions by dirty tricks, etc. Many more have gone along with Trump because he wins.

Assuming a Biden win, extending some kind of hand to the other side is going to make everyone feel good, but at the same time, you do not want to let any of the Trump people off the hook. How do you do that? Let the opposition self-select. Invite them to be part of the solution instead of being part of the problem. They do not have to be Democrats, but they do not have to be Republicans either, and working together, they can get something done.

Maybe it is a simple path to making things functional again and marginalizing the obstructionists.

Considering that we can't go one week without a news story coming out of Arizona about some racist asshat doing racist asshat things - and usually involving the police and/or government employees - I seriously doubt that the Republicans will abandon the place.  Heck, it may become one of their last strongholds.

That is, of course, unless the GOP decides to stop pandering to racists.  I'm not holding my breath.

The whole Hunter thing makes me laugh. A few years ago, the murderer and his daughter went to China. She came back with a bunch of trademarks. The rest of us, especially farmers, got screwed by tariffs. It's all there in plain sight. However, these idiots care more about some BS made up crap that, even if true, amounts to a tiny fraction of what the most corrupt family ever in office did for themselves at the cost of all of us.

Oh, there will be a Republican party. The two major American parties are far too institutionalized to just vanish.

The GOP will just no.longer be a credible party of government on the federal and state levels.

With all due respect, fark that. The democrats have caved and lost ground any chance they have had for the better part of 40 years. It's not being responsible and constructive when the other crowd see it as being pushovers and never give ground themselves.

Dems need to play hardball. If they don't, we'll be back into this shiat in a couple of years.

I mean, I wouldn't mind there being a party that every now and then asked if the cost/benefit of a particular regulation had been thought through properly, or debated if a problem could occasionally be more efficiently addressed by the marketplace rather than centralized planning.

But it would be nice if they didn't happen to be power-drunk racists, homophobes, and misogynists; with a wanton disregard for experience, expertise and science; and hell-bent on voter suppression.

When I say that I am for the square deal, I mean not merely that I stand for fair play under the present rules of the game, but that I stand for having those rules changed so as to work for a more substantial equality of opportunity and of reward for equally good service.Wikipedia

During his second term, Roosevelt tried to extend his Square Deal further, but was blocked by conservative Republicans in Congress.ibid

The press was using the term "Square Deal" as early as 1871 in a New York Times local news article that reads "Many of the inscriptions on the front of trucks, drays, and other vehicles are quite amusing. On one there is a picture of a hand containing four aces, and over it is inscribed square deal." In 1888, in "letters from the people" (letters to the editor), one writer signed off as "Square Deal". In 1890, the phrase started to appear in headlines, e.g., "Give China a Square Deal" and "Not a Square Deal".ibid

Now, pay attention, "objective reality"...

Why would we be doomed? If they all want to live in North Beardistan and fark their cousins and not eat bacon or shellfish or listen to music while sticking with the pig-iron level of technological sophistication and innovation displayed thus far ... I'm okay with it.

Gotta be strictly optional though. Dems may have a super majority in CA, but I wouldn't say Republicans are non-viable here. We have some of the biggest douchebags choking up congress. Nunes and McCarthy right now. Issa was from here as well as Duncan Hunter. That's a pungent group of turds in the punch bowl. And they are quite adept at using the petition system to drum up bullshiat bills for the state's ballot. Remember, Californians (by way of Republican petitions) were the ones that torpedoed affirmative action and got a law against same sex marriages when couples were challenged existing laws as being against the state's constitution.

So, our state and national legislative members may be dominantly Democratic, but the Republicans are still a viable force for ratfarkery.

I don't think anyone actually believes that Georgia will go Blue, and most people are skeptical that the Florida state government or the Supreme Court will allow Florida to vote Democrat either, so what are the chances that Arizona, sandwiched between them, will vote Democrat either?  It's still Pennsylvania or nothing.

Saaaayyyyy has anyone told the GOP in California.. specifically, the ones living in the areas of California which wish to "secede"... that Trump has been jacking around with federal recovery aid for their communities yet?

If the Democrats get in charge, they should actively milk the racist asshole snowbirds for money. Like a MASSIVE property tax nominative rate hike but a sliding rate that lowers the effective tax for every consecutive month the house remains occupied, as determined by the average of 12 months of utility bills

It's free money, from people who won't be able to vote you out. AND it scores points among locals who are tired of seeing Wisconsin plates clogging up the streets in the winter
