COMPLETELY AGREED. Watched it today, you can't really say Rudy is a pedo because everything about the scene showed her as an adult, but he is a creepy gropey bastard as evidenced by him grabbing her lower back when he knew he was on camera. There is a big difference between pedo and gropey which is important to remember, Rudy is the latter not the former.

Enjoyed the film, obviously not as good as the original but the sequel made clear they couldn't repeat the original because Borat is so recognisable now. The (24 year old) actor playing Borat's (15 year old) daughter was brilliant, I hope she goes on to a big career after this.

That's the problem that's being overlooked here.  It's not the underage thing (there's zero indication that she was up until Cohen comes in and announces it), or even the gropey/pervy thing (problem, granted, but not the big one).  It's that he eagerly went for such a flagrant, obvious honeypot.  This is a major official in the current administration, particularly with Donnie's "generous" interpretation of security clearances, and it never even occurs to him that this could potentially be any sort of scam.  Thank fark this was a jumped-up hidden camera prank show, rather than an actual attempt at gaining kompromat.  How many times has he fallen for this that we haven't seen on camera yet?

Interesting point. There are a lot of differences between Rudy's lapse in judgement and Bill Clinton's lapse in judement. Both occurred with women of consenting age however, so that's not part of their lapse in judgement.

Bill Clinton's poor judgement was to presume that a young woman who was politically supportive wouldn't say something about their dalliance, that was always going to happen and there was always a solid chance he'd be caught out whether it be weeks or months or years after the event.

Rudy's poor judgement was right in front of him: cameras. He's on camera and actually signed a waiver to permit the footage to be screened as I understand the story. That's massively more naive than Bill Clinton. Whether you regard that as a positive or negative (there are arguments to be made either way) is up to you I guess.

First of all, Rudy can fark off and die.

That said, I just watched the movie too. The funniest thing I've seen in a long time. I'm still recovering, it broke me...  Now this scene, yeah I think he was tucking his shirt in.  And the pedo angle doesn't work either as while we the viewer know her as a 15 year old girl, the scene certainly doesn't set her up as such, nor does she look like one. The only mention of her age is when Borat comes in to save the day with a hilarious quote that I don't want to spoil, but probably already has been by others.

All that said, he DEFINITELY thought he was in with a chance, and she led him on the whole way.
As stated above, the real story is that he is so easily succumbed to a honey pot, and therefore is a massive security risk.  I think Sacha made an error in saving the day a few seconds tóo early, but that is very easily justified given the circumstances.

Saw it today, really enjoyed it but not as good as the original film imho. She's in the room with a camera crew conducting an interview as a professional journalist. The actor playing Borat's "15 year old" daughter is actually 24 and looks it. The only suggestion she is underage is made by Borat well after Rudy has put his arm around her lower back and lay back on the bed tucking in his shirt.

There's no reason Rudy would have believed her to be underage. His gropey behaviour and sexist treatment of a female journalist are misogynism, not paedophilia, as near as I can interpret it. It's still awful and it indicates Rudy would be an easy mark for any foreign agencies who wanted to compromise him on dodgy sex grounds so that should be the story here, not Rudy is a pedo.

I am a straight guy with a dick who agrees that Maria Bakalova stole the movie through acting talent and general attractiveness but I'd never fall for her pretending to be attracted to me because (like Rudy) I'm ageing and nowhere near her ball-park. That opens up a host of ethical questions.

Let's set a stage here.

You have a young-looking but adult woman. Not uncommon, I had a good friend in college who looked 16 when she was 22. She got carded if she even thought about alcohol.

You have a much older guy you're going to set up to see if he'll take the bait of possible sex with said young-looking woman.

If things happen (be it Giuliani simply masturbating, oral, or actual penetration), it's a murky area legally. We see this with child pornography- even if the person filmed is of legal age (or doesn't even exist at all, with some animation), there are courts who will pursue charges based on what they appeared to be.

Consent has as its foundation knowledge and understanding of the action and consequences.

Saw the film today. The scene in question was nothing illegal, nothing Clintonesque in terms of stains anywhere but certainly extremely weird in that there was obviously a camera crew in the room.

Would you pat a girl 40 years younger than you on the lower back for no apparent reason while cameras were rolling? It's a weird thing, and it makes one wonder about Rudy's judgement in cases where no camera crews are present. Don't focus on the sensational headline, the actual story is how farked is Rudy's judgement that any of this occurred and the only possible motive seems to be him getting his dick wet. I can't think of a comparable situation in US political history, other than perhaps the Dubya administration admitting there were no WMD's despite their best judgements which coincidently favoured Halliburton's financial agenda and at least in that case there was an obvious financial motive.

COMPLETELY AGREED. Watched it today, you can't really say Rudy is a pedo because everything about the scene showed her as an adult, but he is a creepy gropey bastard as evidenced by him grabbing her lower back when he knew he was on camera. There is a big difference between pedo and gropey which is important to remember, Rudy is the latter not the former.

Enjoyed the film, obviously not as good as the original but the sequel made clear they couldn't repeat the original because Borat is so recognisable now. The (24 year old) actor playing Borat's (15 year old) daughter was brilliant, I hope she goes on to a big career after this.

I agree the Biden optics aren't great on the hair smelling front.That said, Trump's 'pussy grabbing' comment was even worse because it confirmed what he's like beyond wondering.

It's amazing to the non-US world that the Dems couldn't find anyone better than Biden to be their candidate. At a time when the US economy has experienced a massive downturn, the Dems should be a shoo-in yet Trump is still within sight of victory. Where I live, nobody is voting for the 78 year old when it comes to significant leadership and that's just pragmatism, not ageism. The non-US world doesn't get what's happening here.

At the risk of sounding like I'm remotely defending Rudy, the "She's 15" thing was meant to be a joke for the movie. At no point was he ever led to believe she was anything other than the age she looked. He's still a vampire sex creep, but at least in this case he thought she was easily of age at least. Exactly. That's the story the crowd obsessing about the pedo stuff are missing. If Sacha Baron Cohen's one shot at this scene managed to get Rudy flirting outrageously then putting his hand around her lower back with a camera crew rolling, then the obvious question is how compromised is this guy by foreign powers using centuries old honeytrap techniques where the witnesses aren't actually right there in the room?

She doesn't need to be 15. A fairly cute 24 year old will do perfectly well. Exhibit A - the Borat footage.

Saw the film today and the simple answer is no. She was there to conduct a prearranged interview for a foreign media network, she was in a business suit and had a film crew in tow, her credentials checked out. The actor playing Borat's daughter is 24 and looks it (although there's the occasional 15 year old who could pass for 24 too admittedly).

Rudy was bad but misogynist bad not pedo bad.

I don't disagree with a single point but the fact is there's an election on in a couple of weeks and these details are getting no oxygen at all. It didn't go great but you have to balance ideal timing with being able to keep the caucus together. Pelosi wasn't perfect but it was about as good as was going to happen in that respect.

You glossing over this isn't surprising because it undermines your point, but frankly that particular issue amongst the litany of things that should have torpedoed is presidency wouldn't even make the top 3 right now. Your read of the room vis a vis American politics is pretty off

You need to know the Limbaugh model...

The following rules apply no matter the topic:

1 - It must made to make liberals look bad. Either as hypocritical, stupid, laughable, or to be mocked.
2 - It must imply that conservative views are ranked higher and therefore superior to liberal views, even when something reflects badly on conservatives.
3 - Distort all topics that conservatives are against by using hyperbolic language so that it can be mocked.
4 - Lead listeners to come to most of these conclusions themselves without directly telling them how to think.

Here we have an excellent example of the model at work.

Imply that liberals are accepting of any sex, including that which conservatives see as deviant (rule 1).
Name the topic in which you are about to distort.
Cement the deviancy of sex.
Imply that conservatives because they can use common sense to know when consent is implied and therefore superior by making liberals have a zero tolerance policy on consent, AND that the consent topic leaves zero room for tolerance to begin with. (rule 2)
Using hyperbolic language to describe how liberals would react to hearing that someone might have implied consent but didn't *give* consent. (rule 3)

So I think a lot of it comes down to demographic shift, our U.S. equiv of a caste system and the different factions within Democratic party.

The caste system essentially has previously sorted by wealth and whether you are white.

Globalization(off shoring), robotics and similar trends have farked everyone not "wealthy"(which are mostly white but not exclusively).

That means everyone that isn't wealthy is rightfully pissed off.

Where things get a little unique is that the U. S. is undergoing the transformation from a majority white country to a country that doesn't actually have any single demographic majority.

What that means is that a lot of mostly old white people are not only pissed off because they got shafted by the rich, but is suddenly getting put on equal footing with their non-white counterparts because white culture is dominating less.

Which brings me to the odd position of African Americans in the Democratic party.

They don't really have options when it comes to political party. You are either supporting the Democrats or you are supporting the party of Segregation. This means that as a voting block they have a massive influence in the party AND they aren't as liberal as white democrats Overall because their (mostly old) conservatives don't have anywhere else to go.

So to win the presidency you needed someone that doesn't piss off the fading, old, white, midwest majority.

To win the Democratic primary you need to win over conservative southern African Americans OR younger voters from all groups AND show that you have a chance to win the presidency.

There wasn't anyone that had a good chance of getting both young voters and older, white voters. So unsurprisingly the coalition of older voters like older candidates.

No one else in the Democratic party had as much credibility with older African Americans while also being a candidate that older whites can "feel good about ". So we got Biden.

Fair enough. I expected the system to either work or prove its failure in a way which would be relevent come election time. You're telling me I was asking for way too much. You're probably right.

If this was Russian intelligence instead of SBC, the scenario would play like this:

1. Set Rudy up to be "interviewed" by a young, pretty journalist, who could plausibly be perceived to be of legal consent age.

2. Through flirting and sharing of alcohol, the girl lures Rudy back to her bedroom, that happens to be loaded with hidden cameras.

3. Rudy proceeds to get down with the get down and actually has sex with the girl; but instead of SBC busting in and yelling "She's 15, too old for you!", it's a couple of scary looking goons.

4. Said goons calmly explain to Rudy that the girl he just banged is 15 years old and, lo and behold, here's her I.D. that proves it, and now they have time-stamped video proof.

I just watched it and didn't hear it mentioned. The interview just started with her telling him that he was her hero, she gave him a book and then started asking about china. Her age comes off as a bit ambiguous  but she is drinking and appears to have a crew (at least Sasha as a sound guy). He still comes off as a creep with expectations when in the bedroom scene.

If the republican party wasn't so racist and resentful of minorities, they would have the older african american vote because many african americans are religious conservatives. Church and religion is a big part of their life if not part of their identity.

I'm a "Bernie Bro" because I voted for Sanders in 2016 primary and in the 2020 primary despite the fact that I voted straight Dem last election and this election. (voted by mail early both times).

The lesson I learned is that for the majority of the country the Overton window has moved so far to the right, that 90's republicans are seen as "moderates" and that while Bernie has people nodding their heads in agreement with what he says on just about every single issue, they just can't vote for a "socialist" no matter how much the policies would make their lives better.

OddLlama: I just watched it and didn't hear it mentioned. The interview just started with her telling him that he was her hero, she gave him a book and then started asking about china. Her age comes off as a bit ambiguous  but she is drinking and appears to have a crew (at least Sasha as a sound guy). He still comes off as a creep with expectations when in the bedroom scene.

I'm not disagreeing with you. More or less we are waiting for some of the electorate to "age out" so that younger voters aren't vetoed by religious views.

I was just trying to provide some context for an outsider. I don't believe the demographics situation are quite the same in a lot of of Western world(from a tipping point perspective) and the dynamic based on the fallout of slavery is also pretty different from most places.

On Biden, the fact that he was the VP for Obama sure doesn't hurt. Not saying the other dynamic isn't there, but being the VP in a historic presidency can give you a bit of a boost.

Yeah, no. No one else is trying to spin this in favor of Giuliani, and I'm not even that sure The Hill is actually doing it, as I don't see it on their front page right now. Mainstream sources also aren't taking the bait on the Hunter Biden bullshiat.

The only possible out here is that she never claimed this until Cohen burst in, which seems unlikely.

Saw the film today and the simple answer is no. She was there to conduct a prearranged interview for a foreign media network, she was in a business suit and had a film crew in tow, her credentials checked out. The actor playing Borat's daughter is 24 and looks it (although there's the occasional 15 year old who could pass for 24 too admittedly).

Rudy was bad but misogynist bad not pedo bad.


This is how real kompromat actually works.

Saw it today, really enjoyed it but not as good as the original film imho. She's in the room with a camera crew conducting an interview as a professional journalist. The actor playing Borat's "15 year old" daughter is actually 24 and looks it. The only suggestion she is underage is made by Borat well after Rudy has put his arm around her lower back and lay back on the bed tucking in his shirt.

There's no reason Rudy would have believed her to be underage. His gropey behaviour and sexist treatment of a female journalist are misogynism, not paedophilia, as near as I can interpret it. It's still awful and it indicates Rudy would be an easy mark for any foreign agencies who wanted to compromise him on dodgy sex grounds so that should be the story here, not Rudy is a pedo.


FoxNews thinks that saying that Rudy was engaged in a different flavor of predatory sexual behavior means that everything he did was ok.
