Roe will be overturned. It's all but guaranteed. So wealthy women will still have abortions, but poor ones will wind up in one of hundreds of Kermit Gosnell butcher shops around the country to die of sepsis.

Tie highway funding to a state having safe and reasonably access for women's health care. States could have their own law but that doesn't mean the majority of the US should not be able to express displeasure by not giving those states federal money.

If this is the plan they may have played themselves. Biden is set up (albeit with the always lame "study panel" excuse) to move forward with court expansion after a provocation. Overturning Roe v. Wade would be the perfect such justification politically for adding four new Supreme Court justices.

Not that I want that to happen. Such a ruling would be the most harmful since Citizens United and contrary to what a lot of liberals say, would not be the end of the anti choice movement.

Can we just reduce SCOTUS justices to 7? And remove the last two?

COVID. No health care improvements. No stimulus. No minimum wage increase.

For this?

The pulse of America is NOT ON ABORTION.
There is something more going on: a full-on coup of the legal system.

It's a money maker for the GOP.
Add SCOTUS seats, add PR and DC, and boom. Never have to worry about this shiat again.

I still think Republicans are making a tactical mistake by getting Roe repealed.  A lot of single-issue abortion voters may simply stop voting.

Look at what Republican judges have, and haven't delivered.  Economics are first and foremost in the minds of Republicans.  Their justices come through for them on that over and over, year after year.

If their non-rich base ever gets abortion outlawed, well that's a bonus.  Abortion is the only issue that seems to warrant media coverage, but Republicans are busy delivering to the guys who write the checks.

Nine new justices, double the size of the court, ranging from liberal for one to the libbiest libs that evar libbed for the others.

Also, you're absolutely right. They want to outlaw birth control to ensure they have a steady supply of undereducated / uneducated people for their slave class.

It really depends on how many of the GOP voter base are adamant on this or are simply cultists who would vote GOP even if it costs them anything.  Either way this is a poor decision that is going to result in a lot of woe and the Republicans do not give a shiat.

Economics have no pushback. Liberals in the US are ALSO neoliberals.

The fact that THE POPE is now more forward thinking than the Republican Party and EVERY SINGLE CONSERVATIVE JUDGE re: gay marriage says so farking much. And yet, after abortion, that is next.

It's always been about power and control. Republicans desire power to control everything they hate and fear. Which is all non-Republicans, minorities, women, and people who don't have sex with who they demand they do. And that means turning America into a Christian theocracy with the government everywhere. "Party of small government", indeed.

They'll move to Obergefell v. Hodges next.

And then, and then, up until they reach Gibbons v. Ogden.

It's a mistake to think they'll stop at Roe v. Wade. After that falls the next battleground is the states, where they'll try to outlaw abortion in as many places as they can. Not to mention the fight that will be a federal bill to criminalize it.

Handing these assholes a victory like that will not make them go away. It will embolden them and make them even more dangerous.

*Anything* the Russpublican haters-of-America want from Infectious ACB, it matters not one bit if she's on the court before or after the election.

With one exception: If the party of outright treason attempts to corrupt the vote counts and have the SCOTUS steal the election for one of the worst monsters in American history.

Next on the chopping block:  the ACA, access to contraceptives, QUILTBAG rights, divorce, desegregated schools, public schools, EMTALA, workplace safety, the federal minimum wage, labor unions, women's suffrage, black suffrage, the actual definition of "American citizen," the right to privacy, environmental protection regulations, what's left of our public safety nets, etc., etc., ad infinitum.

Folks, I hope you enjoyed the latter half of the twentieth century and the first couple of decades of this one.  Because it looks like the next few years are going to look like someone reversed the film at eight times normal speed.

The "pro-life" movement in America does not want fewer abortions, because the policies that lead to fewer abortions have been known for decades and they are against all of them.  Comprehensive sex education, universal access to prophylactics, and a social safety net robust enough that an unplanned child does not ruin a persons life are all factors that reduce abortion.   Their opposite increases the number of abortions, and the "pro-life" movement supports them all because they want as many abortions as possible, as long as they are illegal and unregulated and therefore likely to cause injury to the women that had sex without permission from the leaders of the "pro-life" movement.  The mistresses and daughters of the leaders will always be capable of visiting civilized nations that throw theocratic assholes like the "pro-life" movement out on their asses when it comes to policy, but they want to maim and kill as many poor women as possible to satisfy their sadistic urges.

What will happen is they'll have to stop voting for (R) because he's pro-life.

They may well find another reason. But it's going to knock the "I dont like X or anything he stands for, but he's against abortion WHAT CAN I DO" voters for a loop".

I don't think she'll outright overturn Roe, she'll just but the "substantial burden" test from Planned Parenthood v Casey.  States will be able to place whatever arbitrary hurdles they wish in the way of abortion providers as long as they have the patina of medical value.  Want to operate a clinic?  You need admitting privileges at a local hospital, you also need a clinic doors wider than your hallways and taller than your roof, and a waterslide in the foyer.

That test is already in place.

If Roe gets overturned, nothing will substantially change, except SCOTUS will have washed its hands of it.

No they won't.  Guns are legal; "gee, I guess the fight's over, guys, let's go home."

Most of our fights are about what one side or the other stands to *lose*.  No one even hopes to gain anything anymore, other than the folks who hired these politicians

91% of abortions occur by the 13th week.  By 15 weeks, the vast majority of pregnant women are looking forward to having their child.  They have come up with a list of names, starting thinking about nursery colors, and are excited about seeing their little bundle of joy for the first time.  I know that the dumb Mississippi law contains some language for fetal abnormalities and emergencies, but such a law doesn't need to exist in the first place.  Women aren't carrying their babies for 4 months and then saying "nah, rather not be pregnant."  My wife had to undergo an abortion at 18 weeks.  It was the worst day of my life and one that I will never, ever, fully get over. We had a name, first baby outfit.  Those went into a grave.

This will happen regardless because Congress has zero input on Supreme Court decisions.

Congress being 110% Democratic (or Republican) has no impact on how the justices ultimately decide a case. Congress could stand at the doors screaming "SAVE ROE!" and the vote could still be 9-0 to overturn if the Court wanted it to be.

Our nation needs to consider changing what it charges for legal fees.

Abortion being legal CANNOT HARM YOU. A legal challenge to an issue which CANNOT CAUSE PERSONAL HARM should receive a higher cost, to file and ESPECIALLY to lose.

Nobody except child rapist loving Republicans (in the US) believe a clump of cells is a baby.

+1 Smart click.

It's about control and subjugation through punishment.

Comes from a religious based patriarchal mind set that percieves a woman as property of her family before she becomes property of her husband.

Not so fun fact: Early rape law made rape a crime against a man's property and not a woman's person.

It's never been a pro life movement just an anti women's rights & pro Christianity based law movement.

Everyone knows that but the foam-dripping maniacs who think babies are being aborted two days after birth because the mom is to busy to have babies right now.
