...I don't see any downside here?

"California and Beverly Hills have been treating folks that create jobs badly and the tax rates are unacceptable," Gene told The Wall Street Journal. "I work hard and pay my taxes and I don't want to cry the Beverly Hills blues, but enough is enough."

The only thing you create is the shiat you drop in the toilet, shiatbag.

Fifty years ago someone may have cared. We'll find someone not so f*cking greedy to live here instead. Don't let the state line hit you in the ass, boomer.

We managed to get rid of Ben Shapiro AND Gene Simmons.  Things are definitely improving here.

What do we have to do to get rid of the rest of the right wing douchenozzles?

I mean, COVID is a heavily deflationary event. Now companies can be located anywhere, same with staff. No need to be in Cali because it is the tech hot spot with high costs of living/land/taxes. No better time to flee than the present with blown out budgets and higher taxes coming down the pipeline.

Simmons is moving because like many elderly retirees they downsize and move. Normally to AZ or FL but gene was never normal.

I'm not going anywhere but hey, anyone who wants to go live in a shiathole state to save some tax money is more than welcome to.  Chances are we will be better off without the selfish assholes around.

This is how an 8 year old views the economy.  Zero understand of the importance of proximity to an educated workforce and prototyping.  Nope.  To an eight year old most tech jobs can be done remotely, there's very little value to working within close proximity to your colleagues and highly valued employees will be totally fine with moving to BFE.

Well, damn it, he's moving to the Pacific Northwest.   He won't like it much here after a while.   Seattle ain't his kind of town.   Maybe if he stays on his "estate".

But Washington doesn't have an income tax, so I can see the attraction.

I agree. I was being slightly more general. Google for example could create a robotics company based in Cali for the people that need to be in close proximity with one another to do the testing required. The HQ could move to idk, Texas for the remainder of the company for the programmers. etc. That way the only profits subject to Cali tax would be the robotics arm, not the profits generated in Texas. Then have all the tech employees live whereever the fark they want to, but payroll might be a biatch here because of each state's rules. But they could shed some of the tax rate.

Everything is based on incentives. It is like a weight balance. Cali could be starting to tip where the incentives to stay are starting to not be as good as leaving. But those are case by case.

The cost of housing needs to be considered. A place being more desirable is expressed in cost. 1 million buys not much in coastal california. A million  dollars can buy an awesome home with acreage a lot of places.

I have worked for the fruity computer company for the last   6 years and have never set foot in an Apple store or Campus.

If i wanted to I could.  And at my level I could move from senior support to most departments and still work from home.

I have been in 4 highly cohesive teams and we have all worked closely and well together and I have some great pals from it.

Now I will transition to either site support engineering where I have to investigate one of os x issues for guys on the front lines and work with a team to implement global solutions but still work from home.

I get some people work better face to face but I have been in IT for 25 years and have worked in a fair am

I am a social butterfly and I will never return to an office or a commute and I like living in BFE.

I'm confused.

As a citizen of Washington myself, Resmuglicans have been telling me that my state has had the worst tax burden in the country for the 25 years.

Is that not true?

(It's not.  We're about 25th-30th)

Numerous folks do this sort of thing to avoid taxes.  Not sure why it's news, or more importantly, why people get offended at the notion that someone thinks a given area isn't worth the cost of living.

When you're trying to impress your bona fides upon other right-wing idiots, it's important to ingratiate yourself to them.

See, he was living in California. Trump doesn't like California. They're mean to him. They're Democrats. They're trying to fix shiat, and taking money from the rich to do it. So, if you want to show your allegiance to Trump, you move out of California - and you make a big farking production of announcing that you're doing it because you're either too rich to be sucked dry by socialists or too woke to be oppressed by liberals.

It's going to be hard on Gene when we follow suit - and we are following suit, fairly shortly - because he'll then have to buy some compound in northern Idaho, just so he can claim he's "stiggin' it to the libs" once again.

It'll be fun to watch, I guess, but it's about as meaningful as a dry fart at a chili cookoff.

He throws out the whole job creators thing.

What jobs is Gene creating right now?  When he toured, he had employees.  Unless he owns businesses, the only employees he has are the ones working in his house and yard.

I'm not sure we need to consider people with servants as 'job creators' who need tax breaks in order to be able to afford their servants.

it's funny, whatever it is, far enough down the line, everything costs something.  if you don't pay for it, you don't get it.

"Job creators" aren't even a thing. It's a term made up by right-wingers too make rich people sound important. Like they're employing people out of the goodness of their hearts and not getting anything out of it

He probably saw the upcoming tax increases the state wants (among them a tax on wealth that you'll be on the hook for for ten years even if you move) and decided to GTFO before things got even worse for him than they are now.
