Trump's been great for Canada.  When he started, Canada had a trade deficit with the US.  Now we have a growing trade surplus.  Our farmers are doing very well on precisely the same crops that American farmers are letting rot in the fields.

With US tariffs on things like raw aluminum, companies are choosing to do more of the manufacturing process in Canada to bypass it.  Simultaneously, specific targetted Canadian reprisals to the tariffs help Canadian companies while raising Canadian tax revenue.  US tariffs hurt US companies and are really not that big of a deal to Canadians.

TPP means an economic boost to all signatories.  Trump tried to get the US back into TPP after turning it down and was told to f$ck off.  An incredibly stupid strategy especially considering he was planning to start a trade war with China.

The dirty pipeline leaking all over the US is great for Canada and helps us sell much more of our dirty oil to China while protecting us from having to hurt our own environment and pristine pacific coast.

Muslim ban means that for any sporting, academic or commercial events that will have true international flavour, people are picking Canada over the US.

Canadians want Trump to lose but not because he is bad for us.

Hot take indeed.  Hot, steaming, and curled off right in the middle of the dinner table atop the mashed potatoes.

Honestly, how unbelievably moronic do you have to be to try and make a case for Trump to Canadians?  Members of the nation that has closed its borders to the US for the last three months, the nation that is currently in its second term with a liberal government (granted, liberal minority this time around and with a bit of a scandal threatening a snap election mostly drummed up by the right, but still), the nation that has now gotten rid of both Trump Hotel boils from its landscape.

The only Canadians rooting for Trump are the same elbow-licking morons staging anti-mask protests and holding car shows in the street without any social distancing or masks.

I assume TFA is written by some jingoistic Canadians looking to be the preeminent economic and military power in North America.

I didn't read the article.  My point is Trump has objectively been good for the Canadian economy in the precise areas Trump was responsible for (trade, environment, tourism etc.) and in the same ways he hurt the US.

Now, ultimately, a more successful and economically healthy US, would be better for Canada.  I'm not a fool.  Canada's economy is fully dependent on the US.  Trump's stupidity gave us a few wins over the US but ultimately, Canada is f$cked if the US continues to swirl down the bowl.  Trump is bad for Canada and the whole world (except for places like Russia, North Korea and Saudi Arabia).

2020-10-22 2:17:44 PM
Follow-up.  Trump is linear and transactional in his strategy.  He sees everything as deal where only one side can win if the other side is screwed.  That is so f$cking stupid but my point is, based on Trump's criteria, Canada won and the US lost.  In reality, we both lost.

Yeah, this is really stupid.

But, it makes sense if you can't understand the suffering of others and only care about short term quarterly gains.

Many good points, but Trump did more or less force Bombardier into giving away the brand new airliner it had developed to Airbus, who now sell it as the Airbus A220. Airbus are now marketing an exec jet version which will now compete with top end of Bombardiers only remaining planes, the Global and Challenger big exec jets.

They can keep us gross plague-o's out so long as he's in charge since it's clear that our government is going to go for herd immunity if he wins.

Since that will never work, they get to live an American-free existence, which I hear is lovely.

In a game theory way sure. The more the USA goes down the toilet the more will be available for everyone else. But that's a good way to get nazis on your border and the lax environmental rules will speed up the heat death of everyone.  Also another president Lysol term might get you invaded by America. America is weird right now, look at me and tell me that isn't possible.

Thanks for pointing out the Harper connection. I tried reading it but it got so stupidly thick that I had to stop. This a notch denser than Theissen's BS.

MrShowRules,sound take through and through.

No one, except those coopted or sucking their own tool aid has yet attempted let alone succeeded rationalizing the disgrace we've suffered since brutally getting schooled on Hillary not being the right candidate.

We'll get through this abomination, no matter how long it takes, but there's no polishing a turd. That said, Fump's advocates are definitely perfectly qualified for their jobs.

2020-10-22 3:10:51 PM
"Trump is a stronger supporter in principle of free markets and private enterprise than Biden. " is laughable.  Republicans used to always be better for Canada than Democrats because of those items, but Trump is in no way a free market, private enterpriser.  He is completely transactional.  Canadians know what's in their interest and at least 90% of them want no part of Trump's world.

Isn't global warming kinda a net gain for Canada? Northwest passage opens, the inhospitable north becomes more hospitable, and refugees fleeing the rising waters bring their expertise and labor with them. A big problem we all need to work on, but mostly for people not in Canada, right?

Yep. The only people who want Trump to stay in power are people who are interested in a weak (and potentially nonexistent in a few more years) United States.

Yeah, a 10-15 year net gain before extermination.  And during that time, all the people in the South will be moving North.

Here's a better article that gives a better snapshot.

https://www.macleans.ca/politics/how-much-do-canadians-dislike-donald-trump-a-lot/

Canadians support Biden by a HUGE margin.  84% in favour of Biden nationally.

The only part of the population that doesn't flat out hate Trump is really Alberta Conservatives.

And even Alberta Conservatives are 60% in favour of Biden.

McInnes is still a Canadian citizen.   Canada can argue that Cruz is an American.  McInnes, even though his  Proud Boys are violent thugs, in the United States hasn't bothered to become a US citizen.   Mark Steyn, too!
