First item on the agenda: change the name to something that doesn't sound like it belongs in a toy store bargain bin.

2020-10-22 9:41:46 AM
First move... eliminate the goddamn thing.

2020-10-22 9:46:55 AM
Its not a separate branch and its not new, but other than that....

2020-10-22 10:13:16 AM
Move the space cadets into an existing branch, and publicly shame whoever who came up with the name Space Force.  Maybe we can bring back the stockades for this one.

2020-10-22 10:49:12 AM
It'll fade away pretty quickly. I don't think it'll get outright shut down immediately, just bled to death 'last one out hit the lights' style.

I concur. It was a stupid Trump attempt at making history. Trump already achieve worst US President ever. That's enough for the likes of Trump.

Change them to the Sewer Force and throw them down the drain.

2020-10-22 11:28:23 AM
Disband it and fold personnel back into the Air Force?
/Then reestablish it Joe's Rocket Rangers

2020-10-22 11:28:42 AM
Send Space Force to find and kill God?

2020-10-22 11:28:47 AM
Doesn't the United States Space Command already exist? Correct if I'm wrong but isn't 'Space Force' just pointless pageantry for little Donnie's sake?

2020-10-22 11:28:53 AM
Eh, Trump will shut it down out of spite if he loses anyway.

2020-10-22 11:29:28 AM
Shut it down, honor our commitments to not militarize space.

Agree.  I was coming here to say "coherent plan?  Just dissolve it and reassign them to other branches."

Just spitballing here, but I don't know if we need camouflage uniforms in space.

It was this and only this. Donny just wanted a book somewhere to day "Established by President* Trump in 201X." He had (has) no plan beyond that.

FTA: "The American Foreign Policy Council convened what it characterized as a "closed-door" and "scenario-based simulation" to understand how the Biden administration would think through important space events."

oh yeah, they did a pretend Alien Landing scenario. I am totally cool with that; have my sign painted welcoming our new overlords and everything!

Yes, yes it is, as of the signing of the National Defense Authorization Act for 2020 on 12/20/19.

Since it is a separate branch by law, Congress, not Biden, would have to pass a new law to eliminate it.

Didn't even know SpaceForce was a new pen and paper RPG. And they are already doing LARP. Fascinating!

It's been upgraded to a separate branch by law, but it doesn't look like much else has changed.

Yup.  Along with other Trump items such as trying to buy Greenland, trying to get himself on Mt. Rushmore, and trying to get a wall built.  I'm sure there are other examples.  All items to try to have himself remembered in the history books, just to stroke his ego.

Like I said, pageantry. There was no real reason to split it off from the Air Force.

Maybe representatives from Space Force and Cyber Command can have a slap fight.

2020-10-22 11:41:45 AM
Space force?
Yeah, let's talk about that.
Facts.
The weaponization of space is a BFD.
Trump announcing his Space Force initiative came at an interesting time.
With the introduction of satellite killers by Russia and China including their ground based lasers designed to destroy sattelites in near earth orbit it can reasonably argued that a new arms race has begun albeit unofficially.
Trump basically made it official.
But never started racing.
So... here's me hoping Joe's guys get the full implications of what I am saying here.

And if he weren't such a short-sighted dumbass he would have realized a proper pandemic response early on could have made the US come out of this smelling like roses, and made him the hero of the century. But nope, he had to be a shiathead.

Depends on whether Biden's going to start quoting Reagan like Obama did.

Reagan wanted Star Wars, remember?

This country is too conservative.  The Military is regarded as "the sound of freedom" by too many assholes here.

No way we're going to take the high road at this stage in our civilization.

So much for Type 1 Civilization aspirations.

There's no reason for it to exist. It's pulling valuable resources and funds away from much more pressing and beneficial things.

Shutter it. Just like we should shutter ICE, Department of Homeland Security, and Guantanamo Bay.

You mean like calling it The Air Force Space Command?

I mean, if they want to get creative I guess we could call it Stargate command.

I dunno.  It weirdly seems to have bipartisan support in certain parts of Congress.

It's a lot easier to stop something before it starts than to kill it once it already exists.

A command and a branch are two different things.

Commands include personnel from all branches.

It could still be killed on the vine. We got time.
The bipartisan support is typical of politicians looking at "space force" money pouring into their own states, etc..
