Fundamental misunderstanding of the economy.  Unemployment is caused by the virus.  It is not caused by the lockdown.  Until the virus is contained, the economy will suffer.  If you'd like to die, that's fine, but plenty of people have years left and would rather not roll the dice.

I mean, that's fine I guess.  You're 83 and don't care if you get sick or die.  But old people can still transmit.  Would you give a sod if by you getting sick you also cause your grandchildren to get sick and die?  Personal risk is not the only issue here.

The chances of anybody under 18 dying from this virus is a number so close to zero it should be treated as zero for purposes of any risk calculation.  The chances of anybody under 50 dying from it is not much higher.

The real chances of death, in the 25% or so range, is from people her age.

For the 1 millionth time, dying from Covid is FAR from the only negative outcome! post-covid symptom is going to be a thing likely for the rest of my life, people dealing with chronic ailments caused by the ravaging done to their organs and nervous system by the virus. That will cause pain, suffering, lost productivity, and direct costs to society through medical treatments for a long time. This isn't just about old people dying, it's about a really, really nasty transmittable disease that is going to cause lifetime problems for ~10% of people who catch it. Oh, and there's some evidence that it's hiding out in nerve cells like chicken pox, which means we have another timebomb waiting possibly decades down the road, who knows what this thing will do when it re-emerges, chicken pox is fairly minimal when you get it as a kid but shingles is supposed to be one of the most painful things imaginable.

And it took many decades to come up with an effective vaccine against shingles. Which I got last year, Shingrix. It's two shots, several months apart, only for The Olds, and can have some severe local and systemic reactions, but it's infinitely better than developing shingles.

I was responding to the previous poster who was mainly talking about death.  But the chances of somebody under 18 getting seriously ill but not dying is also a number very, very close to zero, and those for somebody older than 18 but younger than 50 are also quite low.  As for long term consequences, nobody really knows because there hasn't been a long term yet; it's pretty much all speculation.

This is an old people's disease for the most part (with the exceptions of people who were already ill for other reasons and medical personnel that got repeated large exposures from patients they were treating but didn't wear proper PPE, especially the second).

People who are saying it's worse than it really is are just as bad as those saying it's not as bad as it is.

You've misread something.  Perhaps it was this?
"Approximately 10-15% of cases progress to severe disease, and about 5% become critically ill."
WHO September report

What you're talking about happened with SARS, many flus, and others.  She's also 83, what you're afraid of is something she lives with.   She's just tougher than you are.

Okay, you old broad, speaking as someone who most likely has a lot more years left. Go out and get Covid. And when you feel sick, go home and stay there. We have enough testimonials from people saying that the disease is far worse than they thought and they are sorry they infected and killed friends and family members. So stay home when you catch it, your arrogant and pissy attitude means you don't deserve the medical care and expense that will be used to save your life. We will save money and the hospital bed for someone who got infected by dumb shiats like you.
