I used to think of myself as "conservative." You know, "socially liberal, fiscally conservative," but kept realizing I didn't agree with their positions on most issues. The dual falsehoods of "that's 'off budget' " and embracing the Tea Party wrecked their chance with me.

My maternal grandfather was a southern Republican back when there were very few of them. I never really knew how my dad felt about politics. My mom was just a political junkie. I'm pretty sure she voted for Nixon in 1960, but also loved the Kennedys because she was into fashion and appearance*. I know she voted for Carter, because Georgia. After her second marriage, she and my step father were mostly Fox News viewers, though mom still watched a lot of CNN, because she had known a lot of the people who worked there when it started.

*If my mom was a "Britcom" character, it would be a mixture of Hyacinth Bucket ("it's pronounced 'Bouquet'") from Keeping Up Appearances and Edina Monsoon from Absolutely Fabulous.

More realistically, she was probably parroting her dad's views on politics because she was basically apolitical and figured her dad knew what he was talking about. As someone from a red state with a lot of friends barely in their 20s, that's really common.

Most of my friends finally wake up over LGBT or family planning issues, although some of them start dating dickhead 20 year olds who had Ayn Rand inflicted on them in English 101 and go the weirdo hardcore libertarian route.

People can change their minds.

I grew up in a multi-generational conservative family, I was an NRA member for most of my youth. Now I'm very liberal, so is my immediate family. For me personally, I changed after expanding my education and realizing that I had very little in common with the party. My Dad changed after he went to college.

Sometimes you grow up in a bubble, especially if your family is involved in a religious community (I grew up Mormon- though no one in my family remains Mormon). I also grew up rural, so guns, god and country were the most important aspects of politics. If you never leave that bubble, you never have a reason to even consider changing.

Having President Harris and the Democrat legislature pass a law to hunt down and purge Republicans isn't victimizing them.  It is self defense.  The repubican held states are currently using bio terror weapons to attack the democrat citizens of the US.  They are infecting their own republican operatives, and sending them out as bio terror weaopns into blue zones.  They are using illegal weapons.  They are trying to kill us.

At the very least, the government needs to put all of the republicans in camps, and sterilize them, so they cannot propogate their hate and violence genes.  If we have to we can take DNA samples from them and freeze them so that in the future, when we have the tech to eliminate the white genes of hate and rape, we can clone a better version of them, and make it not "genocide", for the people who think genociding the republicans would be "bad".

Hitler would be fine, as long as he keeps the tax rates low on higher income individuals.

because having money is what insulates them from the actions of the hilter they elected so they could keep their money.  it works right up till you run through your money or hilter runs through his enemies list and then you are boned but they don't think that will ever happen.

She's from Kentucky; it's no small feat to acquire working brain cells there.

Kentuckians (Cleanth Brooks and Robert Penn Warren) taught generations of American college students to read.

6 funnies. You poor illiterate doofuses.

Understanding Fiction & Understanding Poetry were standard college English 101 texts for over 20 years. Written by Brooks and Warren. We're all like that here. Hunter Thompson was from here.

We may not have a lot here, but what we have is (as Spencer Tracy said) "cherce".

Basing the average citizen of a geographic location by their more outstanding former residents is disingenuous and ridiculous.

"How dare you say Kentuckians are ugly! George Clooney is from Kentucky!"

George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Jennifer Lawrence, Tom Cruise ...

I'm sensing a pattern here.

TDWCom29: shut_it_down: TDWCom29: Gooch: Have fun paying that obscene 62% income tax rate when Biden wins!

Even if this was true (it isn't), imagine being upset that rich people would have to pay that much in taxes

The only way I can resolve it in my brain is that they think of rich people as gods. Lesser gods, but still gods. They truly think if they make the gods happy, then the gods will shine their beneficence upon us. They will create jobs and build infrastructure and make everything wonderful! They fear that taxes will anger the gods, who will then retaliate against us.

I mean, you're trying to exaggerate and yet you aren't too far off

It's kind of crazy. I'm going to be thinking about this analogy all day, now.

Guys, guys, let's get back to her butthole. It surely stinks less than her political views.

I must have been asleep that day. Any chance we can still see said butthole?

Smart then, putting eight "legs" on the sphincter.
