The thing that gets me above all is the whites pulled biplanes out of their hangars and firebombed black people and their houses. The whole thing is insane.

As one person put it: this is that history that you guys are so concerned about getting erased.

So that's where Barr got the idea in June in DC, albeit, he held back on the firebombing.

I just spent a depressing several minutes going through the comments on that story on Fox. Most of the commenters either believed the 1921 incident never happened, was overblown, was the fault of Black Tulsans killing innocent white civilians, etc. A large fraction laughed that "discovering bodies in a cemetery is news how?" Several admitted that some killings might have happened in 1921, but Black people have made too big a deal about it to deflected from their own racism against white people. It's absolutely astonishing.

These are the people who aren't going to disappear even in Trump is crushed in the upcoming election. They're just going to get a little less brazen about their racism.

I think people who do that are closet conservatives.  It's like the minister that accidently goes to the gay bar and then has to let everyone else know how those horrible people are going to hell.

How blinkered must someone be to insist that racism and acts of oppression didn't take place a century ago, quite apart from today?

Hopefully these victims can be identified and properly be laid to rest.

Well, this is one of those places where 'separate but equal' gave the African Americans some economic upward mobility and I'm going to assume that riled the whites who saw black dollars going in to black stores, black banks, black restaurants, black coffee shoppes, and, uh, that's about it.

So, given the opportunity to fly over Black Wall Street and drop a few bombs on those up-it-tea people who think they can live life like a white person, who could pass that up?

Would have been funny if the whities in the biplanes go jumped by a black WW I ace and got shot down.  Maybe crash land right in Black Wall Street.  That's how I'd write the movie.  If DCU, Black Lightning Senior zaps 'em.  If MCU, then Iron Man.  Star Trek Universe (Non-Kelvin) "Gabriel" Sisko with a phase rifle.  One shot.

I thought this was a repeat, but it looks like they're confirming their theory from July about a possible mass grave. I hope they find relatives of the victims, give them a proper burial, and ask the victims' relatives how to honor them.

The UN defines a criminal mass grave as holding 3 or more bodies of homicide victims.

With zero proof of who's in them the news feels it's fine to identify who's in the coffins, wow.

I'm sure there'll be post-mortems to discern if there is any sign of trauma consistent with the massacre. They should also be able to identify textiles from the period. Dendrochronology could be used to date the timber used for the caskets and other dating techniques for the remains themselves could be used to pin down the date of death. DNA might offer a match for descendants of the victims, in which case the bodies should be matched to the death certificates issued in 1921.

Must be an election year.

Archaeology isn't normally a political matter.

The headline is just a little misleading, they don't know who the people are, why its not getting more attention

"But investigators have not confirmed whether any of the remains belong to the victims of the 1921 massacre. "

Also what we think of mass graves is not usually people buried in coffins in a cemetery.

I assume the only thing in that time frame that would have ended up with 10+ people dying around the same time would have been flu or murder though

Just because they aren't piled like cordwood doesn't mean it's not a mass grave.  They were buried together, unmarked, unrecorded, and unidentified.  That's what makes it a mass grave.

Someone was trying to erase these people from existance.

The headline jumps to a conclusion that's probably right, but there's no doubt it's a mass grave.  If no one is aware of any other event that could have resulted in a mass grave being made it's probably a safe assumption.  At least for now, hopefully, we don't end up finding out that there was aother event that resulted in a mass grave.

yay another alt right zombie. Obviously trolling but I will give you 1 bite because this is an important point.

As someone with family who was buried in one of those mass holocaust graves. 10 coffins buried in close proximity, unmarked, and from the same event constitute a mass grave in my opinion.

in conclusion, please FOAD with your bullshiat.

Don't spend public money glorifying traitors to the country in the public square, but spend it on these efforts. My dad is buried adjacent to a national war cemetery (in the service member overflow. We filled it up since he died with veterans, and have half filled the new giant state veterans cemetery with the WW2/Korean/Vietnam/Afghanistan-Iraq war dead). I played there a bit as a kid. There are confederate dead there. I'm okay with that. Any confederate statues pulled down can be piled up there, if there's room. But in the public square? fark that noise. My old hometown, where my dad is buried, has a lynching stone it has yet to claim at the lynching museum. A retired history teacher is on it. A pair of men were ripped out of jail, hung, and their bodies partially burned on the square. Their corpses reportedly hung from lampposts downtown. An old neighbor of mine told me people rubbernecked those dead until they were eventually buried. I wonder if there are any lynching postcards (a real thing) featuring those murders? My town had, for small town back then, a large and prosperous black community. Black owned businesses largely serving the black community were thriving. One black businessman even supposedly co-owned the street car company and an electric utility. That lynching happened 10-15 years before Tulsa mass murders. My town went from around 20% black residents to less than 5% in a few short years. It remained well over 90% white through the time I moved there and moved away. Never would have heard that story had I not been taken out of classes once a week to go to a gifted program where we got guest lecturer to by commie college professors. Brought it up to my by then elderly neighbor, who'd been a little girl when it happened. I'm sad but glad Tulsa's history is getting revisited.

Using the language of the time when papers used the term "race riot", as they used it with "race movies" it was meant especially to designate actions by black people. Look through the media of the time... they went to great lengths to describe the alleged actions of the Black man which precipitated the actions of the white mob, and scarce mention of the atrocities inflicted on innocent people by them. This continues today in news reports of Black people carrying food (looting) after a hurricane while white people carrying food is "finding" or "salvaging".

No, it's a different idea of what a mass grave is.  When you think mass grave, do you think bodies bulldozed into a big hole, or people buried in coffins in a cemetery?  While 10 people buried together is technically a mass grave, this story is not the definition of mass grave most people have.

Consider the number of people believed to have been killed in this riot, and it is surprising that these dead even got caskets. It's likely there are still hundreds of bodies yet to be found, unceremoniously dumped in pits. The UN has their definition of what a mass grave is, and we go with that. IDGAF about what "most peoples" definition is. Any attempt to lessen what happened there is describable only in language I cannot use on FARK.

I am astonished that Fox News actually called it a "race massacre" in their headline to the original FA, rather than "race riot". "Pogrom" is pretty accurate, if we extend the common/original definition to include any relatively defenseless, minority group.

I don't care if they refused to call it what it was back then.  It's not a term that should be isolated to one race's behavior.  Today when a riot is racially motivated we call it a race riot regardless of who the participants are.  White people rioting, killing, and burning black people just because they are black is most definitely a race riot and a race massacre.
