Rise?

leeksfromchichis: Rise?

It got great coverage on YouTube. And by great, I mean Comedy Central Roast of Quibi. But publicity is publicity. And it conveniently was during their free month trial after launch. And then it disappeared into obscure and niche Streaming Meme territory.

And you can only watch it on your phone.

In 2 minute chunks.

To be released weekly as a series.

Very Smart and Experienced People - one of the titans of Hollywood, and one of the "titans" of industry* - joined forces to waste TWO FARKING BILLION DOLLARS failing to build and sell a media streaming service during a pandemic (when everyone's staying home).

// for comparison, Netflix' stock went from like 350 in March to about 500 now

Will it star a sex doll because I like Anna Kendrick.  Wait, she was not the title sex doll in the Quibi short?  Sorry, must have been my gynoADD, I am easily distracted around the ladies which usually is not as bad as my gynoAutism which makes me act quirky in their presence.  They say the only cure is to get laid so I fear mine is fatal at this stage of my life.

Yeah, but wasn't it a streaming service built around bite-sized content meant to be watched on your phone?

Makes sense that it would fail in a pandemic when everyone is home with every better alternative.

Yeah, the whole point was bite-sized chunks for people who are very busy doing a lot of stuff.

A pandemic meant everyone is home bored out of their minds.  The situation they were trying to cater to disappeared.

/That's not to say I don't think it was utterly stupid and that they were way too late to the game.  I'm just pointing out what they claimed they were trying to do.

Somebody should invent some features that allow you to watch a long-form show in smaller chunks. Perhaps call them something like "pause" and "resume".
That would be a real game changer.

Don't think Quibi even made it to their IPO date before failing?

Which is still a failure - once the pandemic hits, stop forcing things into the 7-minute window (which, let's face it, was a dumb idea anyway).

Adapt to the circumstances, and maybe don't burn through your first billion before you have a working product that you know people like.

When I heard about it, I thought it was a stupid idea. So I'm surprised to see it isn't doing well, as I'm wrong on everything when it comes to predicting which tech people like.
