'80 . And I'd stay in that timeline so I'd be dead before 2019

2003-2005 or so, despite the Iraq war and all the other problems of the time. The internet and politics were less insane and there were no farking smartphones. Yet almost everything else from medical tech to transportation was nearly as advanced as it is today.

probably 1995, heavily leverage microsoft stock, gain enough money to offer to loan Donald Trump a lot of money for a future presidential run and then organise the meeting on the 98th floor of the north tower of the world trade centre. I think you all know when.

Ironically I think that would save more American lives than stopping 9/11.

1969 - I would not have decided to play DIII football in order to be able to skip the college PE requirement; second place, 1996 I would not have answered a personal add for a woman who became my second wife and who turned out to be a crook (drama teacher who was pretty good at the playing a role and lying thing).  Actually, come to think of it, the three ruptured disks I eventually got from the football weren't as bad as the second wife so flip those.

Mid 90s so I can buy into all the tech stocks, become mega rich, sit on the boards and influence their policies away from pure evil and use my money to influence steal back the 2000 Florida election and swing it to Gore.

2013 so I can warn myself not to lose my job that paid well and to not get fat after the man Iove died unexpectedly. I gained over 75 lbs, moved back home, and am struggling to lose weight without starving myself.

Honestly, as a thought experiment, I can see nothing but trouble in going back in time; can you warn people about the Twin Towers, or Bloody Sunday, or any of the other tragedies big and small without being labelled as a kook? "How do you know?" "What are the details?" You might be able to invest well, or will your presence alter time? I'd love to see some family members again, but would they be thrilled to see some possibly familiar middle-aged person claiming kinship? It's like the meme that you can go back in time and tell the younger self some line that's supposed to change things, or be something they really needed to hear; but that would inevitably change the person going back, so.

I just treated it as if I could whisk myself away to a different time with zero knowledge of the future. That way I don't have to divide by zero or whatever.

I do not think I actually would.
If I could, I might go back to ask some family members some of what they know of the genealogy that I am missing in the family trees, or to talk to all the people who have died since I was born, but generally, I do not think I would travel in time.

If we're talking transport my current chubby old personage back, probably 83 and straighten out my underachieving, too timid with the ladies, younger self.

If 'current me' gets to inhabit the body and relive the life of 'then me', I'm going to relive the entire 1990s.

Man, another chance at all the opportunities, adventures, concerts, girls, the bands I played in, investments missed. Yeah, I'd really prefer if it was the second scenario.

Especially the girls

Fair play, but my brain keeps pointing out things like disease immunity (mine and theirs), and so on. I have a history background, and trying to fit in to a non-contemporary culture (even one closely related to the one you come from) would be a very difficult task. Are you using things in the correct fashion? Do you know the social mores? What transferable skills do you have to earn a living, do you speak the language (and if not, how quickly can you learn?). In some cases it'd be a bit like being like one of the refugees in Greece or Italy or Ireland.

I'm not much fun at parties, either, I suspect.

I would love to go back to February 1964, when The Beatles first came to America.  Just to be a part of all the excitement (I wasn't born til '66).

November 11th, 2006 so that when I get asked to stay the night, I do this time and hopefully can say good-bye properly.

Well it can't happen, at least not before I'm dead, which should be in about 10 yrs I figure. So maybe I'll wait until I can be resurrected with the jeebus people, then enter into my own kingdom on earth and rule like a potentate and invent a time machine to go back to 2007 to prevent myself from joining fark and wasting $5 a month.

My mother took my two older sisters to see them in Aug 22nd 1964. I was at home probably reading comics.

March 19, 1982. I would persuade Randy Rhoads to not get on that plane.

September 27, 1986. I would charter a jet for Metallica.

December 8, 2004. I would shoot that piece of shiat Nathan Gale who stole Dimebag away from us.

May 18, 2017. I would prevent Chris Cornell from taking his own life.

January 1979, I would properly celebrate 2 Steelers Super Bowl victories, and fastidiously avoid 3 certain females.  Bonus- Pirates win the 1979 World Series.

I'd go back to elementary school and tell me to ignore all those assholes that insisted that Marie Curie was an aberration, stealing her husband's name and work.

I don't care that stopping little me from buying into that lie would alter my present circumstances.  Geek girls can do science all day long now, but back then, nope, gotta get married and crank out kids.

Um, sometime 1947-48-49, when music was just getting good.

Sometime in September 1978, so I could ask that girl to dance.

May, 1975. I'd tell young me NOT to go out with that girl. "Believe me, you'll thank me later."

We could go to Dallas in November 1963, stand on the grassy knoll and shout "Duck!"

...I'm sorry, I must have bypassed my good taste chip.

(Seriously though, I wouldn't stop major events. I'm of the "Fixed moment in time" line of thinking. Kill Hitler as a child? Someone else gets the ideas. Stop the 9/11 hijackers from coming to the US? Another cell gets in and grabs planes. Instead I'd probably go back to 1982 & get a decent job...then buy/store all the toys that became money makers after 15-20 years & stay out of history's way.)

Depending on how you feel about American exceptionalism, with no WW2 the United States isn't a super power - certainly not nearly as quickly as it did - and the dollar would not be the world currency.

If we staying in the 1900s, a person could clean house on all the most toxic people.

Before Hitler come the Americans who pushed eugenics which inspired the Nazis but also all sorts of forced sterilization in the U.S.  These notions were used to oppress non-whites all over, including stealing land from native Americans in Oklahoma who became rich from oil, as a reason black people couldn't vote... all sorts of legalized discrimination and oppression.

Then take a swing at the group that taught the Kochs and a bunch of other people their brand of Libertarian nonsense (and the Kochs while we're at it).

The idiots who invented Trickle Down economics, the Laffer curve, the guy with the No New Taxes pledge, Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrinch.

Hell, stop Reagan from getting elected and you might stop global warming before it became catastrophic.  He defunded the $10 billion Carter had put into renewable energy research.  Which means maybe we want to go back and stop the oil companies from pushing the anti-climate change crap, the lie that plastic is recyclable, and from shutting down public transportation to push car buying.

If im going back to relive a great year then it would be something in the late 80s early 90s probably.
Maybe go back to 96 and take the trip with my dad to Yellowstone.

If im going to better my life today then I would go back just 2 years ago and warn myself the high paying job disappears and to save my money

other wise Id jump forward a couple weeks and get Powerball numbers.
