It'll probably be as kid-friendly as the original series from the 90s.

Plaster Lion: It really just looks like crap. The bar for entertainment has lowered so far that people will glom onto anything that reminds them of their childhood.

I mean why are you complaining. It's on HULU. You literally have to subscribe, create an account and pay for it.
Yet you're complaining.

This isn't even like sad coffeeshop hipsters "I don't even OWN A TV" level of smug.

It's like complaining about books on the shelves at libraries and book stores. THAT YOU DON'T LIKE.

GET OVER IT. IT's not even close to being edgy now. It's just being a jerk.

Bslim: Wonder if they are bringing back some of the other characters? (no Slappy Squirrel please)

No Slappy. The writer/voice artist didn't sign on. Doesn't really look like anyone but the Warner Brothers and Sister, and Pinky and the Brain are there this time out, which is fine with me.

Anyway, elsewhere, that "never mansplainy" line has really triggered the type of snowflake who uses the term "triggered snowflakes" unironically.

I thought it was funny.

capngroovy: There are some bits that do/don't translate to 2020.

Don't:
Slappy: those that recall the era she "harkens back to" have moved on. Basically VH1 "We Love the 30s"
Good feathers: probably replaced by a more... contemporary...film/series. Stranger Wings?
Rita and Runt: unless Lin-Manuel Miranda replaces Bernadette, nah
Hip hippos: sucked then, suck now
Hello Nurse: #hertoo

Do:
Good Idea/Bad Idea: this and Wheel of Morality could go in forever
Chicken Boo: sure, Drunk History has taken over this niche, but can Derek Waters be a chicken?
Celebrity slams: the rise and fall of Paris Hilton and the Kardashians were post-Animaniacs 1.9. Survivor was just hitting it's stride. That's 13 epis in itself

So I'm glad they are focusing on the core. I wish there was overlap with Top Gear at it's prime.

Don't:  Buttons & Mindy.  Not bad, exactly, but extremely one-note.

If there was only a Warner Media owned streaming platform? Maybe the could call it Max Plus HBO or something?

Shhhh... Don't tell him about SpiderMan, Universal, and Marvel.

This would be a new licensing deal, not like the film deal Sony and Marvel got into with Spiderman. The last place Animaniacs ran was on Kids WB   and is distributed by Warner Television.

It just shows you how incompetent AT&T is at things: a beloved property gets licensed out to their competitor rather than trying to use it to get more people on their own service.

Episode one, Mindy tortures Buttons in the usual way.

Episode 2, Buttons lets Mindy die horribly. End of series.

Also, Hulu announced this Animaniacs deal in January 2018. HBO Max wasn't a thing until October 2018.

So, when the deal was being made, AT&T didn't even own WB, there was no WBAT&T streaming service on the horizon, and Hulu was interested.

Not to say AT&TWB aren't generally idiots, but this case isn't part of that idiocy.

AT&T proposed a merger with Time Warner in 2016, and was blocked by a DOJ lawsuit until mid-2018, when they won the suit and finally bought AT&T.

AT&T bought Time Warner in 2016.

TDWCom29: Or the fact that for years and years WB owned Animaniacs was run on Fox!

After it ran on Fox it ran on Kids WB, which was part of "The WB" owned by Warner Brothers Television. Warner Brothers maintained ownerhsip of the Kids WB througout.

I have to agree with that, but even as you mentioned, I still thought it was in Tiny Toons. Yeah, solid DON'T.

Katie Kaboom could work, but is a bit more delicate.
Randy Beeman's Friend is a keeper.

Katie Kaboom worked, yeah, but only because they only did it like twice.  That bit could overstay its welcome really easily.

Minerva Mink is obviously out for the same reasons as Hello Nurse, plus the segments themselves weren't even all that funny at the time.

Looking back, for a show that was so good overall, it had a ton of lame material.  Everyone loved the Warners, Pinky & the Brain, and the relatively-quick interstitial bits like GI,BI, but the extended side-bits were really weak.  I guess part of the show's biggest strengths was the willingness to jettison bits that really didn't work (Hip Hippos, Mr. Skullhead Show, etc.) after one or two attempts to make room for the good parts.
