His version of the Joker bested only Jack Nicholson's version.  I was not a fan.

I'm sure everyone who cares about this will be sliding their unstanched taints on shag carpet in ecstatic glee. The rest of us will just have to embarrassed on their behalf.

Jerod Leto. Christ, man. Like Snyder isn't bad enough.

Jared Leto is an insta-skip as far as I'm concerned.

Because. F*CK HIM, that's why.

If understand correctly it's now slated as an HBO Max four-part event. This isn't a "cut" this a a full retcon of the original film. (A shiattier one if Leto is involved which goes without saying).
There's no way it isn't going to be a mangled mess of a clusterfark.

"Shooting is currently underway with Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher and Amber Heard among those involved, on top of Leto. It is unclear which other actors are included."

Well Amber Heard wouldn't have much effect, but Affleck's a pretty big guy. Hopefully the pile of actors on top of Leto makes it so hard to breathe that he gives up on doing his shiatty Joker and taps out.

/Snyder, as always, can go fark himself

I liked Margo Robbie in Suicide Squad, and more in Birds Of Prey, but the entire Snyderverse/DCU is just a shiatshow top to bottom, except for Shazam.

Listen, the only really bad thing about his Joker was the tattoos and grill.
I was fine with the "portrayal" but it's hard to believe THAT guy would sit for lengthy tattoos.
If they looked "homemade" or brands it would have made more sense.

But otherwise, I was totally fine with the characterization and laugh

Considering The ultimate cut of BvS was far better than the theatrical cut, and the monstrosity that was JL was largely because of Joss Whedon fault, this will be far better.

Suggests the Snyder cut's biggest change will be the way Superman come back.

What's weird is that apparently it was Whedon who changed it, from a story that works, and worked in Avengers, to a story that is different and doesn't. Maybe the studio ordered him to change it? No director on a movie like this has the power to ignore what the studio decides.

I think Leto could do a decent Joker. It reminds me of watching the Star Wars prequels with my wife who had never seen them and complaining about the actor that played Anikin in episode 2, only to be farking shocked he was still in the role when we started 3. Someone (you know who) picked him twice and paid him more money than most people will earn in their entire lives. Every day Lucas directed those performances, yelled cut, and put that out with his name on it. Give the job to a different director and it is hard to say it would have been that bad.

I am also on the Leto = worst Joker bandwagon.

However, this also means I could find appreciation in watching a fully buffed out Batfleck beating the shiat out of him on big screen, possibly even killing him (while screaming "Maaaartha!" at the same time of course).

Eg.

Ben Afleck did as good as a job as possible, given the absolute shiat scripts he was given to work with.

I hated Jeto's Joker as well, but it does personify the Snyder DC films; all edge, no substance

Maybe Whedon was like "I can't do that scene again the same way, I'll be accused of plagiarizing myself" and so he tries different beats, and it sucks as a result.  Whedon isn't perfect, he's a bit of a journeyman when it comes to filmmaking, it's always good but shy of great.  Better than Snyder, but that isn't saying much.

I don't know that it's really fair to blame Hayden Christensen though.  Lucas had Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, and Samuel Jackson to work with and didn't get shiat out of any of them.  Changing the actor wouldn't have done any good, because the problem was with the director.

The writing was also a huge problem. It wasn't just directing that blew. Lucas in particular claimed he has to wait years to do those movies because they needed the technological improvement.

There are 2 key problems there. Firstly, look what he did to the original trilogy in post in the years since they released in various re-releases. Secondly, it means Lucas thinks the point of the movies is to be summer special effects blockbusters, that it isn't about the story and the characters. That is traffic because sure people liked the graphics in the first 3 at the time and they pushed the envelope in a lot of ways, but that's not where the emotional resonance came from. Story and characters play the bigger part in our hearts. And both the story and the characters lack in the new 3 because Lucas approached them as children's stories with awesome graphics.

skyotter: All right I concede, it would be nice to see Ben Affleck beat the sh*t out of Jared Leto.

Sure, I don't mind seeing that... But there's a fundamental problem in that being in Justice League.

Find me any superhero movie that had multiple villain arcs that was worth half a shiat. Green Lantern, Spiderman 3, and others try, but they end up hollow and lacking story. They have no cohesion and progression in moving from villain to villain. You can't put Joker in Justice League unless you're creating the Injustice League, which means adding at least 4 other unintroduced villains and that would have no place in a story focused on Stepenwolf, an underling of Darkseid. As a series of movies with separate stories from the Darkseid plot, it would be a great plan.

Certainly doesn't bode well for Justice League that Leto will have anything to do with it.

I would posit that he is more hit-and-miss. "Watchmen" was amazing, especially the extended cut, "300" might not have been for everyone but it was exceptional filmmaking, and Wonder Woman was nearly perfect and hr wrote and produced that. I like more than that, but those films really stand out: give credit where it's due.

I think people want to believe that somehow, despite having like 1 correctly cast character in Wonder Woman, no backstory on most of the characters, bad writing, terrible studio direction, and lack of planning, that maybe there's something there to salvage.

Since DC can do animated movies, people have hope they should be able to do live action. But Zach Snyder had never been the guy to do that, and DC has failed time and time again.

Hope it's a hell of a drug.

Have the animation team write the script and storyboard it.

Get Kevin Smith to direct it faithfully to Dini's vision.

Hammil and Strong do the after credits scene as joker and harley watching the live action movie in a theater

Jason basically carried the whole thing (with Dafoe assisting). Cast ANYONE other than them and it would have landed on the trash pile.
