If I know the Senate Republican caucus, these allegations will not be investigated in any meaningful manner, and they will ultimately vote for Barrett's confirmation to the Supreme Court.

See, Keith Raniere would be walking free right right now if he'd just had the sense to classify his organization as a religion, not a self-help group.

Religious and cultural organizations that adhere to very strict hierarchies and teach unquestioning fealty to authority figures has really dark abusive shiat in its closet?

That hasn't happened before except literally every farking time it happens.

"Two people familiar with the matter say that more than two dozen former members of the faith group, many of whom say they felt "triggered" by Barrett's nomination, are participating in a support group to discuss how the faith group affected their lives. "

Trying so so very hard to make this group into a patriarchal cult ala Jim Jones, then you had to blow it by throwing in a little of your modern libspeak to tie it to the Barrett nomination.

Assumed.

There is a push in Canada to remove offensive names from public buildings. John A. Mac is the current hot hit. Treatment of the indigenous people is the catalyst behind removing the offensive names. I hope they're genuine in their argument and we can finally take the extremely offensive word Catholic off of every public school in Ontario.

Says more about you that a term you don't like is enough to "discredit" claims of sexual abuse.

Also, "triggering" is a legitimate term when dealing with actual trauma... like you get from sexual abuse.

I sat in one of those charismatic meetings in the 80's. When Bob the unassuming hardware store owner suddenly starts yelling in a language he obviously made up and starts shaking like in an epileptic fit, you realize, people be crazy.

My great uncle and aunt were lapsed Catholics who joined up with some crazy evangelical church like that. Speaking in tongues. Getting up and being "seized" by the Lord and screaming "PRAISE GOD!"
Great uncle battered his wife, and she looked just like ABC in her wide-eyed, fake smile face.
Great aunt stole her own parents' retirement money to spend on herself and my grandpa, who did not go crazy, only found out when my great-grandparents complained to him that the pharmacy wasn't taking their bank card.
They're bad farking news.

In the wake of the allegations, the Guardian has learned that the charismatic Christian organization, which is based in Indiana

Speaking as a former resident of Indiana, I'm more concerned now.  Indiana appears normal and boring, but it's undercover weird.  I don't trust any religious group from Indiana.  Jim Jones founded the Peoples' Temple in Indianapolis.

Oh yes, triggering is a legitimate term in psychology that has been borrowed by liberals to categorize any bad feeling that you get when you encounter something you don't like, whether it's related to trauma or not.  The use of the term in psychology, as related to trauma, is legit.

And if this story were true, these people fit the definition of people who had traumatic experiences that could lead to 'triggering' in the psychological sense.

I am questioning though, that Barrett coming to the fore now is the 'triggering' event that would cause these unnamed people to instantly form a support group.
Seems a little too convenient for the narrative.

Does anyone think that having a Stone Age holy book where child brides were common might be related to the problem? I'm going to say it definitely has some effect in why they turn a blind eye to molesters.

They do that with a lot of things.
"The poor will always be with you." is used as an excuse not to help them, because it doesn't do any good. Even worse is when that prosperity gospel shiat gets in there, and so God ordained them to be poor, making them even less deserving of help.

Though that phrase, or a near translation, is used twice in the Bible, as I recall.
In the OT, it sounds more like "There will always be people in need."
In the NT, I think it's Jesus being a dick and wanting an olive oil bath when someone suggests they donate the oil to the poor.
So maybe they aren't being total hypocrites here. Imagine that.
