I'm sure bar is just as deserving of a stimulus as any big company.

2020-10-21 9:10:32 AM
Incidentally does that mean that increasingly only millionaires can open or maintain a bar nowadays? Sounds like someone should get both the farking economy and the farking pandemic under control, right DM?

2020-10-21 9:12:39 AM
Devastating. Absolutely devastating. I don't think an actual blind pig was involved at all.

2020-10-21 9:52:56 AM
Well, I was all for voting Biden, but this really changes my mind!

2020-10-21 9:57:19 AM
Goddamnit I already voted for Biden. WHY GOD WHY!

2020-10-21 10:42:55 AM
So, owner of a struggling bar instead of struggling bar owner

Big story here, eh what? They must be chuffed as chimps, or whatever they say in Britoonica

*holding our side to a bare minimal account is bad because things*

2020-10-21 12:23:36 PM
That doesn't make the bar less struggling.

Do people know how businesses operate?

Let me know when the Biden gotcha moments get to, "BETRAYED THE FARKING COUNTRY HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE THE PRESIDENT OF TO RUSSIA AND CHINA FOR MONEY"

2020-10-21 12:26:43 PM
Well, he should just pay all of his employees out of his own pocket.  That's what smart businessmen do, right?

2020-10-21 12:27:17 PM

stuhayes2010: He can be rich and the business still struggle.

Hell, he could own 50 bars and 1 of them could be struggling due to covid.  I mean this is stupid

2020-10-21 12:28:06 PM
I guess this means Biden is going to Gitmo and Barrons snowglobe is president for life.

Accountable FOR WHAT?

2020-10-21 12:29:30 PM
That's the big Republican talking point against Dr Al Gross in Alaska.

Because if there's anything a Republican hates, it's millionaires.

Call the Guy: So, owner of a struggling bar instead of struggling bar owner

Owner of a struggling bar
Is much better than a
Struggling owner of a baaaaarrrr

2020-10-21 12:32:11 PM
If I remember the story correctly, dude owned the Blind Pig before his wife inherited big money. Bar has been outrageously successful, with a roster of who's who touring through there over the years. He may have a ton of cash now, but this asset, the bar/venue, is hurting - just like all live venues. They need support yesterday,

2020-10-21 12:33:57 PM
Get back to me when Biden tells 20,000+ lies.

2020-10-21 12:34:09 PM
Oh no, we now have our own Joe the Plumber, just way less racist.

I'm sure this will convince everyone in the entertainment and food service industry to vite Republican.

2020-10-21 12:34:50 PM
So he's a republican!

2020-10-21 12:35:10 PM
Someone let all the bar employees know that the owner will be alright.  I'm sure they are very concerned.

2020-10-21 12:36:03 PM
I don't really give a fark, but it's possible for a rich person to own an unprofitable business. Lots of rich people own unprofitable businesses, often ones run by their wives and/or children.

I guess I'm glad that all these attempts to smear Biden with someone else's shiat are so transparently weak and sad. Biden probably isn't, but (shrug).

I mean, none of them so far has the brilliant simplicity of "But her emails." Or "Lock her up."

2020-10-21 12:36:09 PM
The GOP is steamrolling towards becoming a new Nazi party, but yeah, this is important.

Its like having a scraped knee and a broken ankle, and wondering which one is worse.

BOTH SIDES ARE BOOGERS!

2020-10-21 12:37:20 PM
This is totally on par with the Foxconn scam.  BSAB, vote Bernie, #NeverDems!!!

Right, kind of like those struggling NFL teams on a tight budget.

If you're a lib, you must wear sackcloth and ashes.

2020-10-21 12:40:55 PM
This guy sounds like someone who invests his time and money into businesses in his local community.

https://www.crainsdetroit.com/awards/joe-malcoun-0

I fail to see how this is an issue.

2020-10-21 12:41:56 PM
Supporting the lockdowns doesn't mean that you can't call Trump out for mismanaging the entire pandemic. For one; Trump can't order lockdowns, State's Rights, and all that jazz. Second; The lockdowns weren't the problem, shiatty management from the top is the problem. The states had to wait forever for actual direction from our nation's leader, and then hf pushed everyone to reopen waaaay too early and waaaay to broadly, so the shiat is just continuing to get worse. If we'd had some national leadership, we'd probably be seeing bands playing at this bar again, with a smaller crowd and some form of social distancing. Instead, the shiat is too crazy to even entertain the possibility.

And all because we have a farking dummy running the country (into the ground).

Because apparently if you're a zillionaire you should never have to worry about owning a failing bar.

2020-10-21 12:42:22 PM
They should have found a poor bar owner whose bar is closed due to Trump*s mismanagement of the Carona Virus pandemic. Then it would be all hunky dory!

2020-10-21 12:43:20 PM
So he supported responsible lockdown measures while the President downplayed the virus and encouraged irresponsible behavior and bogus cures.  Truly a monster.

2020-10-21 12:44:00 PM
You need to have at least a third of a million positive net worth and $150k liquid to realistically qualify for a Subway or chain smoothie franchise, and at that you're taking out a whole big pile of 10-year SBA loans to get started.  Basically any bar or restaurant in a halfway successful area has to have a millionaire or two behind it.

2020-10-21 12:47:29 PM
John Smith complains about water damage to his home in the wake of a recent fire.

But his social media actually shows him spraying his burning house with a hose.

Obviously a hypocrite

2020-10-21 12:51:57 PM
Millionaire? With an 'M'? That's middle class.

2020-10-21 12:51:58 PM
So what... he's a tech millionaire (you've sort of got to be a millionaire to own a business now anyways... real estate alone is expensive, and it isn't like people work for free... and he owns a bar that isn't doing so well... but he still supported responsible lockdown measures, even when they hurt his own bottom line.

This doesn't seem like a scandal... or even a bad thing.

2020-10-21 12:55:59 PM
I only saw the ad once and the message I got from it was that the mishandling of COVID destroyed the live music industry...  It wasn't just about the bar, but the musicians and the fans.

I miss live music way too much, so maybe I am reading more into this...  But, I did get to see Fitz and the Tantrums last week.

YES, this post is underappreciated.

2020-10-21 12:57:34 PM
So Trump puts up ads with Russian stock footage purporting to be American and Biden puts up ads with rich millionaires pretending to be working class.

Could there be any better symbolism for the state of the two political parties in modern America?

2020-10-21 1:00:41 PM
The Daily Fail. I used to go there for the laughs and eyerolls, and TBH they do have some great pictures I could scrape..though I felt dirty every time I did.

But I don't even click anymore, the ads and pop ups make it just awful in a physical sense, not just the usual moral sense.

2020-10-21 1:01:27 PM

stuhayes2010: He can be rich and the business still struggle.

This.

Just because he's rich from another enterprise altogether doesn't mean he has no right to complain that his bar business is failing.

2020-10-21 1:04:48 PM

phoenix352: Someone let all the bar employees know that the owner will be alright.  I'm sure they are very concerned.

I've been told by very prominent Republican economists that the employees are secure in their job because their employer still has plenty of money, and that's what really creates jobs, rich people with money.

It's not like their employment is tied to their utility in making the rich guy more money, which is contingent on demand for their service.

2020-10-21 1:11:28 PM
Even without the underlying message (mishandling of covid), the hypocrisy of them complaining about this after Joe the Plumber is amazing.

2020-10-21 1:14:55 PM
This is why I'm voting for Trump.  Only broke people support him!

2020-10-21 1:15:36 PM
I don't know a the rules and such. I just figured everyone in a political ad was just a paid actor.

Thankfully, it's looking pretty good that that particular Struggling owner will be voted out in November.

Same with GOP representatives/office-holders.

2020-10-21 1:18:23 PM
Having read up on him I'm not sure the part that is supposed to make him fake.

He inherited his money and rather than stashing it away he invested it by investing in people that would help build the economy of Ann Arbor.

Fast forward his incubator space is doing well enough that he pulled together an investment group to buy and renovate the Blind Pig venue.

It sounds like the story he told; the handling of the pandemic is threatening that particular business. Considering his primary company is a co-work environment, which also likely took a huge hit as well.

2020-10-21 1:18:36 PM
I saw this ad run on tv a few days ago. My first thought was "huh, a Biden ad in Maryland.  I guess that's my one for the week". My second thought was " this guy seems pretty proud of his bar and seems genuinely concerned about its future " it was not "this guy sure is crying about how poor he is, I sure hope he isn't a secret millionaire "
