(Fark)   TFer wants to hire a minor celebrity to do a bit of voiceover (no more than 15 minutes) for something. Budget should not be an issue, however hidden costs. Anyone done this before? Give advice and/or talk me out of it here   (fark.com) divider line

I'll do it for free.

I'm a voice over artist.
Not famous

Even a minor celebrity would run you 5k, a D lister.

If you know who you want, contact their agent first. They will give you general information.

I'm a game developer. Even a good, unknown voice over artist is going to cost decent money.

I was paid about 2800 for doing work on a BBC documentary.  And that was 8ish minutes total run time.

From beginning to end?  With editing, having to re-record a section to do changing script, then re-recording another part due to a mispronunciation (which they didn't tell me about the first time).....

90 minutes?

My voice was used on an small college website for a few years. My friend was the web developer, so he just asked me to read the script a few times and he chose the file to use. He sent me two large bottles of Bombay for my five minutes of work. Now I see I could have charged real money!

What type of voice over work?

Movies / television are significantly more expensive than an internal company training video.

What's your definition of celebrity?

How about Antonio Banderas? He was in this:

Someone recently posted in the wrong thread that they got Christopher Lloyd for something.

My kids love Cyberchase, and it cracks me up that it has both Gilbert Gottfried as a robotic bird and Christopher Lloyd as the main bad guy.

Who makes a documentary on BBCs? Do they call it a documentary because they following one guy around?

If you want a celebrity for the name, then that's the route to go. If you want a good voice that can act and save you some dough, head to the theater department of the local college. You might be able to find someone there.

Also, this guy is awesome and has a great voice.

Are you bringing them into your studio/facility?  If not, you may want to scout it where you want the VO recorded so the agent can marry that against their travel schedule (which may be more irrelevant in a COVID year).

Over the years, we had Charles Kuralt, Patrick Stewart, John DeLancie, etc. do some VO for films; Kuralt recorded at the CBS studios in NYC because it was convenient.  For others, we had their agents pin down the cities they would be filming in or traveling to in order to find a studio.  Some folks had an ISDN connection and could do it remotely too.

How about Ted Williams, the now formerly homeless guy with the golden voice. Working in radio in Columbus, Ohio now. He'd probably appreciate the gig.

As someone who deals with this on the regular...it GREATLY depends on who you are after.

Get the contact info, make the ask.

Solution - use one of these already-available celeb contact websites.
They have Alissa Milano, Tom Arnold etc. do real phone calls to you:
