Well, it it a metaphor for the brutal gaining of ground with disregard for the safety of others?
Does it represent a culture of sexism, bullying, crowding, racism, and overall contribute to funding organized crime? Is it sponsored by purveyors of alcoholic beverages and pickup trucks?
or is it sponsored by the arts and humanities? Are people who want a forward change to better the nation sponsoring it? Or is it the united states of war?

Hmm.
HMMMMM.

I'm going to need more data.

Every time you watch the NFL, you encourage the spread of COVID-19.

Don't encourage the spread of COVID-19.

Don't watch the NFL.

I pay little attention to football most years, maybe the last ten or so, because of a variety of reasons.

I continue to have issues with CTE, and this year add on COVID.

I don't enjoy the knowledge that people are getting sick or dying for my entertainment.

I guess it's a given then that I'm a Dem.

I think you could make the case for COVID schedule farkage driving fans away. The only reason conservatives would leave in greater numbers is their ire over all this fake shuffling over a fake virus.

Ratings for all sports are down.  That includes college football, the sport right wingers love the most.

2020-10-19 11:41:11 AM
There are fewer people willing to admit to being Republicans perhaps, and those are more likely to not like the teams kneeling?

2020-10-19 11:41:33 AM
Yeah, this season is a clusterfark and the owners were so myopic they failed to add a second BYE week to the schedule.  But Mrs Samurai and I are excited we get Tuesday night games and a Monday game that will be over before we fall asleep.

Ow! That was my feelings!: Ratings for all sports are down.  That includes college football, the sport right wingers love the most.

Came here to say this.  This is a decade long trend.  No sport has seen a bigger fall than NASCAR.

Marcus Aurelius: Every time you watch the NFL, you encourage the spread of COVID-19.

This.

Fark the NFL.

When you're forced to sell your TV to buy your next gun it's the NFL that pays the price.

2020-10-19 11:43:40 AM
In the time of covid with few theatres open and a lot of people with nothing to do it is no surprise viewership of live sports is up.

Which makes Biden's big ad buys during those games a good move.

I wonder if Trump will do one specifically claiming to have "brought back football" singlehandedly or if that will be in all of them.

2020-10-19 11:43:45 AM
I haven't watched since they ran Colin Kaepernick out.

I mean, I had really stopped watched even before that, because I'd rather play video games than watch football.  But Colin Kaepernick makes for a good excuse.

2020-10-19 11:44:59 AM
Not this Democrat...I love football, but with the way the NFL owners are abusing the shiat out of their players I'm out until they fix their own house.

2020-10-19 11:46:09 AM
I thought all the triggered "Back the Blue" conservatives were still boycotting the NFL because BLM and Kaepernick.

I tried but I live in NY and I'm already depressed enough.

Democrat, watching the NFL.

I get it, it could spread COVID-19. Risk vs. reward.

With all due respect, who gives a flying fark into a rolling doughnut?

I've got far bigger and scarier shiat with which to deal to spend time worrying about whether the "Authoritarian's Favorite Sport" has a goddamned audience, never mind worrying about the demographics of said audience.

I'd much rather ask "who's watching the service industry collapse?"

My neighbor plans to "boycott"  the NFL on November 8th and 15th. Meanwhile I plan to hang my big new Bronco flag out.

Well, of course.  I mean, the "light at the end of the tunnel" is New Jersey.

I'm actually not watching the NFL either, even though I'm trying to win a Fantasy league with a $1500 payout.  I do things on my Sunday and just get the updates.

There are a lot of bad teams this year too.  I don't know how Jets fans can even look at that team.

Yeah, they should boycott MLB in November.

Because, and I hate to break this to you,   this is being used as a distraction, where the goal is "see? We can have live sports in the midst of this "pandemic."

And I seriously believe they would put quotes around the word.

Never mind that cases are going through the roof.

2020-10-19 11:52:19 AM
All sports have declining viewership this year aside from the WNBA. Weird

Of course the NBA decline is because people are tired of BLM

NfL decline  is because people are sick of pink breast cancer awareness and women talking.

MLB decline  is because people are sick of Nancy Pelosi and her nasty partisan politics.

That fits the data described by TFA.

Marcus Aurelius: Every time you watch the NFL, you encourage the spread of COVID-19.
Don't encourage the spread of COVID-19.
Don't watch the NFL.

The data in TFA seem to suggest that the Democrats aren't buying that argument.

Sounds like you need to pick up a high school history book and learn about a little something called the WARRIOR'S CODE.

In all seriousness, who has time to watch sports when there is very important Q research to do?

As a Vikings fan I purposely did not watch the game this weekend.  I made the right choice and my liver thanked me.

Libby lib Democrat here.  I don't buy the argument that we need to shut down the entire country and stop living.

I don't think large, crowded gatherings should be a thing right now, but the way sports are being handled right now is fine.  Lower capacity, socially distanced crowds with masks on is fine.  If you're in a high risk category, it's up to you to take care of yourself.

2020-10-19 11:57:47 AM
If you're offended by signs in the endzone saying "end racism" to the point that you'll quit watching something you love, I'll go with the theory that perhaps you're the problem, not the NFL.

It's strange the NASCAR isn't affected by COVID, given that most fans are God-fearing Republicans.

My Qanon believing brother now can't watch the NFL, Hollywood movies, mainstream news or television of any kind, has one blood relative that will talk to him. Cults are bad news friends.

Days like today I tell Sean in NE Ohio that I had the Browns and 32.

I worry though that if I tell Tom from Wisconsin that I had the Pack and 29, he might throttle me.

NB: It ain't the NFL, and I don't know any Georgia Tech fans, but if I did, you know I would have covered the spread.

You can attribute this to partisan politics, but the fact of the matter is that these sports cannot hold a candle to the best sport on planet Earth, a sport called Dota 2.

Dota 2 is kind of like Lord of the Rings, but if you turned it into a team sport, featuring fearsome champions such as "Not the Blademaster From Warcraft III" and "Also Not a Warcraft III Character, We Swear".  The goal is to "farm" the "lane" so that you can "push" the "Ancient" and then "uninstall" the "game".

There's some pretty heavy debates as to what athletic skills the game actually requires, but the general agreement on the Dota 2 messageboards is that Dota 2 is more athletic than pretty much every other sport combined, it's kind of like chess, but if you had to think ahead more than one move.

I'll even sell the game to the Politics Tab by claiming that it is a time-honored tradition that one refuses to take responsibility and seek self-improvement on the path to improving your personal circumstance, and instead blame those you imagine are responsible for your failures, which should fit in just fine around these parts.

So I bring this all up because the decline in ratings is a direct response to this game, there's even some agreement on the Dota 2 messageboard that as reality slowly breaks down and descends into a simulated state, that digital simulations (videogames) stand a serious chance to usurp the role of reality entirely.

This is the reason that I am working so hard to play this crappy clicker game which is either a real-time strategy game where you control a single unit, for some reason, or a multiplayer Diablo game played with a real-time strategy interface, for some reason.  When real-life becomes Dota 2 and vice versa, I'm gonna be at the top.

While all your crappy physical sports die off, I'm going to learning the skills required to be successful in the future, a world where hopeful parents are teaching their kids how to acquire the correct items for Pugna and then successfully use him in the appropriate teamfights, and earning dota cum laude from the prestigious Dota University.

Some may suggest this post is more interesting than Defense of the Ancients has ever been, but given that I wrote it, I am not so sure.

As a Browns fan, before Sunday I felt a smidge of this thing I haven't felt in a long, long time.  My wife said it was "hope".

Its gone today.

Get over yourself. I'm a Dem too but I'm also smart enough to know that no one is getting CTE, COVID or dying because they care about entertaining me.

The idea that these poor, poor players are being forced to play by evil owners and fans is the dumbest take in sports. The players play because they like the money too. It's not because of some selfless sacrifice to help billionaire owners, a sense of responsibility to entertain you, or even because they have to.

They can go be an accountant or something. No one can stop them. They choose to play football.
But I'm sure they're thinking about how much they appreciate you being outraged on their behalf when that million dollar game check hits their account every week.

Also - the minimal crowds make it less fun to watch.

I'm not advocating bringing back crowds, but it does impact the fun to be had watching the game.
Also I'm an Eagles fan so I'd like to see them bring back an offensive line.

...it's not a bad idea, to be honest. I'll be finishing up a quilt over the winter, and I'm dealing with clothing maintenance this week - hemming pants, repairing seams, adding patches, that sort of thing. A bit of knitting or crochet isn't typically wasted.
