There's not going to be any stimulus money. Outgoing Republicans will want to screw over Biden as much as possible.

That's the joke.

Average Christmas shopping spending will be massively down this year. Way too many unemployed and only a percentage are still on skimpy state UI benefits. The economy will crater come January.

The people who do have jobs are mainly spending money on things like food and shelter. Pretty much any left over is being saved because we got the "you're on your own" message loud and clear.

I think there will be a deal because if they don't make one, the Dems will make one without them in February.  Plus with many outgoing congressmen, things will get done.  Once they lose reelection, a congresscritter becomes a single issue voter: whatever firm they're headed to work for will have one big issue that matters to them.  Everything else is unimportant and can be given away so long as you get priority number one taken care of.

Congratulations, you've cracked the code on how long assistance will take.

I'll bet Goodwill and Salvation Army stores have a banner year.

That isn't good

I've been stocking up on canned goods, dry ingredients, home photo developing supplies, and books. I should probably get a couple more fuel canisters for the camping stove if there's a sale. It's going to be a long, hard winter.

If retailers were smart, they'd do black friday deals that REQUIRE curbside pickup. Run a basic PR campaign about how much you care and you're putting people's health over profits. Hell, have some goober in upper management make that public statement - "we might not make a ton of money this year, but we're doing things right. That's more important" and quietly use the upcoming loss to shift around income or clear out some unearned gains for the big shareholders.

Your stock might get hurt in the short term but you get to look like a prophet when EVERYONE EXCEPT AMAZON is bleeding money.

Home photo developing supplies? Are you predicting a post internet future where we have to handcraft porn again?

Or...are you in to something the internet doesn't supply? If so, I bow to you. I've seen the weirdness. Ventriloquist furry puppet porn is the most niche I have found so far.

We are going to see a lot more retail bankruptcies or mass closures around January if not sooner, that's for sure. Many are hanging on by a thread at this point.

That all depends.  If people have no money to spend, they won't be spending it at Amazon just as much as they won't be spending it at Macy's.  And with (presumably) reduced holiday family gatherings, probably a lot less gift-buying even for people who can still afford it.

Amazon will certainly do better than the brick-and-mortar stores, but that was already likely before the pandemic.  The only difference will be the magnitude of the market-share difference between the two.  It doesn't guarantee that Amazon's actual sales match their expectations.

This is what happens when huge corporations can buy politicians.  The Leopards Eating People's Faces party eats people's faces.  And in the famous words of Mittens Romnicus "corporations are people too".  Anyone surprised that the party of "fark literally everyone but the 1%" has now farked literally everyone but the 1% needs their goddamn head examined.

Black and white makes it classy.
