Consider this, North Dakota would have a vastly higher population if people weren't constantly moving the fark out to get an education.

That goober probably got his facts from a re:re:re:email and to him. Hopefully he sucks on his masks to get those delicious viruses that are apparently able to walk through the recommended 2 layers of cloth of a good face mask. LOL

Its more like they stay to get their education and then bolt, though Fargo has a very high percentage of the population that is college educated.  Its how they lured a couple of firms like Microsoft there in the past two decades.  A lot of that all has to do with a lack of opportunity, so residents move to Fargo (or maybe GF or Bismarck) or out of state.

----

For anyone curious about whether this guy is correct, or who wants to know the rebuttal...

Yes, masks do stop the coronavirus even though the virus itself is smaller than a mask can filter.  This is because the virus is carried on moisture droplets which are much larger and are almost all stopped by a mask.

You can see this effect at work if you or someone else wears a mask and their glasses keep fogging up.

If you don't believe me, here is a collection of 70 papers that show masks work:

https://twitter.com/Thesciencevort1/status/1281298171390550017?s=20

And just for fun.... 'well how come I can still smell a fart while wearing a mask?  That proves they don't work!'

Wrong.

The smell in a fart is made by H2S which is 0.5 nanometers in size.  Covid is approx 100 nanometers, about 200 times larger and is carried by a moisture droplet about 5-15 micrometers in size, or about another 50 times larger than COVID and 1000 times larger than your fart.

Interesting read, and growing up in a rural region myself I agree with a lot of it.  The one thing I might disagree with her on is the idea that conservative anti-LGBT has its basis in wealth accumulation.  While they certainly do use marriages to advance social standing and children to grow wealth over generations, I have a hard time believing the main reason elite dislike LGTB is the loss of their wealth as much as it is a straightforward gay = 'ick' outlook (plus the religious aspect).

No no no. One time, before masks, a surgeon laid down to rest on an open table and got his appendix removed.  It wasn't so much the pain or that it was needless surgery but he had a massive out of pocket expense.  So any one who wears a mask in the operating room is a person the the surgeon doesn't operate on.

This is the shiat I was talking about in the covid fatigue thread. They are loud and overwhelming around here.

Part of the issue is that there are two or three people that own all the commercial real estate, apartments, and land, and they're all MAGA chuds. While they have more money than god, they are probably taking it in the shorts, so they push their bullshiat out, hard. "Open 'er up!"

Then you have the people who can't live without getting tanked, or watching precious college hockey/football (often both at the same time), so they're losing their shiat, too. It's unfortunate that so many people invest their entire identities in such few pursuits.

They often do.

However, there was a spate from 2003 to 2012 or so in which they pressed hard to stop the brain drain, and it actually sort of worked. The Great Recession actually helped, because this area thrived during it (thanks in large part to high oil prices). But those heydays are long gone and most of the people who were enticed to stick around are now leaders who have to deal with the normal bullshiat, on top of covid and the havoc the covidiots are wreaking, and are getting burnt out as fark.

Its why Grand Forks had bars closing early (10pm?) that lasted like 5 minutes until they realized the soaks just went across the river to drink in Minnesota AND the richie riches who own everything complained about the lost revenue.

Oh for fark's sake. Completely. With all the blacked-out pickups, this town looks like it got taken over by the militia. And that's on purpose. It was reasonable 10 years ago because oil prices precluded driving gas-guzzlers.

Though I'm looking to get a pickup/travel trailer or a class C RV because I want to start GTFO of here when I can.

I identified early-on that part of the problem is the covid statistics and subsequent state laws and local ordinances are applied unequally in border towns. I wager this has been a big part of the problem.

Yup! I graduated from NDSU in Fargo in 2006 and stayed until 2014, when the Mr. and I could no longer put up with the oil boom bullshiat. So glad we're not there for COVID. My blood boils every time I talk to my parents and they're going about life as usual. Mom is even flying to Arizona for a weekend trip in a few days. Only one lady she knows from church has died, so, you know.

Here in Maine, people are getting upset that our number of new daily infections has jumped from ~15-20/day to ~40-50/day. Which is worrisome, but not nearly as stupid as the ~600/day being diagnosed in ND.
