My wife hates it that I say it as Strictly Cum-Dancing.  I'm pretty much forbidden to mention the show on pain of never cum-dancing again.

They were going to go with "The Double-Dutch Danced Over Synchronized Ropes of Ejaculate Power Hour" but the title sequence company charged by the lettter.

I still don't understand the name for the UK version of the show.  "Strictly Come Dancing."  Doesn't make sense to me.  It's like saying "Seriously Go Skating" or "Precisely Come Marching."  What am I not getting?

It's a revamped version of Come Dancing, which ran from 1949-1998. "Strictly" is a reference to Strictly Ballroom.

Typical real world answer, prosaic as hell.  Quick, someone call Mike to get us a more fun origin story together.

Not exactly. Come Dancing was about people who could dance doing competition dancing. This is about celebs doing a dance thing.

I absolutely despise it, but I despise anything "celebrity". Give me some real entertainment with professionals.

/Mostly think that  " extreme marketing" went with candies, sodas, and toys. Yet, that is not true. During the years of 1994 -1998  dancers could expand their repertoire and use more bodily fluids than just ejaculate.
/ Ratings went  through the roof up until the rumor of a couple was going to literally put blood on the dance floor. Late 98 producers pulled the plug. 1999 it went back to the classic yet, with a new title "Strictly Come Dancing". Though it was lowered a bit in ratings, the whole family can yet again sit and watch a wholesome show of dancers  snow ball, bukkake and be drowned in come.

This could be problematic. I want to see what happens the first time a male judge says: "Alright ladies, show me your cha cha"

because when I think of strictly heterosexual I think of a dancing show

Shhhh. Here's a little secret. It never was strictly heterosexual. Only an idiot would think that all the performers were straight.

It's the nice kind of not strictly heterosexual.

"Strictly heterosexual" means if you're a man and you don't eat your wife's pussy by 8pm, she gives you a good spanking.

This is absolutely no surprise to Sabrina who dances socially. Social dances are rarely balanced with leads and follows almost requiring that women dance with women (and sometimes men with men). Has nothing to do with sexuality. Good dancers can both lead and follow.

All I know about Strictly is that Claudia Winkleman is one of the hosts presenters and all I know about her is I love watching her laugh on whatever episodes of 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown or Would I Lie to You end up on youtube.

For our US readers, this is the show of which "Dancing With the Stars" is the US version.

Probably the most awkward TV show title of all time. What does it even mean?

Gooch: Probably the most awkward TV show title of all time. What does it even mean?

It is from smashing two previous shows titles together.  Come Dancing was a show on the BBC for decades.  In that case, it meant "to show up for dancing".  Strictly Ballroom was a film about ballroom dancing.  Slapping the two titles together make sit awkward, but it essentially means "Show up to perform ballroom dances".  I managed to gather that the first time I ever heard of it.  I also saw the amazing single entendre right sprang in the middle of it.
